bp, is he getting looks at safety? That 40 time is faster than the times posted by CSIII, I think...Raider 68, is that right? That's even better than John Clay.  ;D

Just read on cbssports.com that Mark Ingram, the 2009 Heisman Trophy winner, improved his time from the combine at Alabama's Pro Day. He was timed in the 40 between 4.47 and 4.53. So, if Lane Olson ran 4.41 that's good. Are those the type of stats that will get a DIII guy noticed - I saw where Mike Tomlin and Ted Thompson were at in Madison for the UW Pro Day - did they hang around to see the non-headliners (Carimi, JJ, or Kendricks)?

CSIII ran a 4.53 at the combine.  But I think he was still recovering from a hamstring injury he got at the Shrine Bowl.

MTU is hosting a Pro day on 3/16/11, we'll see what Shorts runs then.

Shorts was a Top Performer at WR for these "events" at the Combine:
Bench:  21 Reps - 3rd
3 Cone:  6.50 - 4th
20 Yard Shuffle:  4.07 - 5th

Other Results (from NFLdraftscout.com):
40 Yard Dash:  4.50
20 Yard Dash:  2.54
10 Yard Dash:  1.59
Vert:  34 1/2"
Broad:  9'6"

40 Yard Dash before Combine: 4.34 - 4.43 - 4.54
National Champions - 13: 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2015, 2017

Yes, he is trying to get a look at safety.  He's training with Next Level.  Although it's hard to compare the combine and Pro Day results in a strict sense (different surfaces), no doubt running a 4.41 on any surface helps him! Clay ran 4.73 and 4.77.

BoBo,

K & J's Dad pretty covered CSIII's time and performance, and it seems that most of the athletes are improving their Combine efforts through their Pro Days. I would expect Cecil to do the same on the 16th. Depending on the Draft site, Cecil could be a top 10 WR in the draft. I see him as a 4-5th choice, and I hope Lane Olson gets a crack at it as well. +K

Not sure of the DB draft competiton this year! :-\

Not to be a Debby Downer here, but it'll be tough for Lane to get drafted, no matter what numbers he puts up.

I remember Justin Beaver put up some of the best Pro-Day RB numbers during his NFL workout (even equal to or better than McFadden's), but he was never drafted. I think Lane might see the same thing happen to him...too bad, b/c we has a ton of talent.

I'm not sure he'll be drafted either but I do think he has a good chance at getting a free agent invite to someone's camp.  Of course that assumes that the NFL will be functioning normally next year which with the current labor situation is questionable.  If things continue as they are teams will not be able to sign free agents so those who are drafted would be ok but anyone else would be in no man's land.

First and foremost Congrats to Lane...Unbelievable numbers!! Training at NX level with Brad Arnett has paid divedends for numerous UWW athletes!! Justin Beaver, Pete Schmitt, and now Lane are all got or are getting the opportunity to see some time at the next level because of their great workout numbers and obviously super athletic talent.  Lets also keep in mind that the "Official combine" in Indianapolis is ALL electronic timing, where as university sanctioned combines are all hand times. Regardless unreal numbers for Lane. Shorts, without a doubt, regardless of times and workouts has the speed, field awareness, hands, and moxy to play in the leaugue and it would be a crime if he didn't get a shot. Lane who is switching positions is going to have a tougher time at cracking a roster, but Lane was and will be a Freak on Special teams, is as tough as anyone ive played with, and is a great hitter and tackler regardless the level of competition. the next couple months should be a great time for them and the D3 nation...Best of luck to both!

Were there any other DIII players from the state at Wisconsin's Pro Day?  If so, any talk about their performances?

I'm sure Jared Jenkins from UWSP will try to give the NFL a go...not sure if that conflicts with his basketball schedule though.

Or possibly Patrick Mengelkoch from Stout might be there as well.

I'm not saying they for sure are there, I'm just trying to think of WIAC players that might have a shot....

Pat Coleman

He has no basketball schedule -- hasn't played for the Pointers this season.

Thanks 02 for keeping me grounded. I now recall JB did put up some eye-popping numbers during his Pro Day. Who knows what might've happened had he had the physical numbers the NFL is so locked on.  On the other hand, Lane Olson, listed on the UWW roster at 5'10" 195 lbs. might have a bit extra physical measurables that JB needed to get a more serious look. I think you are right, though, about his draft chances. He is definitely a heat-seeking missile on defense, but he would be one of many in that category on those draft boards. Hopefully, he'll earn a shot with someone in the 2012 season - I don't think we'll see a NFL season in '11 (as you can tell below my post!!  ;) )
