Congrats to UWW and Linfield:

The keys to success are:

How good is Linfield's D, can they stop a balanced attack
How good is Linfield's O-line
Will UWW blitz often or drop 7 or 8 for passing situations
Who wins the Special Teams battle and field position
Who wins the turnover game

Who really know?  blah blah blah.  we could go on and on and that's why football is so great.  There are so many fine lines in this game that any little thing can sway the momentum and turn the tables in any direction.

But really, if anyone has the answers to my questions, please tell me.

The Realist

One more note:

Yes, whoever said it, UWW will have to play an 'amazing' 4 quarters, but so will Linfield.  When the game is in this stage of the year though, with this much on the line, and the teams are this good, I would expect nothing else than supurb play.  Just like in almost any single football game, the game will be decided on      4 to 6 big plays that will swing the tide in one team's favor.

And just in case UWW is a supposed huge underdog in this game, well, that's why we play em'.  Otherwise teams like the Rams, the Colts, and the Oklahoma Sooners would not have lost to the likes of the Patriots, Jets, and LSU Tigers (as well as the K-State Wildcats)

That's enough stupid history from me.

Realist...

I don't have the answer to all of your questions but I have the answer to one of them and a maybe on another...

If UWW is going to drop the backers and can't generate pressure with their down lineman, they are going to get picked apart, that, I can almost assure you.  I don't care who you have playing LB and DB, unless it's Ray Lewis and Deion Sanders back there, they will not be able to cover all day long.  If you do bring the heat with the backers they had better get there or it will get ugly.

Field position...Linfield has a good kickoff coverage team and their kicker puts it 5 yards deep almost every time...

The rest of your questions...I don't know.  I'd like to think the Defense and O-line will answer the bell like they have all season, but then again we haven't played anybody this good yet.  You hit the nail on the head, that's why this weekend will be great, we'll have all the answers at about 3:00 PM Saturday!

The Realist

Very true:

We will know and can speculate on Saturday.  Well, as simple as it may sound, I think the game will probably be won and lost then, on the shoulders of the front four of the D-lines on either side of the ball.  If they (both for UWW and Linfield) can generate a disruptive pass rush as well as occupy blockers and allow the LB's to make plays on the run, then that team will win.

Alright, I think I'm out for the night.  sweet dreams my d3 football lovers.
(sorry if that seemed a little gay) haha

Hey Cheeseheads! I was away for a couple of days and was just checking in on the posts since the impressive Warhawks victory on Saturday. Congratulations on your win and good luck the rest of the way. From what I've seen and read, you have the talent to beat anybody. Just feel sorry you had to go and beat my favorite team in red.
Again, congratulations and good luck. Hopefully we'll meet again next year.

I would agree, the offensive and defensive lines are going to be HUGE...they could make everybody else much less of a factor...

Eagle Cynic

LAX last year couldn't get to the QB...so we dropped 8, that's where the qb's arm beat us.  You can only drop eight if you think that your 3 will get to the qb within a couple seconds.  Schockmel called a great game, mixing up all sorts of d-line stunts, blitzes and coverages but they called a better game against it.

They are a great team and a lot will be based on the coaching on the day.  I think player to player they are evenly matched (not by positions but by best player vs best player, if that makes sense).  I think all the players will even out and the coaching will win or lose this one.  No random occurrences of fate, just tough football.  Which coach will dictate the goings on on saturday? Lets hope its Brez and birds!

Eagle Cynic,
I am hopeful on the coaching match-up because remember, we were supposed to get out-coached against SJU.  And so much for "Play-off jitters!" ;D

Regarding the need for UWW's defense to be amazing and special teams to be great, I think we can do that.  In fact, I saw that last weekend against SJU!  I believe Kiltedrat described it best referring to the Hawks defense as hard, hitting, aggressive and relentless.  Well, he didn't say amazing, I guess.............and our offense isn't too shabby either!!
Anyway, I am impressed with the civility of most of the Linfield postings so far.   I guess soundly beating a powerhouse football progam and their legendary coach will get you some respect and notice.  Those of us that have watched this team blossom throughout the year knew that they deserved it weeks ago!  Anyway, can't wait to get to the outcome, whatever that may be.  Both teams have had fantastic seasons and deserve all our gratitude and appreciation.  Nothing that happens on Saturday should diminish that for either team.!!  Just wish it was in the Stagg Bowl where the #1 and #2 should be meeting.  The winner would be the National Champ and the loser would be the Runner-Up to the  National Champ, not just a Quarter Finalist!

Wildcat'64

FB 413,
I would agree with your post and truly feel this should be the Stagg Bowl rather than a Quarterfinal matchup.

Which should indicate that the score will be close (probably + or - 7 points).

Who wins, no one knows!  Probably will come down to who plays their best game on this particular Saturday.  With the quality of these two programs, I sincerely doubt it will be a blow out in either direction.

Five more days 'till the Western Stagg Bowl takes place!
LEAVE NO DOUBT

ff413...

Respect is given when respect is due...the Linfield posters get a little crazy when it's nothing but sucka punks coming to Maxwell Field.  It will be anything but civil on the field at the Catdome come Saturday!  THIS will be a good game!

It's the luck of the Finer.  Linefield won't be able to match the physical play of the WARHAWKS.  Beaver will run all over them.  Let the zone roll!!!

Heard it all before my man, heard it the most  ( smash mouth crap) from Rowan and LAX last year and you know what happened to them. Oh and the undefeated Defending National Champs name is Linfield, check your spelling.

Trust me, Gig Harbor Cat,
Don't know anything about Rowan but this team has it all over the LAX team you faced last year!!  I believe Eagle Cynic will agree with me on that point! And they are a lethal combination of "Smash-Mouth," and SPEED!  You seem to be one of the few Linfield (note the spelling) posters that want to continue to underestimate the Hawks.  There were alot of SJU posters that did the same thing!!! ;) ;)

Superior coaching ALWAYS gets the nod.  I'm pretty sure that the Cats will have a couple of new look options to show your boys on Sat.    If all else fails we can break out the Fly set on em !!! Or even run beef in the red zone.  The one AD-vantage for the Cats, is that they have been to the dance last year and brought home the iron.  If it is a tight game, like the 04 Stagg, don't expect them to even blink.  Just like last week, they rallied around their leader (the Butcher) for the W.

See you all at the Catdome

You just don't get it.  I think I said that this game should be played on the 17th !!!  It should be a great game.  What gets me each year is all we hear is smash mouth this and that, blah blah and more blah.  I respect your team, its just some of the uneducated posters that crack me up.

"New look options to show us?"   Wish our coaches would think of something like that!! ;)

And  I know what you mean about the uneducated posters.  Actually, it is the arrogant ones that bug me!

Gig Harbor Cat

I agree,  there is a difference between confidence and arrogance.  Actually your guys are getting huge respect compared to our regular season opponents.  Consider yourself lucky.  We normally start in on Monday, with you we will wait and break out the good material late in the week.  Now that is respect !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
