Saw this on the internet this morning. Very interesting. Figured that he would be at UWW for a long long time http://www.footballscoop.com/?cat=24 Look under the grand valley state listing. Like I said I am not surprised, because of his success. From my understanding this website is very very reliable.

Just dropped $200 on Division III championship merchandise at the UWW's University Bookstore.

Even though it is in the middle of Christmas break - a number of students and adults were in the Bookstore when I shopped on Wednesday. Virtually all were looking for championship merchandise.

Great t-shirts and hoodies.

The Scoop is certainly a good rumor mill. Just because he is expected to interview doesn't mean he will, or he'll get offered the job.

The date on that website also shows "Wednesday, December 31, 2009".  Did I miss New Years Eve?

You heard it here 1st, Matt Mitchell will be the next HC at GVSU.  However, this would be a great move for LL if offered the job at GVSU.  A job he has to take if he wants to move up the ladder.  If he were to turn GVSU down I think he is a lifer at UWW.  However, they will not offer him the job.

badgerwarhawk

Not that I expect it to happen but I wouldn't mind it one bit if Lance spent the rest of his career coaching the WARHAWKS.  He's an excellent coach, he's hired or retained very good assistants and he's a good recruiter.

But what perplexes me about your comment, short, is why you think that if he doesn't get the GVSU job that he's going to be a "lifer" at WHITEWATER.  That suggests that you either think that GVSU is the only job he can get and/or the only other program at a level above DIII that would interview and offer him a position.  No offense but that doesn't make any sense.

no baderwarhawk,

IF HE TURNS DOWN the job at GVSU he is a lifer at UWW.  GVSU is a great job were you can win DII national championships and move on to a DI head coaching job. If LL feels he is better at UWW in DIII then I don't think he is looking to climb the Coaching Ladder and will set strong roots at UWW.  I am not saying that is wrong. However, coaches only have so many years to climb the ladder and each move takes a few years before the next move is ready to happen and the right opportunity need to be there.  GVSU is that opportunity if he says no thanks I think he is saying UWW is the only place I ever want to coach! Making him a Lifer.

I figured his name would start to surface for higher profile coaching jobs sooner or later. Leipold has a lot to offer:

-He has two championships in his first three years
-Early signs of recruiting success -- even though the bulk of his recruits are just begining to contribute
-He's young
-Not to mention a winning record against MUC  ;)  :o (how many coaches can say that!!)

I really hope he sticks around though, but that's just me being selfish.  ;D

There are many jobs that will keep opening up if LL keeps winning which I assume he will.....Turning down the GVSU job if offered in no way makes him a lifer at UWW.....Your rationale makes no sense to me but then again it may be just me.....

Agreed....if he keeps up this winning pace, for his career sake, he should take on higher profile coaching job. Although we really have no idea what LL wants to do. most of his family lives in the area, it might be tough for him to leave...again.

I think what short is trying to say that IF LL wants to move up the coaching ladder, and IF he is offered the GVSU HC Job, then it is a good opportunity to take the next step.  Some would say Logical step, if moving up is his priority.

If the rumor is true, and he does take an interview, I would suspect that he is interested in moving up.  If he intends to be at UWW for the long run, I would assume he wouldn'g even apply or would come out and say he isn't interested.

If the Rumor is true, and IF he takes an interview.  How does that affect recruiting at UWW?  Will players be less apt to go to UWW if LL isn't fully vested in the school?  Or does the success keep the players coming, regardless of the HC?

Wow, there are a lot of IFs in that post.  ;)

YOU DON'T TURN DOWN GRAND VALLEY STATE if your at a D3 school and you won't to climb the coaching ladder! GVSU is to D2 like UWW/Mount Union are to D3, GVSU is to D2 like USC/Florida are to D1. Their last 3 HC's have ended up at Notre Dame.  I'm not saying he will not get other offers to leave if he continues to win because he will.  However, if offered the GVSU job he would be a fool to turn it down IF HE WANTS TO CLIMB THE COACHING LADDER ! If he isn't interest in moving up than UWW is a great place. However, Winning National Championships at 2 different schools and two different divisions looks GREAT for a coach.  If he took the GVSU Job he "could" be the Head coach of a D1 school in less than 3 seasons.  I don't see that happening if he says at UWW.

All of this is silly anyways the job is Matt Mitchell's

I just came across this...Looks like he applied for the position. Whether he gets it or not, has yet to be determined.

Grand Valley State

Why does one suppose Grand Valley State is content to be a step on a coaching ladder.?
