Bit of a surprise.  Thought maybe Donovan would get a nod.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

In looking at Illinois Wesleyan statistically, general conclusions and comparisons from the numbers. I included UWW's numbers as a point of reference for UWW fans.

A very balanced offense:
(54.4% run,  45.6% pass)
(UWW is 62.2% run, 37.8% pass)

173.3 ypg rushing
255.7 ypg passing
(UWW is 245.9 Ypg rushing,  254.7 ypg passing)

A team that likes to control the ball:
33:09 to 26:34 (TOP advantage per game)
(UWW has 32:34 to 29:29 edge per game per UWW website. No idea why it would add up to over 60:00 minutes)

A very good turnover ratio:
+10  (24 takeaways, 14 turnovers)
(UWW +11.  21 takeaways, 10 turnovers)

Good pressure on the QB:
26 sacks
(UWW 19 sacks)

Advantage UWW in the red-zone:
IWU scores 63% of the time in the red-zone.
IWU scores TD 57% of the time in the red-zone.
IWU gives up a score 65% of the time in the red zone.
IWU gives up a TD 48% of the time in the red zone.

UWW scores 89% of the time in the red zone.
UWW scores TD 77% of the time in the red zone.
UWW gives up a score 56% of the time in the red zone.
UWW gives up a TD 44% of the time in the red zone.

Advantage UWW in driving to red-zone.
IWU has gotten into the red-zone 49 times
UWW has gotten into the red-zone 53 times.
IWU has allowed teams to get into red-zone 49 times
UWW has allowed teams to get into red zone: 18 times

Place Kicking Advantage UWW
IWU field goals   3-11.
IWU extra points  30-40
UWW field goals:  9-10
UWW extra ponts:  65-67

IWU has outstanding numbers in a very good conference. Looking at the numbers, UWW should have the advantage if both teams play well. I have no doubt UWW will play hard and aggressively. They always do. If UWW executes well, they should be fine. This does not look like a good team to have an off day against. They could be capable of an upset if UWW is lacking in execution Saturday.

Guess it's Scheb's body of work...how many players set a record for all divisions of college football?

And if Mr. Coppage keeps up his pace, I fully expect him to be on the list in a couple of years.

And remember, off the field community service and academics plays a big role in this as well. I think either Jeff would have been a great choice. Congratulations Jeff and all the 2009 Gagliardi Finalists!

Jeff would have a great chance at winning if this was a career achievement award, with all the records he's shattering. However, a kicker winning a "player of the year" type award (and taking into account of off field acheivments off course) might be a bit tough...However, i wish him the best and hope he takes it home. It would be the icying on a stellar career!!

It seems like when he plays he always manages to pop a long run, 30 yards plus. You just kind of wait for it to happen.

Hopefully he'll pop a long one this week. meaning that hopefully the game will be decided in a few quurters, giving him a chance to get a few carries late in the game....hopefully if things go the 'Hawks way.... ;)

02 Warhawk,

A week ago, I asked what you thought the UWW score would be against Lakeland. Your response said you did not know, although everyone thought it would not be even close. What about this week against IWU?

I'm not good at scores....for sure it won't be a 70-7 rolling like last week. If they play their A game (maybe even their B game) they should advance to the regional finals.

Like I said before: Win, advance, stay healthy...repeat.

Does a score prediction really matter that much to you raider? Or are you just trying to open up some dialogue?  I doubt most Mount fans really care about what their score might be, only that Mount is going to win comfortably and nobody gets hurt. Survive and advance baby ~ that's the name of the game this time of year ~ the score means nothing in the long run. IWU comes in with a high national ranking in defense and pretty good offensive numbers, too.  UWW has faced this before this year and has weathered the storm quite nicely. I expect much of the same this week.  Looking forward to a more competitive game, though, then last week.  ;)  :D  ;D

Ahem....I beg to differ with your opening statement.  The final score is very important.  The OAC Playoff Pick-Ems have Whitewater as a 27.5 point favorite.  There's a ton riding on this outcome.

All I got to say is IWU better not be scoring any garbage time TD's to flip the spread!   >:(
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

As you all probably know, this award is not for the best D-3 football player.  It is for the player with the best overall combination of great academics, community service record AND football resume.  To be a standout in all three categories and warrant finalist recognition has to be tough.  The programs and the SID's nominate a player.  The UWW staff must have felt he was the Warhawk with the best overall resume and shot at the trophy.   The best of luck to Jeff.  What a career he has had!

Jeff deserves it but if I had a vote, DePauw quarterback Spud Dick would get it just because he had to go through life with that name.  ;D

This statistic made me laugh out loud. WOW, a 27% field goal accuracy and 75% extra point accuracy? I now appreciate Schebs that much more lol.
