Who sang the anthem, bp? Heard a little of it over the air.

Her name is Susan Bruk. She is a Christian artist who leads worship at our church.  She has recorded 6 CD's and her voice is amazing.  I also heard her do the Anthem at the Petit Center where she sang for the Olympic Speed skating Trials.

Kind of weird science, but Stout is the only team without a loss in the conference except to WW. If Whitewater wins out in the conference, and the Devils do as well, maybe a playoff spot is available to the second place team which would be occupied by Stout. Hate to have to look at it that way but that's what we've got right now I guess.

Don't forget about UW-P!

Hey BDB,

I knew Warminski was a stud both running the ball and on returns. But this Carlos Concepcion kid REALLY hit the seam hard on kickoff returns! Talk about fearless!  He was fun to watch!

Pat's take: No. 17 UW-Eau Claire at UW-Platteville. The Blugolds have had a tendency to drop a puzzling game over the past years (2007 and 2008 vs. UW-River Falls, for example). Teams know not to take anyone in the WIAC lightly, but perhaps Eau Claire might get caught with an eye ahead to next week's game against UW-Whitewater and take a little while to put the Pioneers away.

Pat? Pat? He did make a great observation, but he did put in the "Closer than expected" category. And he implied the Blugolds would put the Pioneers away.

On the other hand...

The Blugolds have been struggling to run the ball the past two weeks and stopping the run is the strength of the Pioneer defense. The Pioneers defense is #2 in Red Zone Defense, while the Blugolds rank #7. Platteville has a dangerous passing attack and UW-EC is coming off three straight big games. UPSET SPECIAL.

You should be. They play hard and they play the game the right way.  I hope Warminski heals (not easy to do playing a WIAC schedule).  No reason for the Devils to shoot for anything less than a playoff spot! If they keep progressing, they could go deep.

Agreed! It will be fun to track them. I'm feeling good about my pick for UW-W, UW-S going 1,2 in the WIAC! but a long way to go for all WIAC teams. It's starting off looking like a fun year.

Speaking of great prognostications:    

Agreed.  Even with our dominance the last several years, there is always a few teams that I traditional worry about more than others.  Stout is at the top of that list, (especially when played in their house,) and the Pointers who proved fairly recently that the Hawks are not invincible.  While my fear of the Blu Golds and the Eagles has waned since 07, they can be dangerous also if we ever phone a game in.  The Blue Devil's are traditional a proud program, very well coached and a hard hitting physical team so hey, do I think it warrants a little banter?  Absolutely!!!  Will I pick them to upset the Hawks?  Nope.  

Blue Devils came through and once again proved to be a big challenge for the Hawks.  A great team.  Their run defense impressed me the most and that 3rd down conversion stat is sick!  Congrats to the team, BDB and all their fans.  I agree, it sure felt a lot closer than the score indicated.   This team is going to continue to make noise in the conference.  
  Had a wonderful time at the Perk.  We enjoyed having many ex-Warhawks stop by our tailgate and now, several are bringing possible future Warhawks along with them.  Gotta appreciate the cycle of life!   Attendance and atmosphere was through the roof!  I couldn't believe that crowd on a day with the Badgers Homecoming going on, I surely didn't expect it to set a record.  Had to be a little intimidating for the visitors, I would think.  
    Now, how about those Pioneers.  Seems they are the real deal this year.  Good for them!  Of course, as soon as I start to pick them, that will probably change.
