Here's Brandes's catch. It was nominated for D3football.com's play off the week. I wish the close-up replay was on the highlight too. It's hard to see it at full speed from far away, but fun to watch anyways.

Incredible effort   :o

In the regular season, students get in free. In the playoffs, the NCAA takes all the money. Sometimes, a "friend" will pay for the tickets for students otherwise the students will sit in their dorm rooms and watch the game on the campus tv network.

Do I remember reading from previous years that the students all get in/got in to the games for free?  Our that many times their ticket costs were covered by a certain "friend of the program"?

The only reason I ask is I wondered how that affects the overall revenue generated from the gate?

I look forward to coming up there sometime for a game, but preferably when it is warm at the beginning of the year.   :)  Of course, that will mean it will be a non-Mount/UWW game, but we get to see that match-up enough as it is.

yea, there were tons of students at the game, but all they need to do is flash their Student ID and they get it for free. so it's not like all 11,000 paid to get in.

and like ILGator says, everyone has to pay during playoff time...whether you pay or someone pays for your ticket.

Students are admitted free to regular season games.  They have to pay for tickets to the NCAA post season tournament games.  DLK Enterprises has purchased blocks of tickets and made them available to students at no cost during the post season(s).  DLK pays the full ticket cost for those tickets as gate revenue for the post season is the NCAA's.

If I'm not mistaken students pay activity fees included within their tutition which includes athletic events so it's somewhat of a mischaracterization to say that their admission is "free."

This weeks WIAC players of the week

No surprise if you watched the UWW-UWSP game  ;)

OFFENSE
Levell Coppage, UW-Whitewater Jr. RB Oak Park, Ill.

Coppage helped UW-Whitewater put the first points on the board in a 27-14
victory over UW-Stevens Point when he ran in a nine-yard touchdown in the first
quarter. Then in the third quarter he scored another touchdown on a one-yard
run. Along with the two touchdowns Coppage rushed 39 times for 179 yards,
surpassing Chad Wurth for second place in the UW-Whitewater record book.
Coppage moved into third in the WIAC record book behind Andy Moriarty
(2004-07) of UW-Oshkosh in second with 4,496 career rushing yards.

DEFENSE
Ryan Immel, UW-La Crosse Jr. DE Lomira, Wis.

Immel had six tackles (three unassisted) in UW-La Crosse's 29-28 victory at
UW-Stout. He also had 1.5 quarterback sacks and a pass break-up.

SPECIAL TEAMS
Jared Jenkins, UW-Stevens Point Sr. P Milwaukee, Wis. (Rufus King)

Jenkins averaged over 54 yards per punt on a windy day at UW-Whitewater. He
punted six times for a total of 328 yards. Four of Jenkins's punts were 59 yards or
better with a long of 70 yards that pinned the Warhawk offense deep in their own
territory. Jenkins also had game highs in receptions (6) and receiving yards (85).

Yeah, what you can't see in this video is that the defender had pretty much come to a stop and was waiting on the ball. Brandes leaped over the top of his back/shoulder to grab the ball away. It looked like a sure interception during the game.

If you haven't already, I recommend UWW fans to listen to Pat and Keith's Podcast this for this week. Keith attended the game this past Saturday, and had nothing but nice things to say about the whole atmosphere of The Perk. He starts talking about it at the 20:00 mark, and he goes on for 10 minutes about his experience.

Then for the hell of it you can scroll down and read the nice things a disgruntled Wesley fan had to say about the podcast ::). Sounds like to me that he is still a little hung up on the 05 and 06 playoff @$$ kickings  ;D.

The podcast is really excellent and it is fun to hear about the wonderful atmosphere at the Perk from an outsiders perspective, especiallyl considering all the venues and locations he has visited for DIII games.   And about the Wesley fan, I think you hit the proverbial nail on the head! :o

I thought a win over UWSP would put UWW over the top this week...guess we'll have to wait till next wednesday to see.

UST has a bye week before the playoffs start (while UWW plays UWL), I wonder how that will affect their regional rankings?

West Region
1. St. Thomas 9-0 9-0
2. UW-Whitewater 5-0 8-0
3. Wartburg 8-0 8-0
4. Coe 5-1 7-1
5. Cal Lutheran 6-1 6-1
6. Bethel 7-1 7-1
7. Linfield 5-1 6-1
8. Pacific Lutheran 5-1 6-1
9. Redlands 6-1 6-1
10. Central 8-1 8-1

It's OK to link out to them. I bet not everyone who reads the message board knows we also have a blog with even more information.

So if UWW and St. Thomas both win out, who gets the number 1 seed?  Any reason to think UWW will not?

Maybe they both get a 'named bracket' (aka #1 seed)?

My prediction is that the #1 seeds will be UWW, Mt. Union, Wesley (or UMHB, if Wesley stumbles), with the fourth currently a toss-up between the Wheaton/NCC winner and St. Thomas.  How they decide that fourth #1 determines whether UWW is 'north' or 'west', IMO.
