"No doubt Coach L would be politically correct in his answer, but that doesn't change the reality of the situation.  North Central, in my opinion, was certainly right there with Mt. Union in terms of the toughest competition of the playoffs last year.  As much as the preseason polls are irrelevant, this site would be hopping with comments and dispute if the Hawks were ranked similarly I do believe.

I understand the number 1 and 2 in the preseason poll; the guesses that follow those two don't really matter. Last year North Central started at about 14th in the poll. The only poll anyone at NCC is thinking about is the one at the end of the year. We'd like to be right next to (and hopefully above) either or both of the numbers 1 and 2 in these polls. I think one reason they moved us down was due in part to the departure of Matt Wenger. The 2011 team will be different but it has a lot of senior leadership on both defense and offense and the 60 or so new freshman/transfers will provide some new strengths to build on this year and into the future.

Thanks for providing the rankings 02.

Is anybody else surprised with the rankings of North Central- 7th and 17th? Especially Lindy's at 17th.
I'm curious what the pollsters consider before setting the rankings.
I don't imagine they included the following question in their criteria- "Coach Leipold, please list in order the teams that give you the most concern in a playoff game".

They have no pollsters. That's the problem with these rankings. They write 200 pages on D-I and tuck a half-page on D-III in there somewhere. I'll wager these rankings were created by an unpaid intern who hasn't heard of half of these schools. He/she just took last year's final top 25 and rearranged it a little bit for variety.

Yea, I wouldn't put much stock into Lindy's rankings. I just posted them b/c it's something interesting to go over until DIIIfootball comes out with their preseason stuff.

Personally I would of put NCC much higher, they gave UWW the tougheset game last season.

"If they included that question they'd get a list of all the teams we faced.  Coach L respects all of our opponents and takes no one and nothing for granted."

Like '02 and yourself I don't put much stock in preseason polls particularly Lindys.  The only rankings that matter are the final NCAA regional rankings.  The rest are just conversational fodder.

I hate this time of year.  For me it's easy to go from WARHAWK football to basketball and then baseball.  But once the baseball season ends it's boring until the cycle starts again.

This lame duck sports period is the reason I posted the question about NCC preseason, I need to have some sort of football talk. I had a lot of respect for that NCC team last year and I figure they are likely going to be seriously reaping the recruiting benefits of recent success- which means they join the "reloaders" and leave the "rebuilders".

On another subject altogether.  My 15 year old boy has got to be the most stiff, unlimber (word?) kid on the planet. Aside from me telling him to generally Stretch all the time, anybody know of a good flexibility program you can direct me to?  Thx.

02 Warhark,

These polls really do not tell us much, including the HANSEN poll a few years back. At least the D3 poll is pretty close since they know the teams better than others. The top 5  in the D3 poll when it comes out, will have 2-3 teams who will go far in the playoffs based on history. Could this year have a surprise team? ;D

Raider 68-
I'd love to see a surprise team.  I think your Mt. faces a team in week 1-Osh Kosh, that has an outside chance of surprising some.  They lost some talent, but a returning QB and the confidence of having played the #1 and #2 teams last year should help them.

I'll also put NCC and Wheaton high on the list this year, you can see the CCIW teams are pushing each other hard and i think we'll have a champion from that conference before too long.

Will Trine replace their stud QB?  If so, look out.

You can speak better to some of the OAC teams.

emma17,

I do not see any other OAC teams as " the surprize team" Other years, I would say ONU, but in 2011 they have to replace several starters. I do think UWO will be strong in 2011 and give UWW a good game this fall. Not heard much about UMHB for '11 and Wesley could be in the thick of it, but that is not a surprize team. NCC will be good again, but not a suprize team. :)

Raider, I don't know if Oshkosh will be strong or their usual self...but beware of the trick plays!!  ;)

BoBo,

The Raiders will be ready for UWO! :)

I don't see them giving UWW much of a game either!!  ;)

So Whitewater is ranked #1 again.

I guess that means we'll be on the road in the playoffs again.  Darn.   :P
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!
