As I said on Wesley's board if their team feels the same way their fans do, they won't practice as hard and it'll show in their play. Wesley's a good team and should play better than last time, though I think UWW wins by 21+

Something I heard on the d3 football weekly podcast that Keith said is something I had been pondering has made me go hummm, again...that is the idea that Matt Blanchard is not going to play again this year. Are they using him as a decoy? Hear me out - as long as the opponent thinks Blanchard might play, they are going to have to waste time game planning for him. If he was announced as being out, they obviously wouldn't, which would be to their advantage. Pat even said (21:22 into the podcast) he looked good in warm-ups again. But the fact he isn't getting into the games is a little perplexing. Keith's view from afar is that there is a possibility that Blanchard is done for the year. If so, sounds like Brekke is going to have to pull an Earl Morrall-type effort leading the Warhawks to the end. Hopefully, Brekke's season ends better for the Warhawks than Morrall's Colts team did in 1968 in Super Bowl III replacing the injuried Johnny U - maybe more like the Super Bowl V season for the Colts when he replaced Johnny U again or what he did for the '72 undefeated Dolphins filling in for Bob Griese!!  ;)

Aren't Blanchard and Brekke's styles pretty similar?  Would an opponent have to spend that much time preparing for each of them separately?  I understand that Blanchard is older and more experienced, but I don't know if the UWW offensive game plan is that much different, other than he probably has more options to run/pass and audible.

I would keep dressing him so that opponents think he might play, but I don't think opponents are spending extra practice time preparing for both.

Blanchard is the better runner/scrambler.  It is true that there haven't been that many designed running plays for Blanchard this year.  Brekke is certainly no worse a runner than Donovan and things turned out all right with Donovan at QB.

Because most teams base their beliefs and practice habits on how their fans are posting on internet message boards.  ::)

Hey, MW, if both our teams take care of business, we have all next week to visit with you guys and compare how our lowly record the last 6 years doesn't hold a candle to Mounts.  What?  Are the Bethel posters too tame for you, just more fun to come over here and poke us with a stick??
JK'ing.  You know you are one of my favorite Raiders.  :-* :-*
I thought it was kind of interesting as well that as we were walking into the stadium, a large group of NCC tailgaters started to holler at us from across the way.  Haven't been yelled at from across a parking lot by opponents fans since..............oh,,.............all of the 05-07 Stagg Bowls.   ;)

Walking towards the stadium Saturday we passed two NCC students.  They were walking away from the stadium and it was only five minutes or so before kick off so we asked them if they were going to the game.  They replied, "No we don't have as much school spirit as UW-WHITEWATER does," and laughed.

Sitting on the NCC side of the field for a better sight line and because the only seats left on the visitor's side were those in front of the band I thought the NCC followers showed plenty of spirit.

@fff413,

If MTU makes it to Salem this year I won't be able to attend.  :(  My wife is making me go to her school's Holiday Party, and they seem to always have it Stagg Bowl Day.  She's mad because she went to the last two by herself.

EDIT:  Haven't seen any Bethel posters at all on the OAC board.  I'll have to make my way over to the MIAC board I guess.

My observations:

1)  Tailgating at NCC was a blast.  Walking from the parking lot to the stadium past NCC tailgaters was not a problem and they were spirited but respectful.

2)  UWW Defense took control in second half and forced the turnovers that led to the scores.  When you are #3 in the country in takeaway differential, that is what good defenses do.

3)  #40 of NCC may be the best linebacker of any DIII team I have seen play.  But I would stack Lane Olsen up against him in big games.   Lane just seems to pick it up even more as the playoffs progress.  My most vivid memories of him are watching him covering Cecil Shorts in last year's Stagg Bowl and knocking down the pass and of him forcing fumbles in the 4th quarter.

4)  The UWW O-Line just flat wears defenses down and Coppage is a workhorse.

5)  Our halftime adjustments continue to be spot on....and that comes from coaching, not just LL, but the coordinators up in the box.  Excellent job.

No kidding.  I'm not too happy about it!  The worst part is the party is at this dive bar that has a less than 50% chance of being any fun.

Even a dive bar should get ESPN or ESPN2 on the screen.  Do we know which one yet?  I haven't returned to Virginia since leaving in 07 with the biggest smile on my face that lasted for months.  But I refuse to watch it at home in my family room either so the last 2 years I have organized a viewing party with family and friends at the Mad Boar in Whitewater which to me is the next best thing and will do so again IF we win this weekend in Dover.  The first time in 08, I called Nick, the owner, and asked how early they were opening on game day and he asked, "What time would you like me to open, Mrs. Raebel?"  Probably not a good sign when a bar owner knows you and considers you that good a customer.  LOL  ;)

Glad you enjoyed the atmosphere on the NCC side. I was a little disappointed in our crowd noise, I definitely though the UWW crowd was louder.

Sitting at the 20 on either side of the NCC side next to some NCC students (I switched sides from the South side of the stands to the North side at half), I was happy with our fans tact for the most part other than a couple drunken students on each side who were doing their best to ruin the experience for everyone. I was hoping that the UWW people who sat in that area wouldn't project that NCC fans are ignorrant and out of hand based on just those few people. It sounds like, overall, our NCC folks conducted themselves well.

Just too bad the outcome wasn't in our favor.
You win! You always do!
