The Archives section of the UWRF library has film of games dating back to the 1950's, and  much of it is in amazingly good shape. While the teams of that era could not compete with today's, there were many individual "oldtimers" who were clearly as talented as anyone playing today.

P.S. Films of these games can be converted to a DVD format for a fee that covers cost and postage. Virtually all games from 1970 to the present are available, with the exception of the 1977 season (film of every game has deteriorated to an unusable state).

Well, that was hard for me to watch, seeing a young man talk about getting re-diagnosed with cancer. A terrific cause and effort by Coach Miech and the Pointers.  Would love to see the game and the team wearing pink!  Can you post an address that I can use to send a donation, Special?

THE best player I went against back in the day was a DT/DE for UWRF and played HS at New Richmond...tough due, good guy too...believe he's now a chiropracter somewhere in NW Wisconsin.  I want a DVD or two.

Anyone who thinks those football numbers got him drafted, IMO, are mistaken.  ;)

I wouldn't necessarily say that his football numbers got him drafted but had he not played football I seriously doubt that he would have been drafted.  There are and have been several DIII track athletes as good as Schroeder.   How many of them have been drafted?   I know of none.

interesting recent posts re/nsic d2 and wiac. the balance changed in a fairly short period of time. for example, john o'grady's rf team was 8-2 vs nsic squads from 1996-2000. the 2 losses were by a total of 4 points. rf was 33-17 overall during that stretch. but 4 years later i was in the stands as winona missed a long field goal vs grand valley state which would have sent their d2 playoff game into ot. i believe the nsic has a limit  of 24 scholarships vs the ncaa limit of 36, which makes umd's national championship more impressive. however, some of their members in addition to st cloud appear to be facing severe athletic budget problems.

It's too bad this board doesn't allow for the creation of different threads to be created within each conference page.  It seems like there are five different conversations going on all at once.  My guess is this is detracting from having fruitful conversations and is ultimately driving people away from posting/reading.

Check out DII's board if you wanna see what I mean.  Each conference has a way to start a different thread about an area of interest having to do with that specific conference.

I enjoy the board, but...

Was DE from UW-RF --Woody Fangmeier???

No, and it bugs me that I can't come up with his name.  6'4, 6'5, 270 or so...started at RF likely around '87 or so.

Arlin Frank.  He was a heck of a player.

I'm glad to see Whitewater is branching out to the Milwaukee (and Madison) market on its broadcasts. It's nice to be able to listen in on the game, without carrying my computer around the house now...

Call it obvious but could it also be due to recruiting of the area? I know while I coached at Bradley Tech last year there was a lot of interest by the Tech players in UWW due to the close proximity of the campus to the Milwaukee area. Personally, i'm suprised it wasn't already available in the Milwaukee area. Just my .02 cents.

Danimal, it sounds like the name you want is Arlin Frank, who's last year of eligibility was 1990.  He is from New Richmond and has chiropractic offices in Hudson and, I think, Clear Lake.

Email me and I will put you in touch with the UWRF guy who handles duplication of 16 mm and VHS film to a DVD format.
