I am sure that some of those Augustana teams from the 1980's could have had four. I remember them coming into Alliance and having the ball for 2/3 of the game and running on every play. (and getting whipped)

WIAC 3-2 with no real surprises.

UW-P
I would have liked to have seen UW-P hold up better against Wheaton. Things caved in during a second half in which the Pioneers were outscored 35-7.  They outgained Wheaton, which is somewhat of an oddity in a 31 point loss.

UW-P outgaining Wheaton could be explained somewhat by having 23 more offensive plays (88 to 65). Total yards was 412 to 389, so Wheaton was far more efficient on the plays they did run.  UW-P had 56 pass attempts, though only completed 44% of them.

While Wheaton outscored UW-P 35-7 in the second half, Wheaton was helped by a INT returned 78 yards for a TD, a 80 yard punt return for TD, a INT returned 51 yards to the UW-P 4 yard line.  UW-P held a 21:36 to 8:24 advantage in time of possession, yet were outscored by 28 points.  Weird.

Wheaton had at least one long INT for TD and another special team TD keeps the total yardage down while at the same time, the score went up.

It sounds like an echo in here!!  ::)

It was amazing the way Platteville imploded in that 2nd half. Talk about handing Wheaton the game...OMG!! The play calling was a little suspect IMO. They seemed to use the same running play over and over and over...if it was working, it might be ok. But, it wasn't...but they kept running it anyway. Obviously, they stepped up in competition this week, but I would be curious to know how this dreadful performance stacked up with the first two games of the year? If this is the kind of play we can expect in conference games, I predict Platteville goes winless from here on out.

My thoughts about UW-P against Wheaton based on watching a good part of the game:

RB: I like McIvor. He has quick feet and can gain yards between the tackles and make people miss in space.

WR: Vlasak, Blaser, and Pridemore all seem to be good athletes. Blaser is 6'2" with potential to cause matchup problems.  This team LOVES the WR screen and will bunch all three receivers together to run it pretty often. They are fairly adept at it too, but a couple got blown up when Wheaton saw it coming.

QB: I liked Anderson's feet. However, he wasn't real accurate on a lot of his passes. I don't know if he had an off night or if he just has some developing to do. Probably a little of both.

Defense: UW-P plays an aggressive 3-4. Their linebackers play downhill but were caught out of position a number of times. 11 of Wheaton's 35 carries went for 7 or more yards, and they gave up 4.6 ypc.  Their DB's made a couple of nice plays on deep balls, but Wheaton completed 21-30 for 228 yds and no picks.

Where I think UW-P will have trouble in the WIAC is on the offensive and defensive fronts.  I think this is a team that will wear down. If UW-W brings their A-game to PLatteville for the opener, it's tough to see how UW-P will hang with them for four quarters.

It is like Mount Union playing John Carroll in their first conference game! ;D

BP's prediction should be UWW by at least 42! :)

C'mon 68, UWW doesn't get to play in the OAC!  ;D

BP, BoBo,

Here is one for you, what if Mount Union played in the WIAC instead of UWW, what would be the outcome?

Converseley, move UWW to the OAC, same question? I have an easy answer! :)

Sorry, this really is an off-season question and I apologize for its timing, but I thought with all the comparison of the WIAC and OAC over the last few years, it is a good hypthetical one.

OK, how do you look at previous weeks' top 25? What's the secret? I am not locating them.

For one thing, Mount would have to cut their army to only 100!!  ;)  Are you sure they would be willing to do that?

I'm all for it if someone pays 2/3 of the tuition costs and they eliminate all the D1 schools within the state's borders to recruit against .  I think that's more than a fair trade off  ;D
