Will the lousy weather affect Salisbury? Don't running teams prefer bad weather? Although the Hawks had little trouble last week in the constant rain....so, it is what it is...

Borland will have the team ready with the right schemes. They will just have to be disciplined and keep their assignments. This will be The Gull's first experience with a competent defense.

I wish I could watch the game in person, its going to be a good one!

It will also be interesting to see how Salisbury handles mid-30's with a rain/snow mix on Saturday?!

Very interesting indeed. The mid-30's fine, been there, done that. But rain/snow, idk :-\

Running teams do like the bad weather. "Option teams dread it." Also, Salisbury plays at least two to three competent defenses a year (Wesley being one of those with the Route 13 Rivalry). Nevertheless, great game to watch.

On another note. How do I get to Whitewater by plane (What is the nearest airport and do I have to catch a taxi from the airport, I do not have a clue.)

Flying into milwaukee might be your best bet. Then it is an hour drive west from there. You can try to find flights into Madison, but the drive from there isn't much better. Plus Madison is a smaller airport, so it might be hard to find flights.

As you drive closer to Whitewater, you'll see why there is no airport close to there.... ;)

Since I've only seen two UWW games this year, my observations may not be as valid as other's, but I'll weigh in anyway. It might also be that the comparison is actually more accurate, since it is a comparison of past teams with this one, not tainted by purple glasses.

It appears that this iteration of UWW defense is not as domonating as the past two - four. However, they still are very good at not giving up the big play. I'm not sure how these two things work against the type of offense that the Gulls run, since it wouldn't appear to be a big play offense anyhow. The two things in UWW's favor are the familiarity with that type of "O" (UWRF), and the excellent execution they have exhibited.

I'm more interested in the hoped for matchup on 12/10, but I hope to be at both games to see if my prediction of the fall of one or both "Purple Powers" comes to pass.

Your plane or a commercial plane?  There sure is a beautiful private runway alongside Highway 12- 20 mins away.

Rain or Snow is B A D for option teams. Not only because of the pitches, but the ball is exposed quite a bit w first read- requiring extra care.

The standard reaction when talking about defending the option is to talk about crushing the QB. The fact is, if it was that easy, the teams that still run it wouldnt be able to. Every offensive coach knows the DE or LB wants to crush his QB and they also know corners will come up and safeties will rotate. This will be a chess match and IMO, won't be won by UWW based on athletes alone.

If you're flying commercial you might also check out rates into Rockford.  It's a little further away but whether you fly into Madison, Milwaukee or Rockford you'll probably need to rent a car.  Unless you want to pay cab fare for a 40-60 mile one way trip.

Similarities between Wisconsin-Riverfalls and Salisbury. ??? There are no similarities.  Also, just check it...will cost me at least $300 either flying or driving to get from D.C. to Whitewater, WI :'(.

SUADC, do you know if Madd Midget is going too?...He is my man over in the "cheap seats"!...I just can't afford to go this weekend...
Anyway, comment for the game- I have been following SU for a long time and the option is very tough to execute in bad weather, especially in wet conditions. Turnovers can sometimes haunt the option in good weather, so bad weather almost assures a few fumbles.  UWW is the defending nat'l champ for good reason, and I don't like our chances saturday. With that said I know the SU staff has the players believeing and they will do everything they can to give UWW a game. I hope I am wrong, but I think our run ends here. Go Gulls!

Reagent, I humbly disagree with you. UWW's defense got healthy about three games ago and has meshed extremely well in the playoffs.  A big part is having Arnold back.  For those making a comparison based upon the Oshkosh game should know that he was out for that game.

The defensive front is just as deep as it has been in the past and very athletic.  In fact I expect Loussaint and Casey to have excellent games given their athleticism.

Looking forward to Saturday!

I'm not sure I read anyone saying that it would be EASY to hit the QB. What I believe is that it is IMPORTANT! If that kid is left alone and not accounted for consistently, he will take it himself until he is stopped.  I agree that game planning and preparation will be paramount, but I am just as confident in the coaching staff's ability to win the "chess match" as I am confident the players have the ability to execute the game plan.

I also very much question Salisbury's ability to stop the UW-W offense. Last week they allowed 283 yards (at 6.1 ypc over 45 attempts!) rushing to Kean.  Kean gained all of 36 yards rushing in 26 carries against Wesley earlier this year and only 95 yards on 27 attempts against Christopher Newport in the first round of the playoffs. I expect Coppage to do major damage, the Hawks to control the ball, and Salisbury to have to play from behind much of the day.  This game could be the fastest game of the year in terms of real time.

So your glasses may not be purple tinted, but they are tinted nonetheless, eh Retagent?  ;)

I believe you picked the wrong year to predict a purple demise, but it will be fun to find out!   :)

I believe you may have misunderstood regarding the River Falls-Salisbury option connection. Presently, you are correct that there are no similarities. River Falls runs a spread offense. What was being said is that River Falls, not too many seasons ago, was a triple option team and very successful at it. The 2011 Salisbury team, throwing the ball 90+ times this season, would be classified as "pass happy" compared to the Falcons in their heyday. They did nothing but run the ball; one season, I believe, they attempted something like 10 pass for entire season. I believe the point of the comment was the fact coaches like UWW DC Brian Borland have studied the option offense extensively - and it will be interesting how he and his colleagues game plan for this saturday (IMO). I didn't read the comments made to mean River Falls and Salisbury were similar.

BoBo hopes the Whitewater offense is able to move the ball on the Salisbury staunch defense. Bobo wonders if the Warhawks will be able to throw the ball in inclement weather. Bobo is concerned that badgerwarhawk, 02 Warhawk and probably emma17 are all possibly worried to varying degrees. Bobo is worrried that the Salisbury fans coming to the Perk may have to parachute out of their airplane in the vacinity of The Perk (or face a long and expensive taxi ride). Bobo finds WarhawkGuard's sense of humor refreshing. Bobo thinks WarhawkDad just tells it like it is. BoBo feels bleedpurple and footballfan413 are as sharp as a tack can be. BoBo knows retagent is full of it!!  ;)  +k to all those mentioned, including the SU guys.
