Nice capsule on Stout.  They have a nice schedule early and a definite possibility to meet UWW for an undefeated showdown October 9th in Illinios, I mean Whitewater.  I am really interested to see how the travel plans effect that game as my Devils have to leave Saturday morning as opposed to the typical Friday departure.  Maybe more focused or more jetlegged, either way I know you cannot get down to UWW by more than a touchdown early.

Thanks BDB. I'm pretty sure it holds true that NEITHER team wants to fall behind by more than a touchdown early. Stout's running game is way too strong to try to play them from behind. Of course, over the course of 60 minutes, it would probably be unwise for either team to "sit" on a lead.  Still, getting an early 2 score lead would certainly be a huge advantage for either team.

BP, that would be DBG, not me, BDB.  ;D  I agree though, I am enjoying the "capsules" as well.

Sorry BDB and DBG!

Rumor central: Look for Alexander Webb, Indiana University RS Sophomore cornerback 6' 183 lbs. from Mequon, Wisconsin (Homestead H.S.) to be transferring to Whitewater -- any day now. He was a two-time scout team player of the week last year for the Hoosiers.

Seems like he is a walk-on (no scholarship) playing on the scout team. Might as well come to UWW and have a better chance at some PT.

Maybe...   ;D

Hey everyone, we have Oshkosh coming down to visit for opening weekend and wondered if there were any UWO supporters or if anyone could give me an idea of what to expect from them and how competitive the game should be!

Good luck this year

Oshkosh is doing the best they can to compete at a high level. They have a DI(Wisconsin) transfer coming in to play D-Line for them this year. They have one of the toughest non-conference schedules to start the season (Central, Mount Union). Coaching staff is really challenging their players to step up their game.

How likely is it for UWO to be 0-2 before they face a rugged conference schedule? Got to give them credit for challenges! ;D

Oshkosh finished tied for 5th with a 2-5 conference record and a 4-6 season record.  They are picked to finish 5th again this year. They are 27-2 in their last 29 season openers though I suspect Central is better than anyone else they've played.  Last year they were relatively balanced offensively with only a 44 yard difference between rushing and passing yardage.  They do return 10 offensive starters including 6 who started all 9 games.  Returning offensive players include both of their top two rushers and both quarterbacks they used.  Their leading rusher, Jeremy Roach, finished 7th in the league.  Roach also returns kicks and was a All Conference selection.  They return all three of their leading receivers one of whom also returns punts.  Two All Conference offensive linemen return.  Defensively they lost their leading tackler who also led the league in tackles.  However they do return four of the next five.  Both the punter and field goal kicker return.

Offensively they finished 7th in the league in time of possession, 6th in sacks allowed, 8th in third down conversions and 6th in red zone offense.
Defensively they finished last in rushing defense and 6th in passing defense and 4th in scoring defense.

The last Big Ten walk on that made that decision did pretty well for himself.  I'm talking about ex-Badger walk on linebacker Robb Widuch.

I think you will agree that most of the redshirts (like this player), even D1 scholarship RS's, end up playing on the scout team during their redshirt year. My point was that he did catch the attention of the coaches/players with outstanding play doing his team duty on the scout team. Most walk-ons try, I'd imagine since I've never been one, to earn a scholarship at some point in their college career -- and he was attempting to do just that. Getting noticed is the difficult thing to do -- he seemed to be doing that. Playing on the scout team is probably a badge of honor once these guys look back upon their careers when it's all said and done...the old 'been there, done that' thing!!  ;)

Thanks Nate...you have my vote, too!!  8-)

I think it's a great opener for both teams given what each program is trying to accomplish. I think Central will find an opponent with decent talent that is well coached and plays the game hard. Oshkosh will begin their quest that (from the outside looking in) looks like intentionally stepping up their non-conference competition in an effort to raise the level of their program. I think Oshkosh has won the respect of many with their non-conference scheduling.

I believe Central should win by about 10. They are where Oshkosh would like to be. But they will not be a pushover like a low level D3 opponent could be.  I believe they will provide a stiff enough test to help the Dutch improve.

Hey guys thanks for the info! I know I could have found it myself but being a full time grad student has eaten up a lot of my football time. Appreciate a good opener, Central has always tried to schedule quality teams, and I know any WIAC team is better than what most teams schedule!

Bleed purple - thanks for info!  Perhaps others will join in as the season gets into full swing.  Does anyone know anything about EC getting a qb transfer from a higher division?

I think it was a Debereau (sp?) or something like that from Kewaunee.  Was at Mich Tech.  That was the rumor anyway.  Don't know if he showed up at camp or not, and don't know why he left MIch.
Anyone else know anything?

Devil Badger Gopher

Bob Docherty transferred to UW-0 after playing for the Badgers earlier in the decade.  I know he was big and I thought he garnered 1st team All-WIAC, but he did not help the team make the next step.  I do not see their new transfer doing much more either.

It seems that Oshkosh is typically the darkhorse to all WIAC fans every year because most years the play the top tier teams tough.

No biggie on the mixup with BDB and DBG.  We are both Devil followers ;) anyway.

His name is Alex Delebreau 6'3" 210 lbs. He was a redshirt last year as a freshman at 2-8 Mich Tech - not on the roster this year. Picked to finish 9 in 14 team conference this year. Huskies top two QB from last year return -- may be part of the reason he left the program.

Docherty was a 1st team all conference selection in 2005.  Oshkosh finished 7-3, 4-3 in league play which tied them for third place which was their highest finish in the league since 1976 when they were co-champions.  I don't know how much Docherty had to do with it though. They duplicated the 7-3, 4-3  third place finish in 2007.

Looks like he did a lot of damage in high school..very impresive:

Named Wisconsin Football Coaches Offensive Player of the Year, first team all-state, first team all-northeast region, was team captain, team offensive MVP as a senior ... Broke the school records for career and season passing touchdowns, passing yards, and passing completion ... In 2006, broke the school record for passing touchdowns in a game.

Exactly...he was a TE wasn't he? How many college TE's lead their team to 7-3 records? Even when they are really good, they usually play much more a supporting role then top dog. He played in only 8 games and caught 18 passes on the year...I think he blocked more for that RB -- the name I can't remember off the top of my head!!  ;)
