I'm looking foward to my foray to Wisconsin this weekend for the Homecoming festivities At UW-Whitewater.  Please tell me it's not going to snow.  I know there was snow the other year at Salem, but honest it wasn't my fault.  I have to drive in from Milwaukee and I'm nervous about the white stuff.  Does the team have open practice
thursdays and Fridays?  I 'll be getting to Whitewater Thursday afternoon and would like to watch practice if it is possible.  That would keep me from going shopping too much though I must go to the bookstore and get tshirts for my brothers.  Their Linfield ones are getting ragged.   Hoping to see many of you at the tail-gating Saturday am and at the game.  I'll be the one in pink with the southern drawl.

Onlinemom was welcomed with open arms by the Warhawk football team and coaching staff on her arrival to Whitewater this afternoon..  O-Linemom was formally introduced to the team as she was brought up on the hill to join the offense in their weekly "pound the rock" post practice foray.  Midway thru the series of players getting their crack at the rock - Onlinemom was asked to take her turn slinging the maul at the rock. Being UWW's official Stagg Bowl grandma the past seven years she attacked the rock with the same tenacity as she does in the D3football.com West Region Chat Room.  The team plans to make O-Linemom's weekend in Whitewater extra special.

Voice,

If possible, could you send her over to where we tailgate? The area where Boyd, Bud, Fisher, hangout?

I expect this weeks game to be as close as last year.  Differences.....UWW defense is better, last year Arnold was hurt, the D struggled.  UWW offense, not as explosive.  UWO, defense similar to last year, but on offense, not sure Wara has the options he had last year.

2011 team put up 31, 17, 56, 42, 23 and 24 pts in first 6 weeks.
2012 team put up 47, 16, 70, 19, 50 and 34 pts in first 6 weeks.

In fact, offense has put up more points this season than last, so far. 3 of those games came against similar opponents.

Coach C has stated numerous times this is the best team he's coached (I'm sure there isn't any coaching bias there  8-))
WarhawkDad was talking about the Whitewater offense not being as explosive....  The numbers you gave are for UWO's offensive production.

I think oshfb just highlighted the wrong section. I believe he meant to highlight the part where WarhawkDad says "not sure Wara has the options he had last year."

You got it 02...my bad

The MVP of this offensive surge by UW-O has to be....the schedule maker.  UW-O has scored 43 more points than they did last  year at this point.  This year they scheduled Alma instead of Mount Union.  They scored 53 points more this year against Alma than they did against Mount last year.  Therefore, in the other games they have scored 10 points less than they did last year.

That is true about Mount --> Alma...good catch.  So they've scored on average 2 less points per game. I'd say the schedule maker putting UWO against Mount and Central (when they were strong couple years ago) has paid dividends as it did for UWW in early 2000's (2003 and 04 maybe?). Great job schedule maker.

Oh, and I don't care how many points the Titans put up this week as long as it is more than UWW  ;D

Agreed.  The bolded part, NOT the part about the Titans putting up more points than UW-W!  ;)

New to this guys, pardon me, but with all this anxiety over Saturday at WW...I have to ask, what are your predictions...what is going to be the difference maker come Saturday? I personally think the UWO defense will make or break them and with what I have seen, it will make them..... Two days away!!!!

Gee GunSlinger......are you looking for bulletin board material? ;D  If you would go back and look at this board the week prior to last year's game you would see the same anxiety (to use your word).   I prefer the word respect.  We respect what Oshkosh has done over the last several years and are looking forward to the game.   Now when it comes to my friend 02Warhawk, he just flat out worries, regardless  8-) 8-)

So will we see you at the game on Saturday?

Didn't mean to offend but the defense has been one of the main reasons for the fast start for UWO...both Ds are very solid and I really can't see either team putting up 21+.  I plan on coming down from the job to attend this one for sure...wouldn't miss this matchup, especially after last year's close game.

UW-W 20
UW-O 10

The biggest difference maker will be UW-W's ability to run on the Titans. I know (in spite of my words) this will surprise many people, but in watching UW-O, they give up yards on the ground.  I know they are ranked #2 in the WIAC in rushing yards.  They are good and fast and physical, but they are not impenetrable.  The running backs for the last three teams they played (conference play) have all averaged at least 4 YPC against the Titans.  If the UW-O cannot stop the UW-W power run game, the Warhawks (who lead the WIAC in time of possession) will take the air out of this game, limiting Wara's possessions and wearing down the UW-O defense by midway through the fourth quarter.

On the other side of the ball, the comfort level for UW-O is to run the ball 65% of the time.  UW-W has allowed 18 rushing yards in 67 attempts for the past 3 games.  I know Wara is a different kind of threat and may be able to move the chains and help the running stats some for the Titans.  But UW-W will present him a special challenge because of the superior speed and strength of their front seven.  UW-O will likely be forced out of the desired run/pass ratio, which increases the odds of a rare Titan turnover.

Field position will be huge in this game. The UW-W punters are stellar and this is not an area UW-O excels.  The return of Zach Howard for UW-W is a huge boost to a return game that had been lacking.  For whatever reason, UW-O doesn't even appear to try to return punts.  Although their opponents have punted 43 times, they have only returned four of them.

The keys for UW-O will be to run successfully enough that they don't become one dimensional and to be able to stop UW-W's run on early downs, so UW-W is faced with 3rd and long situations.  The keys for UW-W will be slow down a fierce Titan pass rush when they do choose to pass and to contain Wara and not let him kill them single-handedly.

This should be a great game that isn't decided until well into the fourth quarter.

Hope everyone who goes or watches the game on TV has a great time.

You talk about Whitewater's front seven, but more specifically I'm confident our linebackers will be able to slow down this option attack. They are fast and physical and move great latterly from sideline to sideline. I don't think theres a better group of linebackers in the country.

And by the way...we are smoking a beef brisket for the game tomorrow. So if anyone wants a sandwich please stop by..we're going to have way too much food.

KitchenSink

Might stop by, 02.  Gonna be a full day, so we'll see.

I also saw that Oshkosh has given up some rushing yardage.  Platteville and EC each gained 150 yards (and that is net of sack yards).  It's probably not rocket science to suggest that whoever wins the rushing yardage, wins the game - unless turnovers trump it.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!
