Interesting change in the top 25 poll. It looks like UWW lost a first-place vote, which was expected.

But, as it turns out, two voters switched from UWW to UMU, and one voter switched from UMU to UWW.

I guess it really doesn't matter, but...

...Why was that expected?  Who expected it?

BTW, how do you find out how individual voters voted? Or who the individual voters are?  All it says is this under the poll:

QuoteThe D3football.com Top 25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country, and is published weekly.

I figured some voters would change their first-place vote once they saw how little Whitewater won by (compared to how big UMU beat UWO by). I'm not saying it's right, I'm just making an observation.

As far as how I knew the voters changed...Pat and Keith talked about it on this week's podcast. I'm curious what that one voter saw this Saturday that changed their vote from Mount to UWW....interesting.

Maybe had something to do with this:  from reading the OAC fan accounts, Mount had/is having some passing game woes, only 9-21 85 yds 0 TD's on Saturday by their two QB's...seems they were having trouble hitting the ocean from the beach; they didn't exactly light up a declining Capital team.

Following the game an Oshkosh mother said to me, "Mount Union will demolish you guys!" My response was to tell her that we didn't have to worry about that for eight weeks and right now what we needed to do is focus on Stevens Point.

I know this is an older post...but I'm just blown away about this comment.

I ran into a BUNCH of very friendly Oshkosh fans, I had a great time tailgating with them and being at the game.

02,

Maybe it was just a quick reaction to a game that she felt Osh could have won. After all the Mount/UWW games, neither team will demolish the other, IMHO!

That's probably exactly what it was. I guess it's one thing if BW was gloating after the win (which I can't see him doing that)...but it's another for someone to go out of their way and make that comment to the nearest UWW fan who was minding his own business.

I know, I know...UWW (or any school for that matter) has no shortage of "those" types of fans. It's a shame.

Here is the first couple of paragraph's of Tom Silverstein's Packers write-up on JSonline:

Minneapolis - The 2011 Green Bay Packers are not your typical 7-0 team, or at least what you would expect a 7-0 team to be. They showed it again when they ground out a 33-27 victory over an undermanned but overachieving Minnesota Vikings team at the Metrodome on Sunday. Coming in at 6-0, the Packers were supposed to walk all over the 1-5 Vikings, who were missing five starters, including both cornerbacks.

But hardly anything coach Mike McCarthy's team does is easy.

"If you're trying to look at it that way, yeah," fullback John Kuhn said. "But in my opinion, 7-0 is 7-0. If you get wins, that's all that counts. When things aren't easy, that's kind of when we thrive, that's almost when we play our best football.

"I feel we have a lot of room for improvement, scary as that may seem at 7-0. We're happy going into the bye."

Sure seems like UW-W and the Packers share a common ingredient.  Dominance is nice and wins high praise and all kinds of awards.  Character, when combined with talent and execution, wins championships.

Whether or not UW-W wins the WIAC, playoff games, or the National Championship, I hope every coach and player on that team are proud of what they accomplished on Saturday and what they have accomplished in beginning the season 7-0.

I was very dissapointed, but proud to be a Titan on Saturday afternoon. They played a great game. My thoughts on the game:

- UWW's OL looked smaller than I remember in the past.
- UWO's DL was able to stay gap disciplined for the majority of the game and really limited the UWW run game
- UWO was most successful running the option out of the inverted wishbone in the first half (thanks O'Grady).
- UWO seldom pressed the UWW secondary by passing downfield. Seemed UWW could be attacked in that fashion.
- Coppage was held to under 90yds rushing until he broke off his 40ish yd run with under 2 min left in the game
- UWO could not stop Blanchard from running. He was the leading rusher until Coppage's long run.
- Overton got hurt after selling out to prevent a TD run...impressive play. I thought immediately he suffered a concussion on the play.
- Wara seemed to be off on his passing this day...missing easy passes in the flats, etc. He was not pressed by UWW's DL on those passes.
- 2 timeouts on UWW's last drive were worthy, IMHO. 1 due to a player unable to get off the field and 1 seemed related to defensive alignment pre-snap.
- UWO had an impressive goal line stand to hold UWW to a FG on their last possession (from within the 5yd line).
- Surprised UWO ran a dive then called an immediate timeout to start their last drive. I know UWO ran a dive for 70ish yds in 1st half though
- Surprised attendance was listed as 3,863. I thought there was double that in the stadium
- I think the incident with the UWO mother was heat of the moment. I thought fans were respectful on both sides.
- UWO seemed to have played much more poorly with fundamentals against Mount. I wouldn't put much stock in the differences of like opponent scores.

Thanks for bringing that up...I noticed that too. That number doesn't seem correct.

I actually talked to two Oshkosh coaches as they were coming out of the press box (coaches side) and going down to the field.  I told them that I truly hoped they made the playoffs and they told me how impressed they were with UWW's ability to have people adjust and fill-in for injuries.   They also complimented the offensive line (maybe because I was wearing a #65 White Stagg Bowl jersey!)   Very nice guys and the type of sportsmanship that should come after a game played as well by both teams.

I do not understand comments like they one from the Oshkosh Mom.   I wonder how Oshkosh will be next year without Wara, he is a huge part of their execution?

For what it is worth, last year's UWW offensive line averaged 289 lbs and 2011 averages 287 lbs.   They might be slightly shorter, but I think the UWO defensive line was very tall!  So maybe it is not so much UWW being smaller as UWO being bigger than in prior years.  Our tight ends are a little smaller with Novak graduating.

Also, UWO did a great job with being gap disciplined and again running a 3-5 a majority of the game, blitzed very aggressively and that resulted in the appearance of keeping Coppage more contained.  In reality over last several years Lavelle has always had big runs during games.   Ultimately the rushing game did perform.  Hats off to Joe Hansen for moving from Right Guard to Center when Grant Poenitsch got injured.

I don't think the mom was trying to be rude or anything like that.  She was obviously a Titan
player's parent and understandably disappointed by what had just transpired
.    What was kind of funny about it was that with a potential of 7 games remaining she was already assuming that we would advance to the national championship game.

I also was surprised by the announced attendance.  It seemed like a larger crowd.

The level of disappointment had to be major.  For the Titans to play so well and to come soooo close to doing, what every team in the D3 world aspires to, knocking off the defending champs, and to just fall short, I will cut her HUGE amounts of slack.  That being said, it has always been a point of pride with me, as a parent of a player and now an ex-player, to be a great ambassador of Warhawk football!  I try not to miss an opportunity to engage and welcome opposing players and fans.  While not in uniform, you need to keep in mind that you are one of the faces of the program and always act accordingly, IMHO.
