Seems the opening of deer hunting season has carried over to this board, too.  Very quite considering round #2 of the playoffs is upcoming.

Maybe it's because Franklin College is in on saturday and UWW already beat them handily?  I don't know. It will be interesting how much FC has/hasn't improved since early in this season get together.  They haven't really been tested at any time consistantly throughout their conference schedule. But, they have a better idea what to expect. Their coach has to somehow get that 45-0 score out of his players conscience or it could get ugly again. Hopefully, the Warhawks continue to play aggressively on defense & create turnovers, protect Blanchard & score early and often on offense (with a defensive score or two mixed in for good measure), keep the penalties to a minumum, correct the FG kicking problem of last week, keep people fresh by substituting freely, getting more playing time for LC's freshman back-ups, etc. etc. etc. - did I miss anything?

No worries BoBo...It's only Monday, there's still plenty of time to talk about Saturday's game againt Franklin.

I find it hard to believe UWW will roll over Franklin like they did earlier in the year, 45-0. Since the Whitewater game they have been scoring a ton of points. I know they play in a conference that might not be as good as the WIAC. But, that's what good teams are suppose to do against lesser teams...score a ton of points and blow them out. Which is exactly what Franklin has been doing since September 10th.

Don't get me wrong, I still think UWW will win, but I don't think it will be the 45-point rout like earlier in the year.

02,

Agree, send some Franklin scouting reports since the Raiders get them for the 1st game in 2012! +k in advance for your efforts! ;D

Since the deer hunting opener was the major reason for the sparse crowd at the Perk last Saturday i suggest we have a "blaze orange out" at the Perk for Saturday's second round game vs. Franklin.  Students turned out for the "white out" and "black out" during the regular season - why not a "blaze orange out?"

A big thanks to Pat and GBMan for working late into the night figuring out a way to get my original game wrap added to the rest of them.  I don't know how you managed but somehow you did and your efforts are greatly appreciated.

The pleasure was all mine.

Are you serious?  I live 30 miles from a maniac with an itchy trigger finger w/ 1,000,000 soldiers, 1000's of multiple launch rocket systems and SCUD missiles (some possibly nuke tipped) and other assorted fun little toys pointed at us & you think I worry that the board is a little quite?  Oh my....just trying to dig my spurs into a few of you guys/gals.  I have to read the NWC, CCIW, and Wabash boards for fun but all the while doing this  :-X  because I'm a lover, not a fighter!!

Two things; first when it comes to creating turnovers I submit that some of the teams that have more are due to the competition they play and last year during the playoffs UWW stepped up the takeaways, especially against NCC and UMU.  Second, I think there are several more playmakers such as Ryan Cortez, Casey Casper, Jason Ford and Bernie Tamsett.

I also think the game planning and play calling improves during the playoffs.  While I know that UWW has a one game at a time philosophy,  I have witnessed the intensity and execution improvement over the last several years in the playoffs.  An example of this from the Albion game is the dramatic decrease in penalties taken by UWW.

Just a couple thoughts.

Agreed on every count.  Regarding playmakers, I limited it to three per unit because the number of players I was starting to list was getting ridiculous. Casper I did mention, but what about Wenkman, Minett, Menzel, Wismer, on on on....

As usual, great write up Bleed.
Regarding the upcoming game vs. Franklin, I would be surprised it Franklin takes many chances in the early part of the game.  As they learned in week 2 and as shown again vs Albion, early turnovers/mistakes vs UWW create a snowball effect most teams cannot recover from.  Although it's cliche for a team to want to keep a game close into the 4th quarter, I would think Franklin will worry more about field position than making a play on 3rd and long situations.  They will force UWW to sustain offensive drives to put up points-which has been a bit tougher this season.

Yes, I have DMZ Balls  ;)...but I don't have DMZ golf balls!!  Do they sell them at the gift shop inside the Officers Club, where the "Merry Mad Monks of the DMZ," as they call themselves, hang out in Camp Bonifas? I saw the hole that Sports Illustrated, in 1988, called "The most dangerous golf hole in the world," (it's no longer there). It was surrounded by live mine field "bunkers" and communist north Korea on three sides. Never got a chance to play it, and I'm not sure who, if anyone, ever did.  But it was an interesting talking point for the E-2's & E-3's who conducted the tours to Conference Row, the axe murder site and the "Bridge of No Return." The DMZ has always given me the creepest feelings of all the places I've been to in the world.

Clipped this off another board today:

QuoteWell, UWW has Franklin who they already beat 45-0. They have nothing to discuss but deer hunting and DMZ Balls.

I think you are probably right on Franklin's approach.  Another telling down will be fourth down. I have been surprised at teams who are playing UW-W pretty well get impatient on a fourth and short instead of playing field position and attempting to pin the Warhawks back with a punt.  Moments like that can be revealing about the mindset of the opposition.

Lest anyone thinks a Franklin win is IMPOSSIBLE, given the results of the first game, Marquette's basketball team went down to the last minute in beating Norfolk State last night.  Two weeks ago, the (ahem) WARRIORS , beat the same team by 31.

Blanchard among Gagliardi Trophy finalist.

that's outstanding he's one of the finalists, but he's in a tough field. I'm thinking either Zweifel or Tanney will take the Gagliardi Trophy home.
