Wow....40,000+ at a high school football playoff game down here in Dallas this evening.  That's crazy.

Sorry....just felt like telling someone and my wife really doesn't care.   :)

The way Franklin played today, how many teams in the country do YOU think beats them by 31 with their backup quarterback?

I was having this same thought. Franklin isn't a pushover -- they're a Top 25 team. I don't think Franklin played particularly over its head, but they definitely matched up favorably against spots where uWW struggles.

bleed - Pat picked Whitewater closer than even you  ;)  50-21 I think...plus a couple others that were real close. A battle is shaping up!!  ;)

The late Paul the Octopus went 16-0 on my 1st round projections on www.uwfootball.blogspot.com.  Includes a 52-14 projection on the uww game.  ;D

Ok. The 16-0 is impressive, but the accuracy with which you picked most of the scores was just scary. Please do 2 things:
1- Keep your picks and scores this perfect.
2- Continue to pick Bethel to win  ;D

Hey dallas - Barber Greene echoed me almost exactly. How come you didn't jump in his s#!t?

It's funny when you try to compliment a team you really don't have a rooting interest in, and get taken to task. All I meant was that Brekke impressed me with the way he stepped in. I would think it's a good thing to have a backup who can step in if the starter goes down or falters. In my opinion, he played well enough so that Blanchard can't think the job will be handed to him next year. Sorry.

Barber Greene said Brekke could challenge Blanchard for the starting job next year?  I didn't catch that.  Either way it's not important enough for me to search through the posts to find it.  Again, I feel the same way you do about him as a backup and I am SOOOO happy UWW has him.  Once again...an AMAZING job today stepping in like he did.  I was just stating my opinion that in no way shape or form is there a quarterback battle next year based on this game compared to the full body of work all season long by Blanchard.  Maybe I'm off base by my assumption.

Thanks Hazzben.  But I know it won't get any easier, for either Bethel OR me!  ;)  But it sure was fun to see the scores roll in!

Bobo,
I won't be challenging Pat any time soon.  Pat, Congratulations on nailing the UW-W game, Wow!  ;D

Reminds me a little of Justin Jacobs. Amazing pocket passer who only ran when he had to, maybe he could grow into that role. Though I think we've been spoiled with having good passying running QBs for the last 4 years (which includes this year). He got good game experience for the future when Blanchard is gone.

Anybody else have any thoughts on my comparison? Am I right or completely wrong and should go hide in a corner?  :P

Pat Coleman

Thanks. Good thing I didn't know Blanchard would be out. :)

I think you may be on to something.  I think the performance, if anything, speaks volumes for the depth that UWW has.  Depth at every position is certainly something that has transformed UWW into elite status over the years.

We all know the score, etc on the field yesterday, but I have to say that the GRIZ may have won the battle of the parking lot.  Did any you see the spread set-up in the FC lot?  On a per captita, temperature, and mileage adjusted basis the GRIZ tailgate was above par.

I also would have though more folks would be in attendance for a playoff game.

Nice stadium and field.  Whitewater is also a nice place. Lots of old historical homes, etc.

We had fun regardless of the score

As a UW-W fan, I was embarassed by the size of the crowd yesterday, especially in the student section.  I think there were about 25 students total.  Next week will be even worse.

Devil Badger Gopher

It seems to me that this is a pattern with this 2010 UWW team.  Slow first half by their standards with several games having a lead less than 2 touchdowns.  Against the top teams, this will not work in their favor.  They will not win the Championship if they continue to come out slow and act like they do not need to play 4 quarters.

If my memory serves me despite the slow starts we've trailed exactly once this season 7-0 to Platteville.  The slow starts make me uncomfortable.  Obviously they're something the team and staff would like to correct and I do think that as we advance in the playoffs a fast start becomes more important.  But I don't think it's a matter of acting "like they do not need to play 4 quarters."  You have to give our opponents and their staffs some credit.   They prepare and develop schemes designed to beat us and initially they have had some success.

Brekke = LaCrosse's loss and WHITEWATER'S gain.  You have to give the kid a lot of credit.  He was under a lot of pressure yesterday both mentally and physically and he responded with an outstanding effort.  Give the offensive line some credit too.  For the most part he had plenty of time to find receivers and make his throws.

Student attendance is always poor during the playoffs.  I wish it were different but it's been a consistent pattern.  I think the opening of deer season also was a factor.  Regrettably I don't expect it to be much different next week with the BADGERS playing at home.

What do you guys expect out of the students (except me) when they:

1. Don't really know much about the team
2. Think it's "boring" that we win all the time and feel we should lose occasionally to "make it more exciting"
3. Won't go out when it's cold to the games because they don't care and expect us to win.

Pitiful attendance overall, not just for the students.
