From Warhawkfootball.com.......

Former UW-Whitewater linebacker Lane Olson worked out for the New York Jets earlier this week. He posted the following on Facebook early Wednesday afternoon.

First I just want to thank everyone who supported me and always believed me, I can't even tell you how much it means to me I love you all. My work out went great and I am heading to NYI have been offered a future contract with the NY jets In January. I am truly blessed and Just shows never give up on your dreams. Time to grind #BeastMode...

Lane is coming off a successful season playing earlier this year for Rhinos Milano of the Italian Football League.

The Lane Train is ready to roll down the NFL track!!!

Awesome for him...interesting playing LB at the D3 college level and signing a contract as a WR at the Pro level.

So is a "future contract" guaranteed at all? I just haven't heard of that type of contract before?

I wasn't sure what these contracts were either. I did a little digging and it looks to me like the contract will be valid when the 2013 season Official Year begins in March of 2013.  I know Lane mentioned January,so maybe the applicable date has changed and the information I read was dated.  Only players who are not on an NFL roster at the end of a season are eligible to sign a futures contract for the next season. All practice squad players are eligible to sign such contracts.  Usually, these contracts are for the minimum and they rarely include a signing bonus.  Other than bonuses, I think most NFL contracts are not guaranteed.

One possible explanation of the date thing is that the Jets gave Lane a verbal commitment to sign him to a futures contract once the season ends in January.  From what I read, such contracts can't be signed until the current season ends.

I've enjoyed listening to and reading the interviews of Coach Cerroni.  In listening to the D3 podcast the thought occurred to me that perhaps the looseness of the Titans is good for a while, but could it be dangerous as they go forward?  For those that were more involved in the 05 and 06 UWW years, you probably have a better perspective.  I do remember watching the Stagg Bowls back then and thinking how Mt was so nearly mistake free vs UWW.  Was UWW a bit too loose- too much enjoying the experience as opposed to precision focus on assignment football?  I don't know, but I am curious.

Exactly...during those years Whitewater just seemed happy to be there.

Thanks Puck.  I like the last sentence:

Tyler Huber just tweeted that his medical redshirt was granted. He's for sure coming back next year.

Sorry, 02, to contradict you on this point and maybe it seemed like that from the outside, but as a parent of a starter and defensive leader on the 05 and 06, (and 07,) team, I can tell you, that those boys and their staff, fully expected to win those games!!  They were not just happy to be there.  Now, was the national stage and playing on ESPN for the first time somewhat intimidating, of course, but I would say that those losses had more to do with being a little out-coached, (who doesn't LK out-coach?)  and not being able to win the LOS.  Regarding 17's question, I will say that a key player or two played the worst games I have ever seen them play on that day in 05 and 06 for whatever reason.  But, as a whole, the team and staff knew they belonged and that luck had very little to do with why they made those trips to Salem. They expected to win in 05 and thought they would go back and remedy that mistake in 06.   I still feel bad for the 06 seniors who never did feel the joy of raising the Walnut and Bronze but who I credit most with blazing the trail to the nation level and Stagg Bowls.  Just my $.02        ;) 8-)

Yea, you're probably right. I was just trying to justify why they lost, without giving Mount too much credit  ;D

And that's a sound strategy.
So 413, my question is not so much about whether a team is unsure they can win/belong, but more about was the attitude prior to the game possibly too lax, too loose- which perhaps led into a couple players not playing to their ability?  As you alluded to, it only takes one or two key players to have an off-game.

There is always a fine balance between being loose and too loose.  It's amazing though how critically important execution becomes in these big games.  IMO that may have been the biggest change between 05/06 and 2007 for UWW.

I liked the hat Cerroni was wearing.

As an outsider, I have to say I'm really looking forward to watching the Linfield-UWO game. I will have it up on my computer (at 4 Eastern, I will split my attention between this and the SEC Championship), and expect a great game. I think the winner of this game has a very good chance of not only going to the Stagg Bowl but winning it.

you better check the time or you will miss a few TD's  :D

Oh, I see what you mean. I meant that starting at 4 eastern my attention will start to be divided, since that's when the SEC game starts. But my post is kind of ambiguous.
