Great officials over there in Wisconsin.

How original!!  ::)

I admit it's not original but I've always wondered how a team can go an entire game, plus overtime with 1 penalty.  The late hit called on SJU in the 4th quarter was an absolute joke.  It wouldn't have even been called in a pee-wee game.

Even last week the Johnnies were called for zero penalties...how is that even possible?

Maybe if the Johnnies had been capable of throwing for more than 138 yards against the 7th ranked WIAC pass defense from a year ago, you wouldn't really care how many penalties were called on the Bluegolds. The unfortunate thing about pointing to officials is that it tends to detract from giving the appropriate respect to the team that just beat you.

As far as the Johnnies having zero penalties last week and UW-EC only one this week, it is possible for a team to play a clean game within the context of how a particular officiating crew is calling the game.

Whitewater's top 3 RB's are certainly going to give many a migraine to D Coordinators throughout this year -- but the freshman Michael Pirtle from Bradley Tech in Milwaukee has got some serious giddy up to his stride. That kid showed some startling skills for a #4 back.

The kicking situation also appears to have worked it's way out, too. Rosholt is punting lights out (6 - 48.5 avg/44.0 net) & Kindler has stabilized a dubious opening week in the placekicking.

They do have to do something about the time of possession. Too many 1 play scoring drives.  ;)

Next weeks opponent, Campbellville University lost their first after 2 opening season wins, to Cumberland U 33-21. Cumb U scored 3 defensive TD's in their win.

IMHO, if you aren't getting a holding or pass interference penalty every once in a while, you aren't trying hard enough.

Nice weekend for the WIAC.  As expected, the conference shows once again that it's the deepest in D3.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

I remember an Army/Navy game a few years ago that had exactly 0 penalties.  Nobody could ever accuse the services academies of not trying hard enough, IMO. I agree with bp on this one. It's like a pitcher in baseball getting a consistant strike call on a pitch slightly off the plate because that's where the umpire is calling it.The batters might complain a bit. But when they realize that umpires strike zone, they adjust, or they get called out.

Am I missing something?  How do you, on the one hand, complain that an opponent was only penalized once during a game and on the other hand, comment that your team was penalized too much because, "they were called for zero penalties," the week before???  It is possible for the Johnnies to play a clean game in the officials eyes but no one else?  Granted, didn't see the game, maybe there was some homer reffing going on but that logic doesn't work for me.

One thing that struck me odd yesterday was when Dakota State came out of the locker room twelve and half minutes before the kickoff and stood lined up down the sideline waiting for the national anthem for the entire time.  No one did anything except stand there and wait.  Not that it would have made a difference one way or the other but I've never seen a team do that.

Was at the game, poor Dakota State.  I was born and raised in SD so very familiar with them and they were just so outmatched from the get-go. The hitting was absolutely brutal and I found myself cringing about 6 times in the first half alone and it takes a lot to make me cringe.   ;) About half their roster was from all over the country, (Fl, AZ, Wash, Cali, Tex, even a kid from Japan,) and the other half were home grown so can't blame it on just being farm boys. Aside from calling the game because of a slaughter rule, not sure how that score could have been avoided.

A big Congrats to the Warhawks and Staff.  We will see when we eventually face some more worthy opponents but this 2010 version is looking pretty unstoppable.  Defense is terrific as always, Matt played brilliantly and with all the weapons we have on offense.....................  (just shaking my head)   ;) :D ;D

I think Oshkosh is going to score a ton of points this year, and make a run at second place.

Just got back to Milwaukee after watching the game in person. UWO offense looked good...but had two costly fumbles on their side of the field in the first half which both led to MU TDs. The offense seemed able to score to keep the Titans in the game but the defense couldn't get pressure on the MU QB at all...very little pressure on the QB gave the secondary headaches trying to cover a very talented MU receiving corps. I'm not sure what skunks_sidekick was referring to about no rushing offense to speak of for MU...they ran the ball effectively in the 2nd half to control the ball possession.

I agree, UWO offense is going to score lots of points this year. While starting 0-2, I still feel good about their conference games about to begin  8-)

Best of luck to MU rest of the way...and best of luck to the Titans!

I don't want to put words in skunks_sidekick's post, but I think the point was that it wasn't a running attack up to the usual Mount standards. The running game might've been good for most teams, but Mount fans have come to expect much better than that. IMO.

That is exactly what I meant.  The years that Mount didn't win the Stagg, or even get there (except for 2007), they did not have a dominant running game, or running back.  When you are used to Chuckie Moore, Dan Pugh, and then Nate Kmic, yesterday was VERY average at best.  Quite honestly, a running game like that, coupled with a very poor defense doesn't come CLOSE to getting it done against WW.  Hell, it probably wouldn't get us out of the region (unless of course we get placed in the EAST again).   ;)

I commented to someone before the start of the game that from what I know about DS, they had to be pretty overwhelmed by the atmosphere in the Perk.  They played like it, too.

Does anyone else like Blanchard's deep ball better than Donovan's? I don't know about anyone else but I always cringed a little bit when Donovan threw it deep, he connected a lot for big plays but his deep ball always to be heaving it downfield, a lot of the time over the reciever's head and I don't really know how to describe it but he threw it higher and made it float more.

Anyways what does everyone think about Campbellsville?

Congrats to former UW-Stout coach Ed Meierkort. His South Dakota team upset Minnesota 41-38 today.

I'm a big fan of watching Gopher embarassments. And they're so frequent!

USD is my alma mater.  Hearing him interviewed on ESPN radio after the game put a big smile on my face. ;) :D ;D

BW - I also saw DSU lined up on the sidelines for over six minutes prior to the National Anthem.  I remember thinking they were just "taking in" the atmosphere. I was waiting for a player getting on the shoulders of a teammate to measure the height of the goal post as happened in te movie Hoosiers when the height of the basket.

Raider 68

The WIAC had a very good weekend and there will be some real competitive and exciting games this fall!

I am somewhat surprized that after one game, the Raiders are not as good and could have troubling getting out of the region. Sometimes the Raider faithful are too quick to declare the season as being just average after one game. Are there questions, sure, but some answers came after week 1. Let's see how the young guys adjust and grow in the next few games and after the Mount/ONU match-up, after that it will be more clear. I am just for patience after week one. I do think that Coach Kehres will work very hard on the running game since the passing  game and QB are somewhat ahead of expectations.

Give alot of credit to UW-Osh offense for 2 solid games, and they could be a big factor this season! :)
