That blog made me sad.

To see that we were THIS CLOSE to having a school nicknamed the "Normal Nockers" .... well, I just feel ... cheated.

:'(
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

I can only imagine what the mascot would have looked like.  ???

I think it would have to be mascots ..... as they would need two .....

Oshkosh may have a good team but it doesn't seem like they care enough to come out when the Badgers and Brewers are playing, they had attendence of 949 on Saturday.  :o

02 Warhawk, the UW-La Crosse PED's in today's performance enhanced drug-fueled world would be so politically incorrect - however, they would have a ready made group like the racing sausages for their mascots - characterizations led by Barry Bonds, with Manny, McGwire and Sammy rounding out the foursome!!  ;)

PEDs...nice one! Then again, that might be insinuating something about La Crosse  ;)

Anyone else watching the UWW-UWP game on FSWisconsin?

Damn...I probably should have posted this on my blog. Rookie mistake. I'll be sure to post the remaining televised games.

Brian Carroll

Great win last Saturday for UWL. Fake punts, fake fg's and a 17 point 4th Q to nip the stunned Pointers. It was a beautiful weather day as well beneath the bluffs in La Crosse. Final non-conference game this weekend. Congratulations to coach Dettwiler  on his first head coaching win.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words regarding my "These are the Good Old Days" blog entry.  I appreciate them!

O2 Warhawk, thanks for the research and the info on the nicknames.  Great idea and very fun to read.

I have to say, I have laughed while Perk told the story many times.  Too passive is right! As soon as he arrived the Quaker nickname was dead on arrival!  Whoever submitted the name "Warhawks", I just want to thank you!!

bp, do you have a copy of one of those old Warhawk logo's prior to the bird?  If so, could you post it?

When doing my research, the Whitewater archives office forwarded me this:

On the far right was the "Quakers" logo. Then came the original "Warhawk" logo of the Indiana. then, of course, it was changed to the Warhawk bird.

They forwarded a blank space?  :-\
I think you're missing something with your code - at least a "]" after the first img, but then I only get a X where the image is suppose to be. Need a solution.

When the stadium was first built the Warhawk mascot rode a horse across the top of the hill on the east side of the stadium during games.   He carried a lance like spear similar to the FSU Seminole and raced back and forth full speed after scores.  Of course now the mascot has changed to a bird and the pine trees on the east side have grown but I always have thought that was coolest thing.

Just to be clear I have no problem with the logo change though I'm glad we've gone away from the first representation to the current one.
