I have my final WIAC Weekly Matchups writeup available on my blog.

Nice write up 02, thanks again for taking the project on - I've enjoyed your work.
I was surprised to read Wara (Oshkosh) only has 13 TD passes this season. Prior to the season starting, I figured he'd be in the mid 20's.
I wonder- if Oshkosh had it to do over again, would they opt to run Wara a bit less and pass a bit more. They have good receivers but it seemed Wara was a bit anxious to tuck and run.

hey  warhawk  ,
the rats would  love to have made 4 extra points that would  have giving them a chance at OT with the cats..  :)  the cats blocked them... talk about special teams play ..  8-)

Go Cats
Go Big D

The fact that the Pirates even had an opportunity for that many extra points against the Cats should be cause for concern.

Yes it was BUT :o , Glad the cats could make some lemon aid out of lemons this time  with a come from behind win.. ..  8-)

Yea, thanks for reading!! +K

I think running the ball with Wara was the right thing to do.....To tell you the truth, I don't think he was all that accurate this season. He has the second most INTs in the WIAC, and is barely a 60% passer.

But Wara and Neu are going to dominate the WIAC next year at that position I think. However Anderson probably won't be close behind.

Absolutely. Winning is all that matters.

Full disclosure requires that I admit that in 2009, I poked a bit of fun at the Cats defense after they gave up 36 points to a Puget Sound team (0-10 for the year) that had averaged 9 points a game coming into their week 7 game and hadn't scored more than 15 points in a game over their first 6 games.  I poked even more fun after Linfield followed that effort by giving up 44 points to Pacific Lutheran the next week.  So what happens? Linfield comes to UWW in the playoffs and limits the Hawks to 10 points over the first 47.5 minutes of the game!

Certain teams rise to a new level during the playoffs! UW-W and Mount Union always seems to.  Linfield seemed to in 09 and may well again this year.

I saw Wara 2x this year. Against Central, he looked quite accurate (17-25 or ~68% completion, 241 yds, 3 TDs and 0 INTs) while against UWW he looked quite inaccurate (17-33 or ~52% completion, 148 yds, 0 TDs and 2 INTs). I am 100% aware that UWW's defense is much more stout than Centrals, but if you were at the game (and many of you were) you would have seen Wara plain missing some of his receivers...even short routes with high % of completion. Running with Wara simply may have been a product of how teams were playing defensively against UWO this season versus last season.
Just my .02 cents

I agree. Wara was missing passes that were short, and to wide open guys that would have gone for many yards. Was he nervous? Did he feel the heat coming for him? We remarked that the game may have been much different if he was even close on half of those bad misses.

I hope they roll.  I've got a lot of respect for the Linfield program and met some great fans in '09.  Who knows, maybe the Cats will come to Wisconsin once again this year! I have a feeling if UW-W wins their last game against LaCrosse, they will be headed to the North Region (Or more accurately, the North Region will be headed through UW-W.  ;)).

KitchenSink

Just playing out a hypothetical thought here ....

I'd like to see a North Central-Mount Union match-up in the North region.

That would suggest a possible UWW-Linfield or St Thomas match-up in the West region final.

Not trying to disrespect the South or East, but those two games in the third round could be awesome.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

I guess it's just a personal preference thing for me- I'm not a fan of offenses that run the QB a lot.  I love a qb that can scramble, but Wara leads Oshkosh with 130 rush attempts (53 more than #2 rusher)- along with 205 pass attempts.   Was his accuracy impacted by the # of times he was running the ball and taking hits?  Hard to imagine it wouldn't be.

Emma,
I agree with this.  I think you make a good distinction between a scrambling quarterback (and I'm thinking primarily pocket passer that has the athletic ability to pull it down and run as opposed to a Fran Tarkenton type that just runs all over back there) and a run-first QB in which there are THAT MANY design QB runs. I also can't imagine it not making a difference in his accuracy.  I understand Wara is an excellent talent and I'm sure they really wanted the ball in his hands, but I think maybe 60% of the rushes he had may have been a good thing.  But I admit, it's very easy for me to look back and say that after the fact. if UW-O were 8-1 right now, we probably wouldn't even be having this conversation.

'02,

Nice job once again on the weekly match-ups. But I must take issue with one sentence. The Devils defense has been a little inconsistent?

Did you say "a little?"  ;D  Lots of good athletes, sometimes dominant.

Nice work and good reading. I think the game will be tight in Oshy, if the defense IS consistent.

emma17

In the new regional rankings UWW is sure in the mix of some tough company.  St Thomas, Linfield, Cal Lutheran and even Dubuque.  If the pairings come out the same, it will be another tough bracket to play through.  What doesn't kill you...
