Good points, JB. I'm a fan and I'm glad he found a way to connect with a part of the community. In fact, I set up the connection by contacting the coach/manager of the Fighting Fish. Neither knew about the other.

When I posted this subject, I did not expect a big debate about whether it is "proper" for a D3 coach to have a life outside football.
Both the team and Coach W. are happy about the connection.

Yup, Sakman, I'm still hangin in there at city hall.

K&J Dad,  you little pot-stirrer, you.   ;)  Let the man blow off steam playing a little ball during the off season in peace, would ya?   ;D

First time in a LONG time that I've been called "little" unless someone was referring to my mental abilities.  ;)

Nice story today about a former UWEC Blugold linebacker, Justin Greenwood, and the progress he's made, and things he's been doing to help raise awareness about injuries, since the near fatal injury he sustained during the 2003 season...

Way to go, Justin...

It's great to see that he has found a mission and is making his life meaningful.  He'll undoubtedly help a lot of people and is an inspiration to all of us.  Thanks for linking the story.

Wow - great story. What a class act. It's great to see people look past themselves and to others.

Congrats to Justin and all that he's accomplishing. May success continue to be a part of his future. :)

Hey Thunderhead- I think you mean "a part" of his future  ;D

I understand you're upset about getting dinged for your political opinions- but that's the risk you run when you choose to promote your political beliefs in a forum they really don't belong. Like mamma said, we should refrain from discussions on politics and religion if we want to have a pleasant dialogue.

Your mamma said that too??  ;D

ThunderHead

You guys are right I did mean "a part" an not "apart" in my previous post, needless to say, it's corrected now ;).

As for my posting my political beliefs, I'm really not "promoting" my political beliefs so much as I am just showing support of our current President. (trust me, if I was promoting you would be fully aware of it) My advert just rubs JT the wrong way on the political board, so I guess for that it's worth it.  :) (all in good fun)

As soon as the season starts I'll be joining the "helmet club" ;D And furthermore, yes I was given that advice about politics and religion from both my mother and father....and uncle and aunt and grandpa and grandma and..... ;)

How does the Head Football Coach of a College Program with two daughters at home have time to play in an Amateur Baseball League?  I am an Assistant Football and Head Track Coach at the HS level and my wife would leave me if I joined a recreational league of ANY sport!    ???

I just had to comment on this because it brought back so many memories.  My father, very good baseball player, played on a recreational league back when I was a child.  My mother used to go to the games and take us children.  She enjoyed relaxing, watching the game and chatting with the other spectators.  Us kids had a great time playing with the other kids and watching our dads.  Afterwards there was usually ice cream on the way home, or perhaps a stop at a bar for a burger or a house for a potluck.  He played on the same team for several years, so there were a lot of friends made.  Good times.   Not every mother and children are sitting home waiting.  Every family is different.
I am kind of amazed at the assumptions that were made here by several different posters.  Huh??

fanofwaic,

I can completely relate to your thoughts on this. I spent many a spring, summer, and fall day out with the family at athletic events. It was a good time, and an experience I wouldn't trade.

It takes a special women to make that work, this much I realize, and while every women is special, perhaps not everyone women is cut out to pack the kids up and head out all the time.

Also, sadly in todays age, I think some kids may even have a problem with this set up, I'm not terribly old, but we certainly didn't have "online" gaming to take the place of hanging out with friends at the ball park. In some ways, online gaming is a social event that's replacing past social events, like real ball games themselves.

To bad.

Just my two cents + 10%.
