Well, that was something!  Donovan and the offense was absolutely on fire in the first half and then the half time adjustments by MUC made it a nail biter to the end!  And let's not forget the defense, Olson was a monster and #23 made 3 amazing plays knocking the ball away from the WR's.  The thing that impresses me the most with this team, (and the 07 team had it, too,) is their, "refuse to lose," mentality that they displayed in the last two games.  Coming from behind in the 4th against the Cats and tied with 1:17 seconds in regulation against the Raiders and to win by 10???   :o  That is the mark of a Champion!  Just awesome!  Congrats to the 09 National Championship Warhawks, coaches and fans and to the past teams that have all contributed to this march to the pinnicle! A special thanks to all the Seniors, as Schebler said in a interview.................one of his goals was to win his last college football game! There is no better way to walk off the field for the last time!   8)

Apparently, ESPNClassic is not included in the comcast package anymore so I was listening to Pat and Keith too.  Great broadcast, but, just listening makes it so much more tense!

Thanks, G -- appreciate the shout-out. That's our goal, I think, to make it tense when the game calls for it.

As many of you may, or may not know, I'm a Johnnie through and through. However, since I live so close to Whitewater, I take in as many games as I can there. The past couple years, I have brought some of my golf partners to the games, and one of them has adopted the Warhawks as his own. (He's a front-runner anyhow, and although he grew up in southern Illinois, is a Yankee fan - so you can have him ;) They are a good program and have been an elite team for the past few years. Despite my love-hate relationship with the fan base, I have developed respect for the team.

Since this year is officially over, I'm wondering what next year holds. I see that UWW is returning many key players, although losing quite a few as well. The one problem I do see is replacing Donovan, who, even as Coppage was a deserving recipient of the MVP, I would have awarded it to Donovan, since this is his last year. MUC, on the other hand, appears to be losing most of it's better players. They always seem to fill the holes year after year, but I would give the advantage to UWW next year. That's not to say that we will see another repeat. I think that there will be much more balance at the top next year. I don't expect the revelry to die for a while yet, so don't slam me for bringing this up too soon. It will get talked about enough in the interim. Again Congrats.

Any team that can win those last two games that the Warhawks did are exactly Warhawks.
Hats off to the staff and players.
I am going to go move you to the #1 West team of all time on that poll in the West Region board.
Enjoy your year! Every one who can is coming to get you (once you get out of that WIAC round robin thingy  :) )

I was thinking the same thing today. our offense should be solid again, we are only losing one Olineman, one WR and of course Donovan our QB (which is the toughest loss of all). However I am excited to see what our DII transfer can do next year at QB. Matt Blanchard is a very athletic and moblie QB, I don't think he has the arm Donovan did, but hopefully his mobility will make up for it. Kind of like how Danny Jones was in 2007.  U might remember Matt's brother, derek, he was a all-world o-lineman for MUC a few years ago.

The defensive side is what i'm worried about..we are losing a ton of tallent there. Of course will be without our all-world kicker Jeff Schebler,  No way we can replace a special talent like that.

Wildcat'64

Don't write the Wildcats off for 2010 as they likely will be back in the hunt for another National Championship. Their QB (Bohme), 3rd String All American returns, as does their running backs and 90% of their entire defensive unit (remember the group that lead the nation in forcing turnovers this season).  They have to reload on the offensive line but have depth waiting in the wings for their turn for guys to graduate.  On paper they clearly look to make another run at the championship in 2010.....however, as we all know, injuries and other factors play a factor when trying to predict the outcome.  Just because a team looks like it has all the elements of success doesn't mean that's the way it ends up.....remember 2005 Warhawks vs. Wildcats.

Home field, home field, home field, home field, home field, home field. Can't say it enough. That's why WW surge starting in '05 was impressive. PLU and UMHB are as well.

I  would like tp tip my Top Hat to the Warhawks!

Congratulations on a great season and the
2009 National Championship!
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

4 bullet points:
Donovan was the MVP. Coppage was good but
The D & O lines were the MVT. Most Valuable Team
Pat and Keith were MVA. Most Valuable Announcers (ESPN announcers were un listenable)
Linfeild. Appreciate the back slapping but please stop claiming UWW as one of your own Westeners. UWW is as much in the real west as Cairo is next to Mexico City. They are in the west by bracket selection only.

Very Nice Victory Warhawks.....I'm sure next year the committee will pair you two teams in the semis for a revenge game to play the other semifinal winner!  8)

Olinemom

What a great game, guys!!  Congratulations to you all for not ever giving up and for finding a way to make 10 points in the last minute and change!!  I loved seeing #33 do so much damage and #11 getting the last points for his past d3 game was awesome!!!  Hope you all enjoyed the brownies!!  I fully intend to see you all next year again, so enjoy the time off now and then let's have deja vue all over again!!!

WAYT TO GO WARHAWKS!!  HATS OFF TO THE AMAZING OLINERS!!  LOVE, Olinemom

DIII Map

I can see what you are saying Stealth. based off a regular US map, it's hard to picture Whitewater as a west team. However, i think the NCAA is taking into account of the locations of other DIII schools. BAsed on the DIII map above, if you had to draw a East/West line based on school locations, the imaginary line might go through somewhere in Ohio, possibly.
