Neither Beaver, Coppage or Kmic would get the kind of yards they've racked up without a lot of help up front.  The factor that has made the WARHAWK and Raider running attacks so productive is the offensive line.  Both programs have been blessed with good ones.  I know it goes without saying but I wanted to say it anyway.  :D

Certainly Coppage and Beaver are very talented and terrific backs.....I have no idea who is better but I do know that the Oline has a great deal to do with their success(somewhat predjudice in this area).....A huge part of the Olines success is Dinkel who has recruited and mentored this group of lineman into the best group in D3 for the last 6 years......Cudos go out to Dink and his Pound the Rock philosophy that has dominated D3 football for the last few years.......

As an O-Line Dad, I could not agree more about the impact Steve Dinkel has had.  I was worried about him moving him up to the box to call the game and loosing that personality on the sideline, but it has worked.  Kudos to him!

Justin Beaver was the "man" at UWW for those growth into a Natiional power years. IMHO, He was more than just a great back, he was the leader. Not sure if Coppage has the same leadership skills, but the UWW faithful can comment! :)
Justin was, "the man, the leader and the heart," of the teams he played on!

He was also very good at punishing the defender at the end of a run, as seen in this clip!!  ;)

Look at the forward surge of the Warhawk O-line as it pushes the Mount D-line back on their heals!! And then splits the 2 DB's like he was shot out of "The Cannon Guy's" replica big gun!!
Awesome video from the '07 Stagg Bowl.  :D  ;)

Don't think I didn't have that run in my head as the best example when I talked about, "making defenders who tried to bring him down pay."   Yup, the best all-around RB I have seen at UW-W and I was there at the end of the Chad Wurth era. And of course, a RB doesn't block for himself, the o-linemen for the Hawks the last 6 years are the unsung heroes of the team!  Nice small clip, BoBo.   :)

WarhawkDad

Thanks for your concern.  I apologize for the lack of updates over the post month or so. I am in the process of developing a Warhawk men's and women's basketball blog. Voice's Eye on Warhawk Basketball Blog is a project I'm very excited about and I'm looking for it to go online on November 15th.   I've spent maybe too much time on its development.   I also over-extended both physically and mentally in the days leading up to my induction into the UW-Whitewater Athletics Hall of Fame a couple of weekends ago. It was one of the highlights of my career and again I was deeply humbled to recieve the honor.

The post by WarhawkDad has kicked me in the butt and its time to get up off the mat and get busy blogging again.

Congrats to Shane Covington who's 133 return yards including an 86 yard kickoff return for a touchdown earned him this week's WIAC Special Teams Player of the Week.  Also Nick Anker (LaCrosse) this week's offensive player of the week and Ryan Pearcy the defensive player of the week.

I think that if D3football.com would have had a play of the week in 2007 there's a good possibility Justin's run could have been it.

Especially since there was only one game that week. Seems a safe bet.

I wonder how UWO's Craig McClelland (super back) got nominated? he threw a 33 yard pass, and caught two passes (one for a TD)...and that was about it. If one would nominate anyone from UWO that game I would think it would have been Wara. Wara did a lot of damage to the hawks' D (both passing and running) that game.

badgerwarhawk

Coaches nominate the players and do the voting.  Unless, of course, they've delegated that duty to someone else.

At times, coaches may nominate a player that they feel deserves to be acknowledged even if they recognize that they likely won't win the conference award or maybe even didn't have the best game on their team. There's some guys that could be nominated every week, but most coaches like to spread it around to recognize people that may have played above their heads.
