What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

What's wrong with attending a playoff football game on the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend?
Not one D3 playoff game on Saturday topped the 2000 mark with UWO having the highest attedance and St. Thomas the lowest.

1458    Johns Hopkins @ Mount Union
1697    Franklin @ Mary Hardin-Baylor
1304    North Central @ Linfield
735      Elmhurst @ St. Thomas
1947    Bethel @ UW-Oshkosh
817      Cortland State @ Wesley
852      Wittenberg @ Hobart
1612    Salisbury @ Widener

UWW and Franklin last year only drew 1,087.  That has to look pretty bad in a house as big as UWW's.  Voice you should already know the answer seeing that the Warhawks have had the honor of hosting a number of Thanksgiving week games.  Students out on break, visiting team fans having to travel great distances (costs), D1 rivalry games going on the same day...all are in play as factors.

However, the main reasons I think you see attendance numbers dip across the board during playoffs are weather, students having to pay for tickets, and it takes two fan bases to tango to get the bigger numbers.  The nature of playoffs and cost of travel limit fans making the trip in a number of match-ups.

Congrats to UWO on the game on Saturday. I wish the results were different, but you beat us going away.

I was particularly impressed with Wara, Voss, Stefaniak, Myhra and your DB (#2?). You guys had very good players at each position, but those guys stood out. Wara and Voss especially, showing fortitude in bouncing back after a rocky start. I definitely got to see what the hype was about. You've got some gamers.

Best of luck in the playoffs.

#2 on the D is Tim Filter. Up to 8 INTs on the year now.

NEVER thought I would see the day where Oshkosh had the highest attendence for a game. :o

(Not that 2000 is really that great when you compare it to some of the crowds Whitewater has seen in years past.)

This is just shocking to me. Never thought UWO would top anything attendance related.

To me, this is a really good sign for UW-O.  What I am shocked by is St. Thomas.  A program on the rise, located in the Twin Cities, and they draw 735 to a second round game? What in the world?  :o

One more thing to always remember with these numbers is that when we get to the playoffs, we go from SID estimates, rough counts, etc., to paid attendance. I doubt those numbers accurately represent the number of people in the stadium anywhere. Students will likely find their way in lots of places.

And as Wildcat pointed out, this is not at all new. Happens everywhere, every year.

I actually thought there was a very good crowd at Oshkosh. I couldn't find anywhere to sit in the middle of the stands. I had to go down where the students were to find a place to sit (actually I stood most of the game).

About 14 minutes of UW-O's post game presser was posted by d3football. Great watch, i'm actually surprised by how candid Coach Cerroni is in many of these questions.

For someone who knows him, it's not a surprise.  It's exactly how he has been since the first day he stepped foot on campus.

And that's the entire news conference, other than a couple of seconds in which someone hit my tripod. :)

He was indeed quite candid -- we comment on that in the podcast this morning as well.

Wildcat11 - Actually I wasn't surprised at the low attendance.  I've taken shots at our own fan base in the past. You acturately stated the reasons for poor attendance.  I wonder if Division III higher ups have ever wondered about the week 2 playoff poor attendance and if they ever considered remedies to the situation? free admission maybe??

I took a look back at the Oshkosh/Bethel game. I wanted to compare Bethel's offense prior to throwing that late first-half pick, to their offense after the pick. To me that interception was EVERYTHING. Bethel had all the momentum in the world up until that point. They had the ball with minutes left in the first half and a two TD lead on the road. Then at 1:35 in the second quarter Bethel threw an interception that changed the face of the game.

Up until that point, Bethel scored two touchdowns on 216 yards of total offense. Following the interception (that setup Oshkosh's first TD) Bethel only managed 51 yards total the rest of the game!!! That includes three drives that ended in negative yards (-12, -1 and -1).

If Oshkosh's defense can play that good for 60 minutes, rather than 31 minutes, they can beat Linfield. Linfield's running game is average (at best), but can light it up threw the air. Oshkosh's defense can't give up huge chunks of passing yards to Linfield, like they did in the first half of the Bethel game.

Stop me when this sounds familar:
An underdog WIAC team, with little playoff experience, playing a quarterfinal game in McMinnville ......Does history repeat itself?!?!?!

It should be a good one

What I thought most interesting was, at around the 9:50 mark, Coach Cerroni talks about the secondary issues. "Our corners can't be put on islands all the time". Do you think we can expect to see Cerroni dial back the blitz schemes and stick in zone coverage in order to keep the Linfield WR's in front of them and give them as much safety help as possible?
Also wondering, for those in the know, would Platteville be a good comparison to Linfield as far as offensive scheme is concerned? If you take a quick look at both UW-P and Linfield's cumulative offensive season stats, the similarities are there.

http://athletics.uwplatt.edu/sports/fball/2012-13/stats/teamcume.htm

Gotta think that Linfield looks at that UW-P game tape to get an idea of how UW-O will scheme defensively.
