Your punter was pretty good as well.  He had some really nice kicks.

It was funny because one of the La Crosse broadcast guys - I don't remember which one - said nearly the same thing. The other one replied in sort of a deadpan tone, something like, probably the last thing the Eagles offensive coordinator wants to hear. The way he said it gave me a chuckle.

The 56 yard punt by Rosholt that he stuck inside the 1 sounded like a thing of beauty & they were quite impressed with it, as well. They couldn't quite figure out how he got it to hit and stick in about the same spot.

I thought the UWL defensive and special teams acquitted themselves pretty well against WW. The offense, however, was all but non-existant- having only 119 yds. and a late TD. Did WW still have the first team in at that point ?

Initially it was a mixed grouping.  The dbacks were starters and the front seven were reserves.  The last couple of plays, including the touchdown run, were against reserves.  We did our fair share of helping the Eagle offense by giving them 30 yards in penalties.

I thought the Eagle defensive speed was very good.  They seemed to go sideline to sideline quickly and often shut down runs for shorter gains than it looked like they were going to get.  Your punter was pretty good as well.  He had some really nice kicks.

One penalty struck me as odd.  After we had huddled and lined up to run the play the officials made Steve Morris (I think) leave the field for an equipment problem and then penalized us five yards for delay when we couldn't substitute and run the play in the allotted time.  Huh?

It was number 65 Jim Norris with a helmet problem.  I had always thought an official time out caused a restart of the play clock, but obviously not.

Thanks for the correction, Dad.

Rosholt is kicking well.  I've watched him in practice, both scrimmages and the LaCrosse game.  He's booming them. Great distance and hang time.  Looking at the stats there was only about a 2-3 yard difference between his kicks and the Eagles' kicker.

Listening to the LAX broadcast was brutal, BTW.  Anyone know what happened to the our broadcast on 106.5?  Did it finally come on because they were playing music when the game began but I didn't check it after that.

fbf413, I had to listen to the La Crosse broadcast, too.  It was brutal having to listen to the enemy radio. However, as far as broadcasters go, I thought they weren't that bad. In fact, they were quite complimentary in all aspects to the Warhawks, respectful, and knowledgeable. Unlike many of the opponent broadcasters I've heard in the last few years, who seem to think their team is the greatest thing since sliced bread, these two gentlemen (don't know their names) seemed to fully understand that there is a clear talent level discrepancy between the two teams.  They did kind of played up the David vs Goliath angle a bit too much for my tastes. La Crosse only had about 75 total offensive yards in the book midway through the 4th quarter, so they were obviously hyping the defensive play (though the Warhawks were close or over 400 total yards) and the punter of the Eagles.  I didn't hear the game from the start, but I heard the play-by-play guy mentioned a few times how nice the stadium looked from the inside of the pressbox. Apparently, it was his first game called on the radio from that location. Toward the later part of the game, I turned back to 106.5 and they were broadcasting, the game that is and not the oldies music!! Don't know when the game came on, though. My best guess is that the first game with voice fully retired from the mic was a bit too much for them to handle. I think no one trained the guys how to plug in the wires or something (just kidding). Everybody has first game jitters.  ;) Something like this happened a few years ago, if I remember correctly. Hopefully, things will get worked out by next week.
Ya, I wasn't able to listen too closely to the broadcast as much as just keeping track of the score.  Had a family birthday party going at the same time.   Wasn't criticizing their knowledge or questioning their bias, just more the monotone aspect and reaching for, "wins for LaCrosse."  Considering how little I actually heard, probably shouldn't have rendered an opinion anyway, in hindsight.   :)

I have to acknowledge that this may be the first time on any board that someone has actually admitted posting something a little rashly. That's what this is all about ;D +k for you 413 on that.

On a more serious note, what's the skinny on UWEC? I'll take even the rashest of comments.

Howdy La Crosse fans,

I have a special affinity to La Crosse as it is the home town of my great grandfather.  He is buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery next to the campus.  If you are coming to the game, I imagine you are staying in nearby Temple where most of the hotels and dining opportunities are.

If, however, you want a taste of real down home Texas bar-b-que I suggest you join me for my pregame meal at Schoepf's Bar-B-Que in Belton.  Great food with all the fixins' in a real down home atmosphere. I will be there around 4:30 and will be wearing a crimson Austin College cap.  Takes about 20 minutes to get to the stadium from there.

Long range forecast shows the cold front will still be here on Saturday with a chilly high of 90 and around a shivering 88 at game time! ;D  Hope some of you can make it to Schoepf's but to those who can't good luck in the game against the CRU (to a certain extent, of course!).

Eau Claire seemed to field two teams last year: the team before the Platteville game that upset St. Johns, Stevents Point, and fought into the 4th quarter with mighty north central. However after a young team went to platteville without the benefit of an overnight stay (per budget restraints) and got slaughtered nothing seemed to go right, barring a win over Oshkosh. For what it's worth Kickoff predicts them to go 4-6 this year. They return all 11 starters on offense and eight players back on defense too, so the team should be a) better b)less succeptible to losing focus after a bad loss. So I think if Dr. Jekyl UWEC can remain on the field for all 10 games this team should be capable of doing some good things and exceed the 4-6 kickoff prediction. 6-4 is quite possible.

retagent, for clarification, I didn't interpret "brutal" in fbf413's comment to mean the announcing was bad or any other sinister plot she had against anything La Crosse. Regardless the circumstances, a fan probably wants to listen to their "home" teams broadcaster, if you can't be there in person. Anything else is just brutal!!  ;)  Get it?  Unlike you and I, fbf413 has never taken pot shots at anybody - I doubt she would start now with the La Crosse radio crew!!

You're right Bobo, I did mean Ford.  For whatever reason, I have called him Olson for two years- He plays pretty well as Olson too.

A friendly reminder, Franklin is at 1:00 Eastern time, so noon around these parts.
Franklin has to be riding high and I'm sure will be confident this Saturday.  Last year they held UWW to under 4 yards rushing per carry, which says something about their run defense last year.  This should be a real test in many ways, especially in pass defense- and I think one that will help for the remainder of the season.

Oh, come on now retagent!! Telling us smiley faces makes you nervous is a rediculous excuse for trying to get attention. That kind of crap might work on your home board, but over here...? Geez   ;) (oops, sorry about that)

Oh, btw, since you started this tell-your-feelings business, pencil sharpeners and slime make me nervous!!

The OAC Pickems has UWW by 24.5 over Franklin, will they beat that against Franklin away. Have no clue

Raider, I'm uncomfortable enough just picking winners and losers when it comes to UWW- I will absolutely stay away from point spreads.  This early in the season, I'd rather see them win by two touchdowns while working on weaker parts of thier game, then to use their strength and put up big numbers.

BoBo

^^ emma17, I don't get your reasoning above. If your teams weakness was punting (or punt coverage team), would you intentionally fail to make first downs inorder to get your punter and/or the punt coverage team work? If your teams weakness was FG kicking, would you intentionally stall drives in the red zone inorder to get your FG kicker work when you could've scored TD's instead? I realize this is a simplistic way of looking at it, but I don't think I would - but from your answer to Raider 68, it sounds like you would at the expense of scoring TD's. To me that doesn't add up. Sounds like a good way to lose a game to an inferior opponent. It's possible (and desirable) to score points at the same time as working on improving weaknesses.  And you do that by just playing the game and getting experience. You can't script a regular season game to work on certain areas like you can during a scrimmage or in practice. IMO, scoring is an effective evaluation tool while working on improving weak areas of your team. If you have the capability of burying a team, you do it. Practice is the time to coach up and work on the weaknesses and turn them into a strength, not during a game with a competitive opponent trying to knock your hat off.
