What to expect from the Franklin Grizzlies.

This one might be a bit of a shoot out if their offense can get into a rhythm.

KitchenSink

What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Blanchard among Gagliardi Trophy finalist.

Blanchard, and not Coppage??  Interesting .....

I don't think Coppage meets one of the three standard prerequisites....if you know what I mean.

KitchenSink

That would explain it ...... (a bit of a shame, though)

Nice write up 02. I sure hope this game doesn't play out like the 07 game vs NCC- I was at that game and as I recall, the game was closer/more worrisome than the score would indicate.

I am very interested to see Franklin's offensive strategy Saturday. I know it's unusual for a team to "change what got them there", but in this case I just don't see them trying to attack UWW in their typical air assault. I see shorter passes and draws with an occasional shot down the sideline. Sitting in the pocket and/or throwing intermediate depth passes invites UWW's strength to participate- and that normally spells doom in the playoffs.

I agree....I would think they would have to change something up offensively. Maybe a slightly different style of offense that the whiteawater coaching staff has film of.

I hope it's exactly like the 07 NCC game.  ;)

That's a pretty big "if".  IMO, the Warhawks defense will be too physical for Franklin. The UW-W defense went to a different level last week.  I know Franklin is stronger than Albion, but they lack the balance to consistently move the ball or do much scoring against the Warhawks.  The Grizzlies averaged 1.5 yards per carry against UW-W, 2.2 yards per carry against Thomas More last week, and 0.8 yard per carry against Mount St. Joseph.  On the other side of things, UW-W ran for over 300 yards against the Griz in the first game of the year.  If the Warhawks have that kind of success again, it will severely eat up the clock and limit the number of Franklin possessions.

Blanchard among Gagliardi Trophy finalist.

that's outstanding he's one of the finalists, but he's in a tough field. I'm thinking either Zweifel or Tanney will take the Gagliardi Trophy home.

I was thinking the same thing. But this is a pretty stellar field this year however it comes out

Remember when Justin Beaver had that monster year as a soph and many thought he would win based on that alone. An unheralded QB from Alma or one of those Michigan schools (I forget which one) won. He wasn't even the best QB in the country that year. Taught me that's it's as much about off the field accomplishments as it is about on the field accomplishment. Don't be surprised if someone else wins - this is not the HT. That being said, it would be nice to see Zweifel win the trophy.   ;)

I'm also surprised that there is no candidate in the finalists from the south or west.

Well said WarhawkDad.  He is a great athlete and leader and a winner no matter whom the voters select.

Gagliardi Trophy is not a popularity contest like the Heisman? You have to do something besides play great football to get it?

I hope Blanchard gets it. There is much to be said about a kid that plays and wins on multiple National Championship teams. His leadership skills are primed for a great adulthood life like few others.
