I just watched the video Voice posted with Mark Rosen of WCCO interviewing the Saint Thomas coach and their center.. The dude is huge!! And the clip of their game last week, it looks like they are a "big" team.....We will have our hands full.... But they will too...

The bigger they are, the harder they fall!!

Interesting thing about that: Caruso was a d3 center too although he looks almost tiny compared to his player.

Yeah, Caruso is MUCH smaller than he was in college. I know a guy in Grand Forks that played center for UND's 2001 Division II National Championship squad, and he's about half the size he was back then too, AND running 10Ks. It's weird to see.

I get the distinct feeling that I'm the butt of some folderol here.

Keep in mind that in 2006, St John's had a lead in the second half, and fell 17 - 14. If my memory serves, other than the mighty UMU, that was the closest game in the last 7 year Playoff run UWW has had. I would take UST as a formidable opponent based just on the year in - year out strength of the MIAC. They may not beat the Warhawks, but I think they are very capable of doing so, and that it would not be considered a big upset.

I think the several posts by UWWers discussing life after a loss indicates the respect for St T. I have no doubt St T could win this game.
That said, UWW has been in this exact situation so many times now- preparing for a team that was very capable (and sometimes favored) of beating them. So far so good.

We didn't get where we are by not considering opponents formidable.  If you've listened to the staff discuss them you'd think Albion could make a run at the national championship.  We take opponents seriously and we don't look past the next one regardles of whether it's St.Thomas or Lakeland.  St Thomas could win but if they do it will be because they outplayed us and not because we didn't take them seriously.

At my age, I don't expect my memory to serve me to well.  ;) We beat Willamette by only 3 points in 08, beat Linfield by only 3 points in 05 and beat UW-LaCrosse by only 3, 24-21, the week before that 06 game with the Johnnies.  Just pointing out that SJU isn't the only team to get close at play-off time besides Mount during this run.  These games speak not only to the strength of the MIAC and WIAC but to the overall strength of the West Region, IMHO. There are only 4 teams left standing for gosh sakes!!!  Of course, I worry about the Tommies and I think that the Raider fans should be concerned, as well, about the Wolverines.  As one of only 3 posters who picked Wesley to beat the Cru on Saturday, let me spell out 3 main reasons.  First, they have McSweeney who is absolutely lethal as a highly mobile, running/passing QB.  Remind you of anyone?  They have thrown for more total yards than they have run for!!!!  That is balance my friends.  Second, in the comeback I watched against UMHB, they showed a, "refuse to lose," attitude that was never there when we played them.  Third?  Did I mention McSweeney?  Now, the Tommies are also bringing a well-balanced team, (essential to keep playing this time of year,) to the Perk having run for 3066 total yards and thrown for 2682. I suspect that both teams will have success stopping the run and it will come down to who is able to execute a more efficient and turnover free passing game!  This is where I think we have the edge but concerned about the winning streak?  How could you not be?  Realistically concerned but optimistically confident in my beloved WARHAWKS! They will have no doubts and the game plan in hand to win.  Of that, I have no doubts.   8-)

There's a D3 angle on this Sandusky business after all:

02Warhawk,

In your write up of common opponents, That UST and UW-W played... You mentioned that we played River Falls at home... We played them AT River Falls... I was at that game ....

badgerwarhawk

I thought the same thing at first and almost PMed you, 02.  But after reading it a couple of times I realized you were talking about River Falls being on the road and at home and not STU or WW.   Nice writeup.  Thanks for making the effort.
