As a quasi-newbie, help me understand. Is it only games in region that truly count for pool C?  UWO beat Central and lost narrowly to #1 UWW. Out of region they lost to #2 Mount Union.  They are a two loss team, albeit, just one loss in region.  Someone sort it out?

You can start at http://d3football.com/interactive/faq/playoffs .

There are 6 pool slots for this season. It's my impression, although I may be wrong, that one Pool C team is selected from each region. The remaining two slots can be filled by teams from any region.

We'll also see the annual moaning from schools that get left out about some conferences that get AQ slots, such as the NATHC and MWC.

And Voice, I hope your feeling better, it was good talking to you before the game.  And thanks for the "pedestal" comment, it was what I was trying to say after last week's game. You said it much better.

WarkhawkDad,

Hope UW-O makes the playoffs, they are a good team! :)

After looking closer at each game.....wow, this was probably the best set of WIAC games for one week. Each game just about came down to the last drive.

Great week of football.

Should Oshkosh win out and finish 8-2 with their only losses to UWW and Mount, they will be in a spot that even the NCAA has never been before. I'm sure it will be a hot topic of conversation when the football committee meets to decide. But IlGator is right (IMHO), we never know what they're going to do.

WOW!  Now that UWW BARELY beats UWO on a last minute field goal, and Mount handled them rather undramatically, I guess UWW can just send that Walnut & Bronze to Ohio.....right?   ;D

Congrats to UWW...those kinds of games make you better & tougher come play-off time.

How does that old saying go?  Those things which do not kill you only serve to make you stronger.  Something like that.

Following the game an Oshkosh mother said to me, "Mount Union will demolish you guys!"  My response was to tell her that we didn't have to worry about that for eight weeks and right now what we needed to do is focus on Stevens Point.

One game at a time.

Unfortunately I'll miss my first WARHAWK game since I don't remember to attend a wedding in Chicago that evening.  I've begged, pleaded and offered ridiculous concessions for the opportunity to stay home but to no avail.

I did a quick wrap of the game on the bus coming home.  We didn't have all of the stats and I made a couple mistakes (that's what I get for trusting my memory) but at least it was something.  Hopefully Pat will consider adding it to the others that were sent in.

Just to expand on me getting run over by an official yesterday on the Titan Stadium sidelines...

I'm taking photos on the sideline as the Hawks are on the game winning drive.  On Levell's 47 yard run I'm snapping a series of photos when - BOOM - I am run over by a WIAC official.  I go flying backwards and hit the back of my head pretty hard on the not-so-soft turf.  My camera goes flying and has just possibly given me my last Warhawk football photo.

Anyway - the night ends up for me watching the Badger-Michigan State game at the Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital emergency room.

Ouch!!!!

Sorry that happened.  I hope you are fully recovered soon!

Bummer!  I hope you are on the mend soon, Voice.  Football is a tough sport.   ;)

Oshkosh Mom got me thinking (DANGER ALERT)  :

Other than the score, what did Mount do differently in week 2 vs Oshkosh than Whitewater did on Saturday that would prompt a football mom to express that terribly nasty, rude comment to bw.  Maybe (sour) passion grapes in the heat of the moment?  Well, when I dug deeper, I found some interesting details in the major statistical categories:

                 Mount                   UWW
Rush            148                     220
Pass             269                     209
Total O         417                     429
Punts              6                        5
INT                 2                        2
sacks by          2                        2
fumble lost      0                        1
fumble rec       2                        0
TOP             31:12                  31:30

The only thing I can't account for in the box score is intimitation factor. Oshkosh played UWW at home, on homecoming before their largest crowd in Titan Stadium in 13 years; they played Mount one the road in a place like 3 teams have won in 2 decades.  Everything else being pretty much even - except for turnovers - Mount and UWW played Oshkosh to a near standstill. Turnovers (IMO) appeared to destroy Oshkosh against Mount, which wasn't the case vs Whitewater. Just like WW/Osh was a great, hard fought CONFERENCE game, Mount, too, has had a couple of them this year, as well. Comparing (IMO) these games as if anyone can make definitive conclusions doesn't do justice to anybody. Hopefully, it can be settled on the field at some point in the next 8 weeks (playing one week at a time, though).

Rock solid defense by the Devils tonight. Both squads had to start the offense deep in their own territory several times. Both teams would move the ball but then stall out.

Stout had a couple big turnovers in the game but over came them. Then LAX gave up the big pick and the Devils turned that into points. Our punter had an excellent game putting the Eagles in a tough field position many times. Overall a total team win.

Getting a shutout on LAX is quite an accomplishment for this team finding it's real game.

Your punter, Mike Scherr, should be in the running for WIAC Player of the Week... I listened to the game on the radio, and it seemed like he prevented UWL from gaining any sort of field possession, or momentum... He had 9 punts - three inside the five yard line, and 5 were inside the 20...

And the whole Blue Devil defense should be honored this week; it's tough to pitch a shutout, especially in conference play...

Interesting change in the top 25 poll. It looks like UWW lost a first-place vote, which was expected.

But, as it turns out, two voters switched from UWW to UMU, and one voter switched from UMU to UWW.

So what road trip will UWW take for their first-round play-off game? ;)

I guess it really doesn't matter, but...

...Why was that expected?  Who expected it?

BTW, how do you find out how individual voters voted? Or who the individual voters are?  All it says is this under the poll:

QuoteThe D3football.com Top 25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country, and is published weekly.
