5. Oshkosh's year to knock off Whitewater?
---------------------------------------------------------
Déjà vu all over again...

...I'm sorry, but some of you guys come up with this one every year.  :o This has become so cliché.

Of course, the law of averages will eventually turn in your favor - it's just that the whole idea has lost it's luster.

I think it was emma that lead the Oshkosh parade last year. And I was one of the many that rolled my eyes at him. But I'll tell you.....I quickly became a believer after attending that UWO/UWW game in Oshkosh last year. With the star power that UWO has returning, they can make another strong run at the warhawks. I think either UWO or UWP has the best chance to put an end to UWW's streak this regular season.

I appreciate the feedback....and you're right it has become a cliche on when UWW will lose again, and it has lost some luster. But I'm just trying to keep an open mind on when uww comes back down to earth.

I think you need to check who they lost and who they have returning because, IMO, they lost a lot more than you think:

Other than Wara, who is the star power?

They are returning six All-WIAC players from last season, including the best player in the WIAC this year (Nate Wara), imo. Only two other programs in the WIAC are returning more than Oshkosh (UWW and UWP). You're right they are losing a good chunk of last year's team...but so is Whitewater. But UWW can prove they can reload, where as UWO hasn't shown that yet.

Oshkosh does have 6 returning all-conference players; 2 defense and 4 offense.

1st team - Taylor Goodman, Oshkosh, Junior, Linebacker
2nd team - Nate Wara, Oshkosh, Junior, Quarterback
2nd team - Cole Myhra, Oshkosh, Sophomore, Running Back
2nd team - Andrew Thompson, Oshkosh, Junior, Defensive Line
HM - Caleb Voss, Oshkosh, Sophomore, Wide Receiver
HM - Brandon Peter, Oshkosh, Junior, Offensive Line

They return 5 starters on defense. They graudated 3 of 4 starting DL, 1 of 3 LBs and 2 of 4 DBs.
They return 6 starters on offense. They graduated 2 of 3 WRs, 2 of 5 OL, and both RBs. Return QB and TE.

Looks like DL and WR are the two positions of most turnover that need guys to step up.

Lovie Smith on how much playing time the starters will get in tomorrow's preseason game:

QuoteOur front line guys won't play a lot. I can tell you that. We want to get a look at some of those second and third players.

In other words...we should see Blanchard get reps tomorrow.  :)

I can't believe that tomorrow night's Denver at Chicago preseason game isn't going to be televised nationally. For you Matt Blanchard fans in the Chicago and State Line area of Northeastern Illinois and Rock, Walworth, Kenosha and Racine County region of Southern Wisconsin, the game will be televised live on WIFR TV 23 - Rockford, IL and WFLD – Fox 32 Chicago, IL.  The NFL Network is also airing the game on a tape delay basis at 11 p.m. Thursday and again at 10 a.m. Friday.

For Bronco fans, check your local listings.

BTW -my Warhawkfootball.com correspondent, Josh Smith, will be travelling down to Bears training camp Saturday and Sunday. You can plan on full coverage including an exclusive interview with  Matt Blanchard on Mpnday in the Daily Jefferson County Union and on Warhawkfootball.com

Cutler may not play at all with the birth of his son today so might be even a bigger chance for more playing time for the Bears #4.......Pound the Rock.....

That LaCrosse commercial was very, very well done. Perhaps they hire that firm at UWW so they can make one that really shows who is on top of the country today?

NFL Game Pass from NFL.com gets you every game, from pre-season through the Super Bowl and Combine, plus a whole lot of other neat stuff etc. You don't have to worry about what game is playing in your area or nationally. You get every game. I know I'll be watching on Fri am here.

BTW, what are your thoughts on tonight being the first game in NFL history in which a woman will officiated in the NFL?

Shannon Eastin is a replacement line judge who will make her NFL debut in night's Packer/Charger exhibition game at San Diego.

Ok, so it won't necessarily be the experience of your lifetime but it should be fun none the less.

Zero issue with a woman officiating. If she has the skills and knowledge, no problem. I do think it'd be tough for most women to officiate as an umpire in the college game, just given the inevitability of getting knocked around by a lineman or linebacker at some point.

And I do think the best officials, in any sport, tend to be those who are former players. Doesn't mean someone who never played basketball, football, etc. can't be a good official, but the learning curve is a lot steeper. The instincts take time to develop and are much more natural if you've played a given sport. But there's also plenty of former players who make horrible officials, so go figure!

Huge issue with replacement officials. Roger just looks like a massive hypocrite at this point. A multi-billion dollar industry squabbling with officials over what amount to pennies. After championing 'player safety' for the last several years he's going to let these replacement guys officiate games?!? The job they did at the HoF Game was a joke. Got the opening coin toss wrong, and it just got worse from there. Officials are integral to player safety. If the commish really cared about this as much as he says he does, he'd pay the officials and make sure the best were on the field.

Ok, rant over  :D

Cutler didn't start, so I'd say there's a good chance for Blanchard I'd say.

His second play he completes his first pass.

Bears as a team are getting smoked 24-0.

Led the bears to a FG  3-24.  6-6 passing, but sacked on third down resulting in the FG attempt.
