The conference commissioner's office was unaware of the conflict?  UWW may have nothing to do with the schedule, but it sounds ike UWW dropped the ball on that one.   If they have a known conflict, shouldn't it be their responsibility to notify the office?  No one at UWEC is happy about that at all!!
On another notes, how is spring practice going with the various schools with all this crappy weather?   Our high school fields are covered with snow.  Maybe it's better farther south.  I am more in the central part of the state.

Maybe they did...I don't think anyone here can say how this scheduling conflict truly went down. Or whose fault it was.

The scheduling is done several years in advance.  This game was originally scheduled for a Saturday.  It's unfortunate that no one in Eau Claire is happy about the change but they can get in line behind the WHITEWATER people.  We're not thrilled by the change either.  But you have to adjust and that doesn't place any more of a burden on the Eau Claire staff than it places on our staff.

And, no offense intended, but anyone who thinks Coach Leipold drops the ball on anything hasn't got a clue.

The WSMA State High School Marching Band Championship Competition is nothing new at Whitewater.  Perkins Stadium has been the location of the event the third Saturday of October for the past 29 years.

I've been around since 1988 and virtually every year the WIAC conference schedule has had the Warhawks on the road that weekend.

This year is one of those rare exceptions.

Not sure why the WIAC schedule-maker has the Hawks home on the third weekend in October necessitating the non-Saturday game vs. Eau Claire.

Has it been confirmed that Huber is coming back and Timm is not?
Anybody know if Huber is participating in spring practices?

From what I gathered last year, Huber will come back but Timm will graduate.

Unless that changed over the winter.

Do you know what was the extent of Huber's injury?

Wow.  I certainly didn't mean to imply that Coach Leipold (if that is even his area of responsibility as I would have thought it may fall on the AD or another staff member) was anything less than perfect.  I did not realize he was not human. ::)
But UWEC students will miss class.  Not all students are happy to miss class as they do miss important stuff.  Exams/quizzes need to be made up or taken early.  Will UWW students miss?  And If I'm not mistaken, some UWEC staff do have day jobs also.
And I would also think more UWW fans are closer to home on Friday and able to make it a little easier, compared to UWEC fans who have to drive across the state and may have day jobs (or school) on Friday and not want to pay for a hotel.
So yes, I do think it is much more of a pain for the visiting team.  Absolutely.
And yes, UWEC fans will have to bite it.
Since you guys know so much about the planning of the schedules, can you tell me why it is so lopsided as far as when teams play at home/away from other teams?   I've noticed UWEC has only played near my hometown 1 in the last 4 years - maybe longer but I can't remember.  I would think they would try and make an effort to even it out?

palum

With all the talk about schedules and Friday night games.  A few years ago Whitewater played at Platteville on a Thursday night.  I liked the idea more students were at the game instead of the bars (I mean library) and the game recieved front page top of the fold coverage in the State Journal.  Given the close proximity of many WIAC schools would the conference ever consider a WIAC Game of the Week on Thursday?

Just think if UW Superior still played football.  I remember leaving on a Friday Morning from Whitewater,  stopping in Eau Claire for a walk through practice at one of the high schools in the afternoon and then getting on the bus and getting into Superior somtime around 8 pm to play a 1 pm game on Saturday.  Afterwards it was a straight shot home which ended up being  early Sunday morning.  Just part of the schedule,  If I didn't like it I didn't have to be on the team.

Is it really any different than volleyball athletes who frequently play multi-team events which are played on Fridays and Saturdays?

Good thing that trip only needed to be made twice (at the most) in a player's four year football career.

I imagine that trip is still made every year for baseball, basketball, volleyball, etc....

It turns out that the Friday night game between WHITEWATER and Eau Claire was actually scheduled two years ago and at that time Eau Claire's staff was perfectly ok with it.  The commissioner's office was aware of the conflict at that time and left it up to the two programs to work out and a Friday night game is what was agreed to.

UW-Oshkosh QB Nate Wara worked out for the Packers yesterday. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has a feature story in today's paper.

The UW Oshkosh Athletics facebook page has some images of the workout if you search for it.

A few pictures of the tryout with the Packers. Looks like a Stevens Point WR also took part (Theo Magglio?). They don't state the results of the drills.
