my guess is you'll see docherty get drafted, even with his "lack of talent"

As good as I have heard he is I'd make a wager and give you 3-2 odds he will not be drafted this year in the NFL draft.

Doubt it. Elliot from STJ didn't get drafted and neither did Arth, Adamson or Kern from the OAC a couple of years ago. Brett Elliot probably has the best chance because he did start at Utah, but he is probably a long shot at getting drafted as well. Best chance is to get signed as a free agent, make some noise in the spring camps and hope to get invited in August.

Merry Christmas All!

Mel Kiper Jr. has Elliot on his draft board being drafted between rounds 4 and 5. I think it's safe to say he'll get drafted - and make an NFL roster. As far as Docherty, I can honestly say I've seen him play once. But what should probably also be looked at is the talent in tight end position for the draft and/or how many teams NFL teams really need tight ends. If the talent is scarce but teams need TE's, then he at least has an outside shot.

happy new year to you... easy to make it home safe when you don't go anywhere ;D

joelmama: Your money is safe.
My money might be safe but apparently my Karma is not.  Big hit there.  I guess though it is a fact that if you come from d3 you have 2.9 strikes against you trying to get into the NFL, but supporters of certain individuals do not want to hear those facts.

joel: Look at it this way. Wouldn't you rather have money than karma?

It was nice to see D3 and River Falls mentioned on the Sugar Bowl telecast after Owen Schmitt's 54 yard run.  If you missed it, it's also referred to in the CNN/SI game story.

He threw a few monster blocks too.

It was interesting learning that he had prepared his own highlight video, gotten in his car and driven around to colleges in the country trying to find a team.   Way cool, and after what he did to WHITEWATER[/color] two years ago I was mighty glad to see him leave the conference.

Given that 06 is Berezowitz's last year at Whitewater, what is the speculation on who will replace him? Someone currently on the staff?

Best Owen Schmitt story yet at Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.  Since direct link doesn't work, go 1) www.post-gazette.com, 2) sports, 3) West Virginia U, and 4) 12-31-05 headline "Fullback Travels Long Road..."  The kid obviously left his heart in Wisconsin.

Both Stan Zwiefel, D3's offensive coordinator of the year (2005), and Brian Borland, D3's defensive coordinator of the year (2004), off of the staff will be candidates.  I'd anticipate that there will be interest on a national level  as well so who knows who might come out of that.
