I would think the Adrian game would be considered a regional game, right? the past two years playing UPS didn't help us out much, regionally. Plus it appears Adrian has a stronger program, which is good.

Adrian and UWW will not be a regional game.

Not in the same sport region.
Not in the same administrative region.
Not within 200 miles of each other.
Not in the same conference.

I was hoping that the team was in the midwest, they would count..guess not

UWW has the issue of not enough D3 teams within a reasonable distance other than some of the non D3 teams that they have played for their non-conference games. UWW like the Raiders will continue have difficulty finding teams, and those that want to play them. It will continue to be a problem.

Huh?  MUC only has one non-conference game to fill out a year.  I've never heard Mount having issues in filling out that one non-conference tilt a year.

HScoach

Mount has had plenty of problems filling the opener.  Hence the need to travel to Wisconsin (UWW & Osh Kosh) or Virginia (Averett) to fill the opener when there are a ton of quality teams within a couple hour drive of Alliance.

The list of teams that want seriously challenged (and likely to get drilled) to open the season is a short one.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

OK, I really believe that Coach but Mount's issue in filling one game is much different than UWW's, LAX's, UMHB's, HSU's, Willamette's, Linfield's when these programs have had to find 3 games to fill and wind up flying 1/2 across the country to fill games.

Almost the entire CCIW is within a 2-4 hour drive of Whitewater with the exception of Millikan and being ranked as the 3rd or 4th toughest conference by D-3 Football, (can't remember exactly and couldn't log into 09 kickoff for some reason to check,) the unwillingness of their teams to play NC games against the Warhawks has been a pet peeve of mine for years.  And being from the Chicago area, these game would have been highly convenient for us. I have engaged in some lively convo's in the past on their board about this reluctance.  This will, however, be the first time I complained about it on Post Patterns as A.J.'s mother.  He was heavily recruited by several of their coaches.   ;) :D ;D

Taking on a UW-W or a MUC  has to test the mettle of most programs and I do get why the top of the CCIW like Wheaton, North Central, Illinois Wesleyan, (who had such a great 09 season,) etc, would hesitate to risk a chance for a play-off appearance with a loss but what about the mid to lower tier teams where a loss would not cost them that much and if they can have a respectful showing, could really benefit their program in many ways.

I really believe the CCIW teams would benefit their programs by playing UWW. The team that surprizes me is Wheaton. Although they have lost to the Raiders each time in the playoffs, you would think, hey let's see how we match up in a non-playoff setting against a top team. A potential good showing may even help them come playoff time!

I'd bet anything the coaches and players would be willing to play a UWL or UWSP maybe even UWW - they have the competitive juices, but it's the school administration that is against it. These blinder-wearing administrators won't permit regular season scheduling because of their view that public schools should not be part of DIII athletics. I believe I read on these pages a few times that the head man of Carthage, for one, has publicly stated something on this order. School administrators can be as stubborn as a pack mule.

It's a high risk, high benefit situation. Having a respectable showing is quite possible the first game or two of the season - but IMO the odds of having a debilitating loss are just as good.
Lakeland seemed to do ok after opening the season against UWW a few years back with a number of losses - when it was all said and done, they were playoff bound team much of the time.

Here is Voices open letter to d3 schools on not playing UW-Whitewater. It was on warhawkfootball.com
I don't know about you, by I was blown away when I was notified by Paul Plinske that both the 2010 and 2011 football schedules include 10 games and are finalized.

The final "piece to the puzzle" was Campbellsville University. The Hawks will travel to Cambellsville, Kentucky for a Sept. 18th game (week 3). I will be the only out-of-state regular season game for the defending NCAA Division III Champions.

It has been well-chronicled how WIAC teams, particularly Whitewater, Stevens Point, and La Crosse have found scheduling D3 teams in the Midwest for "ducking" the scheduling of non-conference games against the WIAC.

I ask the coaches and athletic directors of said schools to read how an NAIA school like Campbellsville University view playing a school like UW-Whitewater.

The following is an excerpt from the Cambellsville University athletic Website...

Night games and national champs highlight Campbellsville University's football schedule for 2010. The Tigers are set to open their first season on synthetic turf under the lights Aug. 28 against Kentucky Christian. Their second home game will come three weeks later when NCAA Division III national champion University of Wisconsin-Whitewater will come to town for a Saturday afternoon game Sept. 18.

"We are excited about our home schedule and the addition of Division 3 national power Wisconsin-Whitewater. It's always great for your program when you can play a team like Wisconsin-Whitewater, the 2007 and 2009 D3 national champions," CU head coach Perry Thomas said. "It will be a great game for our fans to watch, and it will generate great publicity for our program and university. Games of this caliber always challenge your team and prepares them for the tough games in our conference."

Wisconsin-Whitewater will travel to Campbellsville in 2010 as part of a home-and-away agreement that will take CU to Wisconsin in 2011.

I wish more DIII schools would have the same mentality!

I believe that philosophy/comment comes from Coach Rucks himself, the HC of Carthage, not the school administration.  Too bad, because Cathage is one of those CCIW schools who would have a chance to make a good showing against the Hawks many years, IMHO. BUT, to play devils advocate, starting the season with one loss if you are a conference championship contender in a tough conference like the CCIW where there is a lot of parity in the top tier, does put you in a hole regarding the play-off picture if you fall short of winning the crown.   I do get their reasoning but that is why I look more to the mid/lower tier teams a few short hours from UWW in the hopes that they would see the benefits of stepping up.

Much kudos to Coach Thomas of CU.

I don't believe that's correct. I have heard it's from the top of the administration.

Ah, then I could well be mistaken.  My source is just my memory of discussions with CCIW posters several seasons ago and that is what I thought one of them told me.  My memory is hardly a credible source these days since I have trouble remembering what I ate for lunch some days.   :D
