The guy is listed at 6-6, 255 -- perhaps scouts wanted to take a look at him just based on that. Well, and the fact that he got playing time at UW-Madison.

WIACPOWER

WW fans...

Show some class...the comments about Docherty on the www.warhawkfootball.com are brutal!!  Tom Karthausser (can't believe he's using his name) must took to many shots to the head in his sparse playing days!!  Or maybe he got run over by Docherty..

And come on....10 players better then him on the WW roster....WW has a very good team but let's not bash Bob for making the Hula Bowl, after all he was voted as an unanimous 1st team TE and coaches are not allowed to vote for their own players...and further more if Pete S from WW hangs on to that TD pass WW might be the national champs!  (not to take anything away from Pete cause he's a good player)

So,,, WW fans get over the sour grapes and be proud that Bob D is representing the WIAC!!!

I was wondering when the WIAC football schedules for 2006 are published?

d3fbfanatic

Barber as far as the schedule. I believe it chanGes for the 2006-2007 season. The league has it all done. I believe it has already been voted on and just needs to be released by the league and schools.
As far as the whole whitewater pleyuers ripping on Docherty.I am not sure what to say but it's their first amendment right. With that said. Pete schmidt is a stud of as tight end,and that pass was a tough one to catch in my opnuion. What really did the hawks in was the fact that they were on the one yard line, and they could not score two plays in a row gave Mount Union the momentum, and cause a 14 point a swing. When your playing a team like Mount Union and you have the ball on the one yard line you have to score no matter what. Failure to do so is sort of like taking the star cheerleader home at the end of a good drinking night, and not being able to score yourself.
Good job warhawks, you guys had a hell of a season, and I think it a retty good bet that the hawks will be back in the playoffs next year as well,as they return almost their entire team.

Dockerty may or may not be signed by an NFL team, but his chances of being drafted are virtually non-existent.

Not that it matters but I'd point out to those who feel WW fans need to show more class that the posts critical of Docherty's selection have been deleted from the WARHAWKFOOTBALL.COM website guest book.

I have to admit that Docherty's selection came as a complete surprise to me.  Personally I felt he underachieved his two years as a Titan considering that he was a D1 player with starting experience in a major conference.  But I only saw him play twice and obviously, based on his selection to the All Conference team,  there are others that saw it differently.

Good luck Bob, I hope you play well and that the announcers don't focus on the fact you used to play D1 BADGER football rather than the fact you are representing the WIAC and D3 football.

WIACPOWER, I don't hide who I am when I post and hence stand by MY OPINIONS!!  You say what you said like I need to look over my back when I walk in a parking lot from now on.  As far as MY OPINIONS are concerned, like or dislike them, read them or don't read them.  Isn't the whole point of these discussion boards to debate and express our opinions?

I feel Bob Docherty is a horrible selection.  I was not the best player on the field when I played, but I played against him and thought he was average at best.  He's big, and that's it.  I hope he does represent the WIAC well.  But if we're looking for someone to represent the WIAC well, there were plenty of other seniors selections from the WIAC that would have done much better at the Hula Bowl.  I'll begin with Jimmy Leszczynski for starters.

wiacfbgrad

The selections are not based upon "who will represent the WIAC the best,"  or "who had the best collegiate career."  If it was, yes, everyone could complain, but someone has decided that he should show up and play because they want to see what he can do.

You cannot deny the fact that a 6'6" 255lb TE does not have the potential to "bulk up" and become a NFL TE.  Also, the fact that he played D1 ball makes him intriguing.  I guess it doesn't matter why he is there anymore.  All the belly-aching in the world won't change it.  Now, "we" as the WIAC, should support him with the hopes that the scouts will be more inclined to look at other WIAC players in the future.

As for the "classless UWW posters"-  Yes, it is their opinion, and everyone can choose to read it or not.  However, posting that those people are "classless" is also an opinion, so it's that catch-22.  In my opinion, they can complain all they want about it, but when they bring it out into the public's eye, it shows a lack of respect, not only for Docherty, but the selection committee, the WIAC and all the coaches that voted Docherty a 1st team all-conference TE.

It goes back to what a coach once told my team about talking to the press...."never say anything that will disrespect you, your school and/or team."  You would never say "that team sucks, they are no good, we kicked their A$$es" to a reporter?  So why say it on a website (especially if you sign it with your own name).  It is very disrespectful, and in my opinion should not have been said.

Pat Coleman

Agreed. I think people that complain about the selection don't understand how D-I postseason all-star games work. They are prospect showcases.

I agree with everything that has been said about the support that should be given to Dockerty and any player from the WIAC family.  But I just want to point out what I pointed out earlier.  An outside poster came on the Warhawk football site and congratulated Dockerty for his selection even though he plays for Oshkosh.  It was not done on a more neutral site such as this blog.  A very few players then responded in what, I felt, was not appropriate, BUT they did not initiate any discussion regarding this player.  It is not like they went on the site in order to trash the selection out of the blue.  I believe that without that initial posting, there is a good chance that nothing would ever have been said by any of the players.   Suddenly, all WW fans are classless.  Please...  The guest book has been cleaned up and the incident should be dropped.  Congratulations to all the players selected for the Aztec and Hula Bowl!

to throw my two cents in.. the two playoff games I was present for I thought the WW fans were respectful, upbeat, and great football fans.  The environments at Perkins were great and made an "outsider" (CCIW background) feel welcome.

Enough about the Whitewater scandel (pun intended).  It was said, and might be used for locker room talk next year, but it will probably be forgotten.

New subject...On the home page, they talk about how this year was the highest average winning margin throughout the playoffs.  I ask this...

Is it because there is a larger discrepancy between the "haves" and "have nots"?  If you look at the teams that posted the blow-outs, WW, STJ, MUC, Linfield had the majority.  Yes, wesley had some as well as quite a few other teams in the first round, but the big ones were from the usuals (even though WW isn't a usual).

Or, is it a certain pool that isn't as strong?  I don't know which teams are in which pool, but if all of the pool B teams are getting destoyed, wouldn't that help to change the structure of the selections?

Or, do you think it is just a fluke and next year will be different?

Salem_in_06

On a different note...Now that the season has come to an end, who do you think will win the WIAC title in 2006?  Also, what players do you think will have a major impact on their respective teams come fall '06?

Not all the Pool B teams are getting destroyed, so I wouldn't expect that to be an issue.

I think the bracketing criteria isn't as strong.
