I counted 15 underclassmen from 2011 not listed on the 2012 preseason roster, most notable WR/Returner Shane Covington, RB Colton Sweitzer, & LB Jared Borland. Other 12 (8 were '11 freshman) didn't garner much playing time if at all last season. Have to check out rosters to see if they transferred, are injuried or maybe they just decided not to play.

Shane Covington left the program last year so I'm not surprised to see he isn't listed.  Besides didn't he exhaust his eligibility?  I don't think it's unusual to lose some freshman who didn't play last year.  Borland's absence surprises me though.  He transferred here from a Michigan D2 and played extensively last year.  Obviously he would have been a major player in the linebacker rotation this year.  Throw in the family connection with his father and I just don't see him transferring or deciding not to play.  I wonder if he might be injured in some way?

Thanks for taking the time to put all that together BoBo.

Zdanewicz, Cheesbro, and Grayvold are all transfers from Northern Michigan, curious to see if it had to do with the switching of coaching staffs

I didn't include him (Grayvold) on my lists because we had already known about him some time ago - or he had made a public announcement that someone had discovered and posted prior. None of them had a great deal of playing time at NMU last year.

Do you think Blanchard's success at UWW had something to do with their transfer, as well (he started at NMU)?  NMU has become a good AAA club for the Warhawks!!

I thought Cheesbro has a great name for playing in Wisconsin.

This might be the heir apparent to the Beaver-Coppage-?? line of RB's:

Josh Williams

Chicago Tribune  Illinois 2011 All-state 1st team selection

I think they were trying to make a loud statement with the first play of the video highlights!!

This was the one name I looked for first on that freshman list. So glad UWW was able to recruit him!!

Plus it looks like it's official. John Miech is now a Warhawk coach. Unreal...

Both Covington and borland appear on the Starters Lost list on the media guide.

Nope, I found him on the roster at Carthage.

Good for Brent.  The best of luck to him.  A.J. had considered applying for a coaching position at Carroll this summer after he accepted a teaching position at Waukesha STEM Academy in June teaching 8th grade math.  He decided, instead, to stick to HS for now and will be an assistant defensive coach for the Waukesha South Blackshirts alongside Ex-Warhawk WR, Aaron Rusch.  It was so hard to leave the Janesville Cougars but he needed a job close to where his wife teaches in Mukwonago and is extremely excited for his new opportunity with, "The Shirts."  Going to take some time to get use to that.........  ;)
So great to see these young men sharing their football knowledge with the next generation.

Yes, I've already been given a heads up for it but the daughter-in-law teaches at a middle school there so it won't be as dramatic as you might think.  I was told not to miss the Arrowhead stadium, as well.  ;)  As with the Cougars, he enters a program which posted only one win last season but he is thrilled with the challenge and the opportunity to help out the program in any way he can.

Great info on the recruits Bobo- thanks.
Josh certainly was one of the primary rumor recruits- he comes from the same conference as Coppage- and appears to be about the same size.  He even had a similar injury his junior year of HS,which is what may have prevented him from getting a full ride.  He is All State in IL's class 8A- our largest schools- so he played against some solid competition.   Let's hope he stays healthy with UWW.
