UW-Oshkosh QB Nate Wara worked out for the Packers yesterday. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has a feature story in today's paper.

The UW Oshkosh Athletics facebook page has some images of the workout if you search for it.

A few pictures of the tryout with the Packers. Looks like a Stevens Point WR also took part (Theo Magglio?). They don't state the results of the drills.

It was Theo. Garrie Fox and Tim Filter also participated.

It would be great if Wara and Plattevilles McWethy both made NFL teams. I would say McWethy has a better shot, don't know Waras numbers but, McWethys were off the charts.

Looks like UWW's Miech moved from WR coach to LB coach this season. Leipold then hired Alan Hensell as the new WR coach. Looks like Hensell has a ton of DI experience.

So that means no more Rindahl?? I wonder if he got a job somewhere?

Update: Jace got a job in South Dakota as a RB coach...best of luck to him.

Don't know if anybody reported this but the NCAA came out with its attendance rankings and WW was second at 7,552 and Platteville was ninth at 4,232 they were the only WIAC teams in the top 30.  St John's (MN) was ranked first at 7,948.  The WIAC was ranked 3rd with a average attendance of 2,943.  Link to the NCAA football attendance;

Wow, nice scoop 02.  I'm sad to see Jace go, but I hope it's another step up the ladder toward his goal.
I assume Hensell will also teach at UWW?  I don't see how this would be a step up for a guy from DI so I assume there are other reasons he's here.

I sat through my first UWW spring practice yesterday.  A couple of first observations while I come off the injury list and feeling good.

Matt Behrendt, now a sophomore, returns as UWW's starting QB.  The junior is one of six quarterbacks at spring practice. I love his  arm strength.

I sat for nearly 30 minutes focused exclusively at the LBs going through their position drills.  The returning talent at LB is extremely strong!

I was intrigued watching the running backs. Who will replace Des Ward at tailback?
Nick Patterson is back for his sophomore season after showing superb talent last year. Ryan Givens went down with a season-ending knee injury in game three last year. How will he respond to the injury this year?  He is very talented.  I'm sure their are a number of unproven RB's that we'll know much more about as we get closer to the start of the season.

Tyler Huber is sitting out spring practice after missing virtually all of last season due to an ankle injury. He is healthy and will be back for the start of fall practice.

Another notable returner missing on the defensive unit is Loussaint Minett. who is currently having a strong season putting the shot, throwing the discus and as a hammer thrower for the nationally, 3rd ranked UWW track & field team.

I'll have more thoughts on spring practice now that spring weather is finally returning.

Coming off last year's 7 & 3 record the Hawks

Is Tyler still rehabing his ankle, which is causing him to sit from the spring practice?

Jace has accepted a coaching job at the University of South Dakota, my and all my families, (brothers and parents,) alma mater.  Grew up there and graduated from the School of Education and my husband got his undergrad and masters from the School of Business.  They went D1 a number of years ago, although they suffer from, "little fish in a big pond," syndrome and built a dome stadium back in the 70's when we were there. Great opportunity for him and he is very excited.  I told him he will love everything about the football but in regards to the town,  Vermillion after Whitewater is pretty much a lateral move.   :D   Best of luck to him and GO COYOTES!!!

According to DraftBrowns.com and Platteville's website  UWP's Ryan McWethy a DB from Oregon, IL  signed a free agent contract with the Browns.  Link to DraftBrowns.com:

How important is "spring football practice" at the NCAA II<p> How important is "spring football practice" at the NCAA III level?  In my eyes, the way you practice in the spring sets the tone for this coming fall's start of preseason practice.

Following seven consecutive berths in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl and with that five weeks of additional practice the Hawks enter 2013 coming off a 7 & 3 mark and no additional practices in November and December.

Some of the things I've been thinking about while watching the Hawks this spring has been...

(1):  What is the player's attitude coming off a 7 & 3 mark.

(2):  Will this coming year's senior class take "the bull by the horns" and provide the leadership needed to help guide UWW to the WIAC title after falling short last year.

(3):  Who are the reserves from last year that will catch coaches eyes this spring heading into fall practice.

(4): Will those starters injured last year be able to return at a high level this fall.

(5): Have many Warhawk football fans fallen off the "band wagon" after the Hawks 7 & 3 non Stagg Bowl season.  Will they be back at the "Perk" this fall to fill the stadium.

UW-Whitewater's amazing four national titles and seven national title game berths in seven years was proof-positive of a championship effort.  For UWW to be able to get back to that championship level will take hard work.  That is what champions are made of!

Good comments and questions.
My two cents:
-Despite the rhetoric from so many about the public school advantage (WIAC in particular), I believe it's harder for UWW or other public school to maintain such a run.

Well that didn't come out right.
To finish my thought:
-You are right about the need for hard work (especially with the details), however, they of course need the exceptional talent.
-From an offensive point of view, over a 7-year period UWW was blessed with two exceptional running backs and offensive lines.  The ability to run the ball, and the threat of the running game, contributed greatly to a good passing game.  No doubt there have been some very good QB's and recievers, but IMO the running game was the key to UWW's offensive success over the 7 years.
-The defense under Borland has been terrific-championship caliber.  There have been excellent players along the way no doubt, but the defense to me has been about the unit more than the star- and they are poised to be an excellent unit again.
-Thus, IMO, the key to UWW's return to prominance rests with their ability to revive Pound the Rock.  If they can't, we will see good, but not great.
