J Bill, that's exactly why I brought up the MWC (I'm the perfect set-up man & UWW fan to boot)!!  ;)

QuoteBlu shows an unwavering positive attitude so they can't discourage him, but probably other posters wouldn't bother sticking up for their school time and time again.

That's because he's from Texas -- and nobody messes with Texas (or so we're led to believe)!!  ;)

The fans of the other WIAC schools need to...well, you know what they need to do!! (it's not move to Texas)...

QuoteWhitewater fans are more than willing to talk about other teams. We often go to the Iowa, Ohio, Minnesota, and Northwest boards to talk about other teams.  It is just that the other WIAC fans do not talk much about their team here.
They do a better job of it during baseball and basketball season.

Don't forget the Midwest Conference, too. Some of the most clever & considerate posters live over there, IMO.

The MWC board illustrates my point well.  There's a new Illinois College fan "blu thru n thru", who is unashamedly confident about IC despite their non-existent history of success.  While most MWC posters have welcomed him, some have taken their shots, apparently feeling that others shouldn't be positive about their team unless they are St. Norbert or Monmouth.

Blu shows an unwavering positive attitude so they can't discourage him, but probably other posters wouldn't bother sticking up for their school time and time again.

That might change when games are actually played.

I have no sour grapes about WW - I jump on the bandwagon with whatever WIAC team lasts the longest.  However, I do understand what he means about is this just a WW forum?  I have 3 teams in closer geographical area and in spite of asking a couple times, no one wants to discuss any other team but WW here.  That's fine.  Perhaps we should have two threads under the western conf...one for WW and one for everyone else.   ::)  If anyone knows of any board where other teams are being discussed, please pass it along.  Otherwise good luck to you all, but I probly won't be lurking around anymore as I just don't know that much about WW.

Fan,
I'm sure I speak for most people in saying that it would add to the enjoyment of the board to hear information and insight on the other WIAC teams.  If you can offer some info on any of the 3 teams in your geographic region, it would be greatly appreciated!  It may even encourage other non-UWW WIAC posters to add their "two cents"!

I wld love to post more about my teams, but Im all new to this.  I've got more questions than answers right now. I have posted a couple questions and tried to start some chatter, but no responses.  I think the biggest drawback is the way this forum is set up.  One long post for every topic.  When someone does post about some other team, it is lost in pages of WW chatter and hard to find or even know its there.  I wish this board was arranged like the high school website Wissports, where you could pick your category or your topic (or even start a new thread) and it was easy to find people who wanted to talk about the same things.  A forum like Wissports would make D3 the board to go for all your needs!
My schools of interest are UWL, UWSP and UWEC.  I suspect these fans have found another place to chat and I don't know where it is.  I'll keep searching.

Cory Knapp appears to be the number 2 QB at this point. #14 is number three and #18 is number four (didn't catch their names).

Running back #9 showed some flashes. He may be the one that scored the other TD.

#14...Lee Brekke (Soph)
#18 Anthony Iannotti (Frosh)

The running back numbers were different than those I had on my cheat sheet but I think #9 may have been Levi Johnson (Frosh).

Interesting discussion. Since I am an SJU fan, I don't know the travails of those fans of teams that have not enjoyed the success that we have. Nonetheless, if there were not posters who were fans from other teams, it would be much less enjoyable in the back and forth. That's why I come here and post on occasion. The success that UWW has had lately gives an outlet to banter with fans of a school that is more of a peer, and the back and forth is refreshing, since those fans have a team that has been more than worthy of the sparring.

fan - there are many other threads on this board that you can go to for other topics. If you want to start another thread, I'm sure that if it had enough interest, it would thrive.

I haven't gotten into the discussion about how UWW will fill holes left by graduation, but I do find it interesting, and informative, thanks to the thoughtful posts by many Warhawk followers. I have had some of the same questions that have been addressed. The one big question for me is QB. Donavan was such a poised and talented guy, he will be tough to replace.

Now, that being said, I hope that my next post will be a little more provacative, and in keeping with my normal idiocy.

Go ahead and keep searching.  It doesn't exist.  This is already the #1 site for D3Football and #2 isn't even in the rear view mirror.

We just need the fans of the other schools to step and join in and not worry about getting their feelngs hurt.

Hey, I'm still here!

The fact is it can be a little intimidating to talk about other teams on this board. Not that UWW fans have ever done anything to discourage it if I recall.  The truth is no matter what positives I can come up with about my team, there will always be UWW fans willing and able to top it. And in most cases they'd probably be right.  I could try to plug someone else's running back, but immediately there will be UWW fans jumping in to remind how many yards, TDs and rings guys like Beaver and Coppage have. And they'd be right.  So I think some fans decide, "Why bother?"  There's an underlying feeling that you're not permitted to talk up another team without first kneeling at the UWW alter of greatness.  I also think there are a few UWW posters (a minority for sure) who really don't care a lick about other teams. They come for the mutual pats on the back and virtual high fives from the other UWW posters. (And really, there's nothing wrong with dong that either.)

I don't think it's unusual for the dominant team in the conference to also dominate the message board chatter (Isn't that right OAC? MIAC?).  Fans are more anxious to talk about a good team than a not-as-good team, so that seems expected.  Believe it or not, when I started using this message board, UWW was a regular 4th-6th place team and there were a lot fewer of you UWW fans around.  :D  Hard to believe for some of you more recent Warhawks I'm sure, but it's true.

Still, it's not up to UWW fans to talk less about their team. It's up to other schools to get on the board and talk about their teams.  So I hope they do.

Good post, Just Bill. My sentiments exactly...

Although I try to chip in a bit here and there, too. My excuse is I haven't attended as many WIAC football games the last two seasons, like I have in the past... so I don't have the insights of seeing my team live. Not that I am an expert in any way, either. Just a fan offering my two cents....

I follow via net radiocasts, and offer insights from that, but usually they aren't much more than what someone can gleen from the box score.... (Not to slight the main voice for my team; he does a fantastic job! I just feel guilty stealing from, or trying to paraphrase, what he tells us, other than the stats, during his calls...  ;) ))

Although a UWW fan, I can offer a preview capsule of each team in an effort to draw comments and interest from non-UWW WIAC fans. It would be better for the board overall to get fans from each school to join the fray! Let's start with UWW's long-time (dare I say hated?) rival:

UW-LaCrosse Indians (OK, ahem, Eagles)  (2-5 WIAC, 5-5 Overall in 2009)

Starting quarterback Nick Anker, who engineered the 3rd ranked WIAC offense last year (29.9 ppg), returns along with four of his top 5 receivers. UW-L boasts the return of Travis Bordeau and Alex Maxinoski, the #2 and #3 receivers in the WIAC in 2009.  The Eagles will have to replace 3 time letter winning running back Reid Oldenberg. Speedy jr. Lee Lauters, who ranked 8th in the WIAC in rushing is back and could be ready for a break out season. In all, the Eagles will have to find replacements for 5 starter on offense. Both the field goal kicker and punter are returning, as is the WIAC leading punt returner in Tyler O'Kane

Defensively, UW-L will have to replace 5 starters on their fifth ranked scoring defense. This unit is expected to be led by veteran defensive backs Derek Dreher and Dustin Drath, both of whom earned Honorable Mention All-WiAC honors a year ago, and Billy Niggeman who had three interceptions a year ago.

The Eagles have the athletes and experience in key positions to break into the top half of the conference in 2010.  However, to contend for the title, there needs to be dramatic improvement in both offensive and defensive line play. UW-L ranked second to last in sacking the QB last year and dead last in sacks allowed. In addition, the Eagles will have to finish drives with points. While they were second in the league in first downs a year ago, they ranked dead last in converting points in the red zone

(Capsule #2 of 7)
UW-Eau Claire Bluegolds (4-3 WiAC, 6-4 Overall in 2009)

Last year, the Bluegolds finished strong winning 4 of their final 5 games to secure a winning record and 4th place in the WIAC.  The Bluegolds lose the 2009 WIAC total offense leader, qb Kyle Paulson.  Paulson led the WIAC in passing yardage, was second in passing efficiency, and threw 24 TD passes against only 8 interceptions.  The Bluegolds also lose the 4th leading WIAC rusher Cory Sartorelli who rushed for 1,022 yards and 16 touchdowns a year ago.  UW-EC only ran 19 offensive plays all year (including non-conference games) that wasn't a run or pass by either Paulson or Sartorelli. In all, the Bluegolds lose 6 starters from the #2 ranked offensive unit in the WIAC.  Receiver David Goodman, who caught 39 passes for 733 yards and 10 touchdowns last year will be back.

UW-EC loses 7 starters from a defense that ranked next to last in scoring defense a year ago giving up an average of 32.2 points per game in WIAC action.  The Bluegolds ranked 7th in rushing defense and 7th in passing defense in 09.

Eau Claire ranked in the top half of the WIAC with a 4-3 record in 09 largely on the skilled arm and feet of Paulson and the hard running of Sartorelli. The potency of the offense covered up many of the weaknesses in other areas of the team.  However, against the top three teams in the league, the Bluegolds were 0-3 and outscored 122-62. Although the SID poll chooses UWEC to repeat their fourth place finish, that will require a tremendous team effort, shoring up areas of weakness, and replacing their two most potent weapons.

How did Booker Stanley the former wisconsin badger who has not played college football since 2004 do in the scrimmage. I am glad that Coach Leipold and the coaching staff are giving him a chance. If I remember correctly and I amy be wrong but the old staff did not think twice of telling him NO after he was removed from the Wisconsin football program. What a difference does six years and two national championshsips later can make. Of course he had some stuff he had to take care of off the field as well.

bleedpurple

Unfortunately, I can't answer your question because I wasn't at the scrimmage. I was told that he scored a touchdown and flat ran over a kid that took a long time to get up.

For what it's worth, Booker last played at UW in 2005. He is currently the 12th all time rushing leader at UW.

BoBo

Booker has probably close to a 10 year age advantage to those junior college kids.

It would appear that the Warhawk shelves are well stocked in the RB department!!  ;)

btw bp, La Crosse had their backup QB go down the first day of camp & hasn't been back on the field since. Dan Trussoni is out indefinitely with a knee injury. Another tough break for a team with a lot of injury problems at the QB position the past few years.

I hate to hear that. With the work these kids put in to get ready for a season, it's really a shame when someone gets hurt. Now it's REALLY important for Anker to stay healthy!
