UWW finished 5th in the Directors Cup. Best in school history, tied for the best in WIAC history.

Not a bad showing for WIAC schools all around.

I've always felt these directors cup standings to be a bit misleading. UWO had one of the worst years in it's athletic history this year and yet is ranked 17th on the backs of its Track and Field/Cross Country programs. Also with 2 National Champs and several other appearances and just overall dominance by UWW this year specifically 5th seems low. Hard to believe they aren't at least top 3. That's the way it goes I guess.

Yea, a lot of NESCAC schools jump up the standings because sports like Rowing, Field Hockey, Skiing, Women's Hockey. But they did score well in basketball and baseball, though.

I'm looking forward to the UWW golf outing this Friday- any readers planning on attending?
Food, beer and football talk instead of a day in the office.
My better half and a certain handsome Ex-Warhawk LB will be playing in the outing.  I'll tell them to look for you and give you a big hug from me.   ;) ;D

Great- I'm looking forward to seeing them. I'll have to figure out a way to remember I'm hugging two men and not you  ;D

The facial hair should take care of that for you.
LOL- good point.
I have a powerful imagination but I'm confident the presence of facial hair - especially red facial hair, will slap it into reality.

With a beautiful venues like Whitewater Creek and/or the Bark River I've always wondered why we don't offer men and/or womens rowing.  ???

Not much facial hair these days.  Been student teaching and job interviewing.  BTW, I am trying not to be offended that, somehow, you need to use facial hair as a point of reference in this situation.  ;) :D ;D

I was sure that the 3rd National Championship for the girls gymnastics team would put them over the top but then, I realized that they are not, technically, DIII.   >:(

The hook is you get to count up to 9 men's sports and 9 women's sports. So obviously if you have 13 or 14 sports in each gender your top 9 sports has a much better chance to score higher than a school who only has 9 sports (or maybe fewer) in each gender. It's like being dealt a five-card hand of poker and playing against a guy who gets seven cards.

Yet another reason why the NESCAC should move up to DII!!   ;)

There's that, plus the real killer: all sports (regardless of number of schools participating) are scored the same!  Thus UWW winning the Stagg, or my IWU Titans winning the women's bball tourney, received the same 100 points as whoever won skiing, rifle, or fencing (all of 30? participating schools).

The Directors' Cup is a noble idea, but fatally flawed in its scoring.  The winning schools will ALWAYS be the big budget schools (NESCAC always has 4 or so in the top 10; WashU finished #2 this year.)  Given the scoring, hearty congratulations to UWW for hitting the top 5 (and Kudos to IWU, who only fields 9 teams for each gender, for managing #12).

Just Bill

True enough. I recall UWSP finishing fourth one year, and the general consensus was that's about as well as a WIAC school can possibly do given the number and type of sports we generally have.

Greetings.
Have not followed the board the last couple months, so is there fear the 2 game WIAC round robin, or whatever the heck the budgets want to call it, is going to effect SOS this year?

Good news D O.C., no need to worry because you didn't miss the SOS discussion during your absence from the board.  ::)

WELCOME!!  It's good to have you back.  ;)

I guess it might effect it like it did last year...it is only June, but what are your thoughts on this important issue?

This will be the last year of the conference mandated out of conference game against a conference opponent.  Next year everyone is on their own.  However that doesn't mean that individual programs can't schedule each other.  As we all know that has been done in the past.

I don't see why it won't impact SOS in a manner consistent with the past.

I want to take a minute to thank everyone who visited me over the past couple weeks following my colon cancer surgery at Fort  Atkinson Memorial Hospital.  A special shout out to D3football.com chat room veteran Badger Warhawk for his hospital visit... thanks John!!!

I'm now home after being discharged from the hospital on Saturday.

I now face an initial round of radiation treatments.

I'm planning on spending the summer writing on Warhawkfootball.com and Voiceseyeonfootball.blogspot.com with my primary job of being a good patient with a great attitude and work hard to get better.
