A lot of us have to be thinking about it, so I'll be the first to bring it up.

If UWW runs the regular season table in 2012, that will give them 55 wins straight...which will tie UMU for the longest winning streak in college football history (any division).

I know the team won't be looking ahead, but that's the beauty of these message boards. What ever gets said here doesn't determine the outcome of games. So we can get away with it.

It won't be easy to do, but it's very doable.

02,
What was Oklahoma's winning streak at back in the 50's that Notre Dame ended?? I thought it was longer then 55 games???

My allegiance to UWW has led me to Badger fandom. And now two disappointing Rose Bowl finishes in a row. I know the Badger pass defense was suspect all season, but I didnt know they'd be so inept at stopping the run. The Badgers need a philosophy more like UWW than they do the Packers.

Three close game losses this year may hint at an issue that WI football fans would prefer didn't exist.

Bielema stinks at clock and time-out management in close games.  He always has.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

02,
The only real obstacle for UWW in the regular 2012 season could be UW-Osh and QB Wara. Not sure how much they have returning or lose this year? :-\

I'm just greatful next year's game is at Whitewater.

UWO looks to return 6 on offense including 1 WR (SO), TE (SO), LG (SO), RG (JR), RT(JR), and QB (JR). They did have a backup RB who got more playing time at the end of the season (Cole Myhra - SO) who looked pretty good. The 1 returning WR is Caleb Voss, who was 3rd on the team in receptions, 2nd in yds, and 2nd in TDs. Some young players will get their opportunity to shine with the offensive passing attack UWO uses. 3 returning lineman is a positive sign but they do lose the LT who was a team captain.

UWO looks to return 5 on defense including 1 DE (JR), 2 LBs (JR/SO), 1 CB (JR), and SS (JR). They did have underclassmen who got reps on the D-Line last year as well as at LB (2 JR's on the 2-deep).

Placekicker returns. Punter will need to be replaced.

UWO does tend to play UWW better at home, no surprise. They average a 15 point loss at home and 25.5 point loss away since 2002 (last time UWO beat UWW).
2011 lost 17-20 at home
2010 lost 21-48 at home
2009 lost 7-40 at UWW
2008 lost 3-44 at home
2007 lost 14-26 at UWW
2006 lost 3-17 at home
2005 lost 7-36 at UWW
2004 lost 16-22 (OT) at home
2003 lost 6-34 at UWW
2002 won 21-20 at home (but later forfeited victory for ineligible use of a player)

Enough of this silence.
I'll start a 2012 outlook-prognostication thread.

I would not be surprised to see UWW with a higher scoring offense in 2012.  I know we are losing a great, great group of senior starters in Coppage, Blanchard, Allemand, Olson, Robinson and Ford.  My theory is this:  I believe there was more uncertainty in the offense for 2011 than in almost all of the 6 previous years given the change over in the offensive line and receiver corp.  I believe the uncertainty led to a greater degree of conservative play calling, especially given the play making ability of Coppage and Blanchard.  In effect, I think the always looming "big play" possibility of Coppage along with Blanchard's ability to pick up first downs via the run led to fewer chances taken on the offense.  Granted, Huber had his share of big plays and TD's, but I'm convinced he could have had monster numbers if it was in the game plan.  I also think the other receivers are really, really good and could have also had big numbers.  But again, the presence of Coppage and Blanchard fed into the staff's desire to limit turnovers and win field position (which I am not complaining about).

In 2012, the big play ability of Coppage will be gone as well as the athleticism of Blanchard.  I believe the offense will likely be more diverse.  As such, I believe we will see more points scored because this team has a lot of talent with a pretty good core of Olinemen coming back- and a defense that is young and fast.

OK, Ill play.  You all know how much I hate silence.   ;) The travel/clean up of the holidays has finally slowed down so I'm back!   ;D Hope the 17 clan and everyone had great holidays and a Happy and Healthy New Year is coming your way.
So hard to speculate on what is the driving force behind the offensive make-up of the last 7 Stagg Bowl teams when one looks at the stat sheets.  I just spent the last 45 minutes trying to find patterns, tendencies and dot connecting, etc. and I am not sure what it told me with any consistency.  During these runs, we have had 3 different offensive coordinators, 4 very talented but different styled QB's, basically 2 outstanding RB's and a consistently great OL and WR corp and DEFENSE.  Re-loading not re-building has become the norm...............so far.  Yes, the play making ability of Blanchard and Coppage will be very hard to replace but we can't forget that before Coppage was a guy by the name of Justin Beaver, who in my opinion was just as good and in some ways better, because his size/strength gave him the ability to be a power back when needed AND be incredible elusive in the open field.  Of the 4 QB's we have had, two were much more the pure pocket passers, Jake and Jeff, and two, Matt and Danny Jones, were both run/passing threats.  Interesting stat I found was that, while Matt had 96 attempts running this season gaining 452 yards with his feet, DJ had 158 attempts in 07 with a net gain of 395.  So our QB run threat in 07 was even more a part of our offense than this season with Matt, believe it or not.  And let's not forget the huge play making ability of a Jacobs to Stanley hook up!  The 05/06 teams were offensive machines putting up huge numbers consistently against most of their opponents but because they lost the Stagg, I think people tend to forget just how potent their offenses really were.  And the 05 team especially, put up numbers so high and fast that the starters were on the bench for most of the 2nd half many games. Anyway, based on the past 7 season performances, the thing that remains the most consistent to me is the great OL play and a great DEFENSES that get the opponent off the field quickly and ours back on to do what they do best, score points with a, for the most part, balanced approach. In 2011, the Warhawks scored 515 points and with the exception of 2007, (489,) that was the lowest total points scored in the 7 year run.   That stat alone tells me that, chances are, we could see more points scored in 2012 but it won't be necessarily because of big changes in personnel or offensive strategy but, because from a purely stat perspective, 2011 was a down year in terms of total point scored.

413,

UWW needs to find that "big play" WR ( ala, Garcon/Shorts), which will be a plus for 2012, just 2 cents
worth! :) :) :) +K

Ya, cuz those kind of players come around all the time!   Actually, I think the Raiders need that more than we do.  We haven't had an NFL caliber WR since Derek and it hasn't stopped us the last few years.   ;) :D ;D

I'm not so sure that we don't already have that "big play" receiver in Huber.  Sure he's not Garcon or Shorts, those guys are playing Sundays, but Huber is already showing signs of being the "big play" guy.  If he improves as much between this year and next year as he has from last year to this year he's going to be very good.  I'm not saying he's going to be a Sunday player but he's going to be even more of an offensive threat than he is and he's already a significant threat.

But for discussion's sake let's say he's not a "big play" guy.  While it would be nice to have that in our offense I'm not sure that it's essential.  Our staff is on record as feeling that this year's receiving corps from top to bottom as a group was perhaps the best we've had in our seven year run.  With the exception of Robinson they all return so I'm not really very concerned at all about our receivers.  If Brekke can get the ball to them they'll be just fine.

And I think our defense will be ridiculously good.  I can hardly wait to watch them.

413,

Good point, but the Raiders need better play at the QB level first!

BTW, I heard a small piece of info that another top WR may be coming to Alliance! We'll see if that happens! :)

Read where Wisconsin is in need of some assistant coaches since they will lose a few! Is the Warhawk nation worried at least a little? :-\
