Perhaps retagent, after 2 consecutive championships and 3 in 4 years, it's a kinder, more gentle Warhawk Nation. I can see where this must sound like a bad dream to you.  ;)

Once we start acting cocky...retagent will be the first to pounce on us for letting all these chamionships go to our heads  ::)

Didn't Oshkosh finish in the lower half of the WIAC and with a losing record?  I do not see this team making it over the hump anytime soon much less compete with UWW.  UWW had some history behind them before their recent Championship run, but UW0 does not really have that past history even in the conference.

DBG-
Yes, UWO finished in the lower half of the WIAC at 3-4 (4-6 overall) this season. UWO finished 3rd in conference 2x since 2005 so not a ton of "past history" but they have been in the top 1/2 in the recent past. The biggest difference is the 2 3rd place finishes had teams with a great defense and a decent offense. That seems to have flip-flopped in recent years. If the defense improves to its 2005 and 2007 levels, mixed with their offensive production from this season, I see a potential to climb to the top 1/2 of the WIAC next season...but maybe I'm biased and slightly optimistic  8-)

2009 4-6 Fifth Place
2008 4-5 Sixth Place
2007 7-3 Third Place
2006 5-5 Fourth Place
2005 7-3 Third Place

I'm more than a little disappointed in the UWW posters here. You should be dismissive about OWO's, and anyone else's claims to be able to challengs the MIGHTY WARHAWKS. Damn, you've earned the right. ;D

Something like:

The Titans couldn't beat the Warhawks, even if they were the Tennessee Titans.

C'MON!!

I don't recall the last time UW-O beat the WARHAWKS and we've owned them for the past two decades at least.

How's that retagent.  :D

Seriously I think the Titans are starting to put the pieces together and if they get stronger defensively they'll be a competitive program.

Sounds improbable perhaps, UWO fans, but Nate Wara has long dreamed of being a Badger. Fulfilling his dream would cause Titan fans some sleepless nights, no doubt.
If there was any reason to think he was pursuing that dream, I highly doubt he would have joined the UWO basketball team before the holidays.....

BW- The titans beat the Hawks in 2002 in oshkosh 21-20. After the season the league office had determined that Oshkosh had used ineligible players and had to forfeit the game. I don't cosider that a W for the hawlks because we lost the game on the field. However I do remember coach Brez and the other coaches claiming it as a W. It also hurt as WW had a chance for the playoffs if they won the game.
So they beat us in 2002 in oshkosh 21-20. Unless you consider the who forfeit. thing which i don't because the game is won and lost on the FIELD.

Hope everyone had a great holiday and has a safe New Years Eve.

HS Coach--any reasons given by your source about why VK would have turned down Falcon job?

The Titans were tough this year. They certainly held their own, but like UWEC, they lost games they shouldn't have, to inferior teams.

Do they get to go to Alliance to start their season next year?

I like UW-O's approach in building the program.  Certainly scheduling Mount Union and Central indicate a determination to improve.  The fact that they landed a quality QB in Wara is a good sign as well.  He is a championship quality QB.  But I think they need to lose the whole "trick play" thing.  They were fun to watch, but I think they should focus on playing straight up and improving.
I totally agree. I think they have one of the best Strength and Conditioning coaches in the country also. Sooner or later UWO will be mentioned in the same breath as UWW. I just hope we keep getting the best of them.

Yes, they will be traveling to Alliance next year. I'm not 100% sure on the whether UWO will host Central though...I would hope it was a 2 yr series. No doubt having the previous 3 Wara brothers at UWO helped pursuade Nate Wara to choose UWO as well.

As for the strength and conditioning coach...If I recall correctly he came to UWO from UWW just a couple years back correct? I know he was not our S&C coach in 2006 during my last season. As a former UWW coach I can see why you might think is is one of he best   :D
Haha, either that or I measure where I was physically when I met him against where I was physically when he left. A lot of my teammates were tremendously better after a couple years under Brown's watch. We used to talk about our gains and say "What can Brown do for you?" :P

Fred....let me field that question as I know HSCoach is a bit busy now.  Things are "interesting" in Alliance these days, so if the perfect storm came along VK would accept a position.  The "perfect storm" means that the college is completely behind growing the program with facilities, growth in the campus, commitment to the student/athletes, etc...

From what I heard, that is not the case at RF.  Not that VK is better than anyone else, but he has been in a program that has done all the above to the extreme.  It was a good interview experience for VK, and he will see what happens next.

skunks--Thanks. Unfortunately, that makes sense to me as I consider why, reportedly,  Kevin Bullis turned us down, and the situation as it exists at UWRF. But maybe we lucked out anyway. As I remember the interviews, Mark Walker made the best impression with the players who were there. There was an obvious connection with them that none of the other candidates made. I would guess they're happy with the selection, and that may mean Walker will be a sorely needed good recruiter.

It will be interesting to see if his name comes up in the interview process for UW-LC.  I only know what I read here but with the addition of a new stadium and a new HC, I would suspect that they maybe tired of the fall the program has taken the last 5 years and could be motivated to get it back to it's former glory of the early 2000's,   A Kehres orchestrating an Eagle's comeback would scare the crap out of me but it would be great for the WIAC as a whole.   Much better chance of a perfect storm happening in LaCrosse, IMHO!

And you know what they say, "if you can't beat em, join em!"   ;) ;D

Fred, that is HUGE!  Chemistry is one of the most important ingredient to a winning program.  Players that want to win for their staff and each other is an important key to success.  Congrats on the new hire and good luck to you and the program in 2011!
