Congrats to Mount Union, they played solid. Congrats to the Warhawks on a great season, they fell a few minutes short in this one. Great game nontheless. They'll be a handfull next season with a lot of players coming back.

I'm with 79jaybird on his announcers comment. It seemed like they crammed in an all night session for this game. I do give them props for mentioning the game vs. UW-La Crosse.

Anyone else notice at halftime during the interview when they put up 'Miles Brand' on the screen?

I just wanted to congratulate Beaver on breaking a rushing record that took him 15 games to break while the original record was set in just 10.

Great game Warhawks! Beaver is the real deal. I was impressed with your entire team. It would not surprise me to see both of these teams meet for the title next year.

For those of you who predicted a Whitewater blow out I'll chock that up to no experience playing Mount in a title game.

Dear Warhawk Nation,

I was proud to be a part of the Warhawk Nation this afternoon in Salem.  I had a blast.  When I got to Stone Station, footballfan413 was already there to greet me and we had a zillion WW football enthusiasts  for lunch.  I wish that I had been better prepared by having all the brownies already cut up, but one has only so much time.  Next year, I'm going to have already cut up the brownies and put them in the boxes so I can schmooze with all of the people.  But it definitely looked like everybody was having a grand time!!!  The game could have turned out differently.  We were inside the 10 yd line twice, however, without capitalizing on those opportunities.  It was exciting to watch the explosiveness of Justin Beaver running.  I thought that the offense moved the ball extremely well, especially considering the defensive power on the other side of the ball.  It was an epic struggle.  What is most laudable is that WW kept fighting to the end.  This may have been their first appearance, but it certainly won't be their last, not by a long shot.  It was an honor to meet Coach Berezowitz after the game.  I had just asked and found out that the people sitting 2 rows in front of the Stone Station crew on the 50 yard line were his personal fan club (i.e. his family)  all done-up in tie-dyed purple shirts.  Beyond cool!!

Kudos to Llamaguy and Skoaltrain for the wonderful chicken they barbecued for the great tailgate before the game.  There was a steady stream of WW and Mount Union fans there.  It was a great time.  Of course, to me, anytime you can serve something chocolate and make somebody happy, it's a good time.

I want to thank Coach Berez and the players for the sweatshirt that is presently in a trunk on a bus headed back up to Wisconsin, but I know I'll get it soon.  As purple is and has always been my favorite color, I can't wait.  I'll e-mail you Coach and give you my snail mail address.

I met so many nice people from Wisconsin today.  What a great atmosphere!  Thanks to Carey Harveycutter, his staff and all the volunteers for putting on a wonderful Stagg Bowl.  There is so much more than just the game and it always runs smoothly.  The professionalism that is exhibited by everyone makes me proud to be affiliated with an ODAC member school.

Sure hope that the players were enjoying the brownies. They looked like they were making short work of them  I was glad to be able to talk to some of the players and coaches.  They were very nice and cordial and just after a difficult loss, it showed the kind of character they have.  I was told that their plane doesn't leave Roanoke until 11:00 p.m.  If some nice person would put a post on the board when they are safely off the plane up in Wisconsin, I would really appreciate it.

I did get to meet Justin Beaver.  What an explosive runner!  It seems that he makes  2-3 yards after being hit, just carrying people, breaking tackles, whtever it takes.  He was great to talk to, already thinking ahead to next year and not dwelling on the past.  What a great, positive attitude.  He and the rest of the players as well, will go far with this type of attitude.  They represent you all very well.  It was a thoroughly wonderful day for me.  Thanks for all the compliments at Stone Station.  It's gratifying for people to enjoy what you do just for the fun of it and because some kids will be able to eat CHOCOLATE after the game!!  Chocolate is such a magical ingredient.  It conjures up all kinds of different thoughts and remembrances for every person,  Hopefully, now some will remember the "special" brownies.

The lack of sleep is finally catching up with me.  I'm going for a nap right now.  Happy trails.  Come again soon.  I know;  let's do this again next year, maybe with a different result?  What do you say?  All the best . . .

Didn't someone named Dan Pugh need 4 or 5 more games to break the D3 all-purpose yards record?

Congratulations, Warhawks, on representing the West well today. It was a great game to watch.

You're cool, Olinemom, and I'm sure your brownies were much appreciated. That's a lot of work.

JT, you are one bitter, bitter man. Don't be telling us to chill. We're doing just fine. You're the one with your panties in a wad. So we humiliated you last year. Get over it.

I agree that ESPN2's announcing team were clueless on many accounts.  They acted as though they were in-season pro's who know all about D-3.  I noticed it when they were running down each school's regular season.  That is part of the reason why I think the TV crew should be from a D-3 background.
Final Top5--  1) Mt. Union 2) UWWhitewater 3) Rowan 4) Linfield 5) Capital
I was impressed with the way Capital performed in the post season.
Besides Whitewater, who is predicted to give the Warhawks a run next year in the WIAC?

I posted this on Daily Dose and will continue my comment here...

As long as ESPN is covering the Stagg Bowl and bringing in its own broadcasters, expect the game to be treated like a foreign entity.  It is, and will continue to be, the only truly nationally televised D3 game of the season.  Would I like to be doing play-by-play, or Pat Coleman or Gordon Mann...sure...but we are realistic about it and relish the opportunity in the D3football.com/NCAASports.com.

The only thing we can ask for is this: whomever is broadcasting the Stagg Bowl treat Division III with respect.  That did not happen in 2004 for those who may recall...the Friday night preview where ESPN went around Salem asking people if they had any clue where Linfield or UMHB are located...treat D3 with respect and don't act as if we are some circus side show.  Do that, and I'm ok with their one-game intrusion to the market we cover so well...to the tune of almost, and maybe over. 4,000,000 hits this season.  We do it most, best, and only...they do it once.  From what I saw, Curry and Bender did that.

I also saw Curry on my flight from Roanoke to Charlotte tonight...and he was chatting amicably with Whitewater fans on the plane, and showing a picture to one of the WW fan's kids when they got off...and I don't think they had any real clue who he was.

Also from the Daily Dose:

Great Game UW-WW. I just got done moving and finally got my internet up at the new location. Heck of a game. Beaver was for real. Just glad the Raiders got it going after that first Q int and TD by the Warhaks.

Hopefully they'll keep you in the West again next year and we can do this again a year from now.

Congrats to a great season.

It seems to me, that the Linfield faithfull all week was......"we played a great game against the team that will easily win it all", therefore, we are #2".  You guys now seem to have short memories.

It's obvious who is #1, but we will say Capital is #2.  They gave us a much more competitive game than WW did.

So the final rankings should be:

MUC
CAP
WW
ROW
LIN

Shark

Just got home from the game. As a Raider fan, I'm proud of the performance by MUC today. It was going to take a great effort to win and they came up with it. LK and the boys are doing things that may never be duplicated again.

Congrats are in order to the Warhawks. That was a great team on the field today that just fell a little short. Always lots of key plays and turning points in a game this close. WW fan suport was also impressive.

Conrats to Justin Beaver! Ignore my classless comrade. Doesn't matter how many games games were involved. Beaver is the real deal and played like a champion.

Looking over those starting lineups for both team...the future is bright. Very few seniors and loads of talented underclassmen. The next few years should be interesting.

Merry Chistmas to all!

Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

Mr. Ypsi

Skunks,

I'm not a partisan of either side, but if LK was not sweatin' blood with 7 minutes left, he ain't human!  Not a competitive game??!!

With due respect to Capital, I predict the final standings will be:

1. MUC
2. WWW
3. Linfield
4,5 Rowan, Capital (either order)
6,7,8 SJU, UMHB, Wesley (whatever order)
9. ONU (they were the only team to beat MUC)

Great Season WW

It was a great ride and the future looks good with the team next year that can even be better.

It was nice to see Beaver break the rushing record, and he still has two years left.

It hurt to watch WW lay an egg in the 3rd quarter!! To get multiple chances in the red zone and come up with 0 points is painful. That is the determining stat of the game(if it was Mount Unions DFence that stopped or WW's Ofence that didnt convert, that is what won/lost the game)   Personally i would have wanted WW to run more on 1st and 2nd downs in the middle of the game, but i was just sitting in a Lazyboy in wisconsin, so im sure there was a reason for what they did.

Good Luck Next year Whitewater!!
Congrats Mount Union (We will get cha next year!!)
