I'll apologize for my previous flippant posts, and explain a little of my reason for having a bit of a short fuse on that subject.

First "voice", Who have you been talking to? There has been speculation about JG's eventual departure, and who will succeed him, but I don't know of too many who are looking forward to that event.

Second, I would ask all of you to contemplate for a while the recruiting job Gagliardi does at St John's. His recruiting pool is much smaller than that of UWW, for example. It is an expensive, private, Catholic college, that is pretty much out in the middle of nowhere.  There are any number of D II schools in Minnesota and the Dakotas that can also attract premier athletes with scholarships. Most of the other competing MIAC schools have the lure of a large city environment, or proximity to a large city. There are, I would maintain, not too many young high schoolers who will be drawn to the SJU environment. Many who visit, do see the attraction, but I'm sure there are quite a number who dismiss it from their lists without even visiting. I know there is one player on the UWW roster, David Leaf, who would have been a prime candidate to go to SJU. I went to high school with a number of his relatives. Whitewater and Collegeville are about equidistant from his home town. A couple of his contemporaries go to SJU. It would be interesting to know why he chose UWW over St John's, but I would guess it would be a combination of the above reasons.

Look at the SJU roster and see how many are from fairly close to the campus. Taking all that into consideration, I would say he gets a lot out of what he has.

My guess is there are some who feel like it's time for John to call it quits, but the majority would be loyal to him.  Those looking forward to a change are possibly people who had been spoiled by JG's success! As long as his health holds out, I'm sure it will be JG's decision when to go and I think most would agree that is only right.

Just like Joe Paterno.  The howls were very loud a few years ago when they had a couple of 'awful' years.  Not so much lately as they are again in or near the top 10 annually.

A legend deserves the right to retire on his own terms.

(Bobby Bowdoin might be an exception, since there is also the issue of scandals, and they've also named his successor, who probably won't wait forever.)

Kind of like LK's departure from Mount Union--his choice, but he's still comparatively young.  Let's see, it was Augie and ??? in the seventies-- then, for a while, UWLaX and MUC.  Then MUC and Rowan.  Then MUC and St John's. And now MUC and UWW--anybody else see something that has been fairly constant since about 1996 or so??

Yes, MUC fans constant need to always pull it out and have a measuring contest.  We get it...MUC has been good for a long time.  Congrats.

Actually, Augie's reign was early 80s, but I otherwise agree.

(I always get confused on their 'dynasty' years, since the greatest QB ever to emerge from d3 (if it weren't for the fact that d3 didn't yet exist ;)) was Augie's Ken Anderson, NFL MVP in 1981 - his college years were late 60s).

Any takers that Schebler kicks in the NFL next year. What a career especially considering some of the weather he has kicked in.

Not sure his leg is NFL-strong...nice to get a shot, though.

Bobo do they have kimchee turkey in your neck of the woods ?

Sorry, there are 100's of kimchi varieties, but thankfully, none with turkeys...

My opinion on the J's?  Nobody asked, but I'm glad it's their problem and not ours!!
If I read between retagent's lines, it doesn't matter if/when they change coaches, the post-season swoons will continue  ;).  But, really, I don't care because we play this week and that's what Warhawk followers should be spending our time thinking about...getting past the Titans and moving to the next round.  ;D

Okay, WW fans, I have tried to get a bet on WW over IWU from a buddy of mine, an Augustana graduate. His son played on IWU's D3 basketball championship team a few years ago. But he says IWU isn't going to come close. I gave him three td's and he's looking for  more. I don't think he'll settle for less than 5 td's. The bet is only a 12 pack, and he's already going to lose a 12 pack to me because he's betting on the Bears to beat the Vikings Sunday.

Gimme some score predictions and I'll see how much I can give him.

fred, if the bet is only a 12 pack then give him 10 TD's and tell him the payoff is at your house, and he should bring the nacho's.  ;)

Coming from a Bears fan...I would predict a similar outcome between the two games, with the purple teams winning  ;). I can't believe your friend is asking points for the UWW game but not the Bears, but enough about the NFL.... I would check out the Pick-Ems boards. The OAC is spotting UWW 27.5 points in its league, and the majority are still taking UWW giving the points. The MIAC Pick-ems board will probably release it's line within the next day or two.

So spotting three TDs isn't too far off. Remind your friend that this IWU team is ranked fourth in the country in total defense; It's a team that beat both Wheaton college and NCC to win it's conference. This isn't a team to be taken lighty. However, the Titans haven't seen an offense or a defense like their about to witness saturday. I gaurantee it won't be a 70-7 route like last saturday, IWU is 10x better than a 6-5 LC team.

If I may, I recommend a 12 pack of 312 as your reward.... :P

Augie fans are veterans of 'casbah haggling' - he's gonna get whatever he can get! :D

As a Titan, I'd take you on at 3 TDs. ;D

I'm a realist and expect you guys will probably win, but I think many are gonna be surprised at the final margin.  I'll be shocked if it is anywhere near your anticipated blowout.  (And I guarantee that the Titans will not come in as a team that has already lost before the coin toss; there will be respect, but no fear.)

BoBo - I expect better from you >:(

What I WAS trying to say, is that depite long odds, John does better than anyone should be able to do. I think that any talk of the game passing him by, or his time being over, is not a realistic approach. St John's football has been good for a long long time, and will probably be a Top Ten program for the forseeable future. They may even win the occasional National Championship. I think that  about 215 other D III schools would love to have that to look at.

As an added thought, SJU Football is more a manifestation of the pride we Johnnies have for our school, and not the primary REASON.
