Is it true that when Mount Union doesn't win the stagg bowl which doesn't happen often three times in the 2000's that they do not have a banquet or was that just a one time thing after they played St. Johns in 2003. I heard from alum who played in the nineties that it's a tradition that if they don't win it all the players feel like thay have let their alumni of the program who did win it down. Found it interesting that they have such a proud tradition that if they don't win it all they have nothing to celebrate.

In the last 17 years since the first title, the Raiders have lost 3 National Championship games, won 10 and have not celebrated their season quite the same after a loss. However, the have come back to win the title 2-3 of the following years with players who felt the did not finish the job. Take Cecil Shorts who would probably get a shot at the NFL, but is coming back for 2010. Yes, they take it seriously for those who did win it.

False. The only difference between the championship years and the non-championship years is that there is no community gathering. At least that is how it was when I was there for 2 national titles and one runner-up.

"have not celebrated their season quite the same after a loss.". I believe we are saying the same thing. The community gathering has always been a big deal.

Wasn't correcting you-I was correcting the banquet statement. No worries, 68

Glad that is cleared up.  If the difference between champ years and runner-up years is just that there isn't a community gathering that would make sense to me  This, "rumor," that the program doesn't even hold a banquet in a runner-up year never made sense to me and frankly, sounded pretty arrogant.  Should celebrate the players and all their hard work, especially the seniors, no matter how or when the season ends, IMHO.

Agree, the players should celebrate and be acknowledged for their hard work. :)

This press release seems a little old, but I'm just seeing it for the first time. Kind of interesting.

End of the year strength of Schedule

I didn't see LaCrosse anywhere on that list.

Finally got the rest of my championship gear order today.  The packaging was torn to heck but the shirt was unscathed.  Think I'll wear it to work tomorrow.

Just another bit of evidence to prove the WIAC is the premier D3 Conference.  4 teams in the Top 20 for end of year strength of schedule, including 2 of the bottom 3 teams! Hmmm, interesting...these same two teams (RF & Oshkosh) should have it much easier next year  ;) or maybe not!

Oshkosh plays the Raiders, 1st game 2010, that will keep UW-Osh up there! :)

BoBo back from hibernation... :D

I believe the reason for UWL not being on that list is that they only had 8 inter-division games last year - that list is for schools with minimum 9 inter-division games.  ;)

...now I have to go back and get some reading done so I can get up to speed with all that may have happened in the last 2 months!! On second thought, time is precious...anyone care to summarize?

SHOULDN'T SAY THAT," TO

WHAT HAPPENS."

Summary:

1. Milton's Zach Fry (QB) is transfering from a DII school to WW.  Also some kid named Morris from Kenosha, another QB, is transfering from a DII school.  He'll probably end up at a different position like safety or CB.  A Jimmy Treslley (Madison Abundant Life) is coming.  He's a large offensive lineman.  And a Chad McCaroon from Illinois announced.  He played at the same school as AJ Raebel.

2. AJ Raebel has testicular cancer.  413 is his mother.  She's been keeping us up to date on his treatment and the word is that he is doing very well.

3. Lance Leipold was not a candidate for either the Tennessee or USC jobs.  :D

4. Garcon played well in the NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl.  Plus his Super Bowl TD catch cost me $190.

5. Jim Zembrowski was hired as the quarterback coach at Northern Illinois.  Steve Dinkel is taking his place as offensive coordinator.

6. Most of us got the DII championship DVD instead of the DIII one we had ordered.

7.  Jeff Donovan is playing baseball this year.  There was some discussion about who was the best quarterback.  Most went with Donovan and Justin Jacobs.

8.  Some guy named Cecil Shorts has decided to play his senior season at Mount Union.  I guess he's pretty good. ;)

9.  UW-Platteville recruited a female place kicker from Waunakee and announced it publically.

10.  Oshkosh is playing Mount Union in 2010.  That led to some discussion about WW/s scheduling them and the role that played in taking our program to the next level.

11.  Contrary to rumor Mount Union does have a football banquet in years which they have not won the National Championship however the community shuns them.  ;)

12.  Second place is for losers unless it's the Olympics.

That about sums it up.
