One thing is for sure. If the Warhawks win the National Championship, they will have done it right through the front door the hard way.

Winning the WIAC undefeated, having to travel to Linfield, then playing the Mount in the Stagg.

Good luck Warhawks!

So, Mount Union did it through the Back Door because they had "control" of the seeding somehow? Just give it all a rest. You play who they put out against you and if you win it all you are the champ. Good luck to both teams.

Lighten up kirasdad. I took nothing away from Mount. Obviously, I was giving them credit. Tons of it.

The only mistake in my post is that I should have included the Warhawks playing St. Johns as part of the "front door"   as well.

My bad, I shoulnd't have posted so early. :)

IMHO WW should handily win this Saturday. They are obviously the top ranked team. They played significantly better competition in the playoffs, based on ranking. They play in arguably one of the toughest conferences, top to bottom.

When I saw them play , they were the most impressive team I have seen this year, one of top D3 I have ever seen. (I only wish I could have seen them play Linfield). They are very well balanced and seem very hungry.

That said, they still have to play the game. In 2003, no one from the D3 staff picked SJU to beat the mighty MUC (with the exception of OAS), but they did and decisively at that.
It will be interesting to see MUC handle the underdog role.

MUC has a phenominal football program, but programs don't win the games, teams do. I have no doubt MUC has a very good team and it will be a great game, but I don't see MUC pulling the upset. IMO WW took down the toughest opponent last week  in Oregon and will win by 2tds or more in the Stagg.

Good luck to both teams. WW, just continue to do what you have been doing. And keep it in the West.

Safe travels to all.

Thanks MyYak.

Tempted to pick MUC as the under dog as it worked in 2003.  But, I'm with you.  UWW is the better team and wins on Saturday by 10.

MyYak, that's a great post and interesting to see your perspective. Unfortunately, you should be waiting to here from other posters such as joelmama, hscoach and kirasdad to try and devour and spit out what you said.

Although a message board, nobody seems to be able to speak their opinion without someone jumping all over them. Whogets the last word? That's really all this is.

Let's see what we get from your post.

How did I know you'd be the one to post something like that kirasdad. No crying here. You actually emphasized my point brilliantly.

Hawks leave in one hour from Madison.

Pretty bad storms around here, hope they travel safe.

OU#25

First, I want to wish both teams well this weekend and hopefully it's a well played injury free weekend.

I am a Mount fan but realize the emotional high WW's on right now and there's no discounting their enthusiasm, confidence and great play this season.  Realisitically from my perspective... first and foremost is the coaching matchup between the schools and without question LK is the finest coach in D3 not only now but statisitcally ever.  That's a major factor in a national championship game.  I would say both offenses are comparable to one another but WW's offense has not faced the same caliber defense Mount will field on Saturday.  I believe Mount has faced defenses on more than one occasion which are superior to WW's this year.  If weather conditions such as wind which has routinely been a factor in past Stagg Bowls occurs this weekend then a portion of each teams offense will have to be reduced in order to accomodate the conditions.  Shortening the playbook or favoring the run vs. the pass plays directly into the hands of the team with the strongest defense and experience.  Certainly turnovers, injuries and karma can change the outcome of any contest however based solely on my opinion I see Mount winning 34-24.  I'm sure I'll receive negative reviews but that's just my opinion wilth all respect to WW.

OU:  Not gonna get negative on your or beat you up about anything but I would point out that UWW did play against St. Johns which has (statistically) a very strong Defense that is just behind MU in yards per game allowed and in the top 10 for scoring Defenses.  I would agree that Mt. U has probably played more high quality Defenses than UWW however but I do think that UWW knows how to play against good Defense.  Linfield's D was not in the very top of D3 but they were quite good (averaged giving up like 13 pts per game) and we saw what happened there.  I think the offenses are probably going to rule this game and as I've said before, I look for this to be more of an offense game both because these teams are strong on O but also because their D's create a lot of points!
Go Cats!

I think I need to address this point that keeps being made by SOME posters of teams the UWW has beat that, somehow, UWW didn't win the game but the other team lost it with turnovers and mistakes.  Now, I say some, because there were many posters from both SJU and Linfield as well as Pat Coleman that confirmed that a good defense earns turnovers and mistakes.   Most of the time, they don't just happen.  In four play-off games, UWW's defense has 16 interceptions and has forced 20 turnovers and have a plus-15 turnover margin.  I do believe that this may be the toughest defense MCU has seen this season.  As far as the defenses UWW has faced this year , SJU , Linfield and UW-Stout were no slouches!    As for the coaching issue, that can be a problem.  However, that was thrown at UWW when they played SJU and their legendary coach who by the way, is still the winingest coach in NCAA history, and they survived that coaching showdown.

footballfan413

Also,  most of the teams have great defenses until they play UWW.  The Hawks offensive balance is very hard to defend against.  You never know what is coming, run or pass, and it is very hard to defend against both for 4 quarters.

Note to self: Remember to set alarm clock tonight.

I think I'm all set.

Do you know if the WW team and coaches have arrived?  There is an ice storm for tonight and tomorrow.  I would feel better knowing that they are already here and at the hotel.  Are they at the Clarion or the other one.  Crud, I can't remember the other one at the moment.  Friday it's calling for sunny and mid 40's and Saturday the same so you should have pretty good travel weather here.  But there is 1 inch of ice due here tomorrow.  It's probably no big thing out there but it is a BIG DEAL here. Talking of power outages and all kinds of unpleasantness.  So I'm doubling up my baking tonight before anything untoward happens.  Coach Berezowitz says the players will like any kind of brownies I care to make, but I want them to have a nice selection so I need to get on the stick tonight!!  Anybody who knows the answer to my questions, feel free to answer me either by a post or personal message.  I would appreciate it.

Go Warhawks!!
