Stout hanging tough.  Go BDB!
Well, OzJohnnie, they may have been hanging tough while you were watching, but that didn't last long.  Stout was completely overmatced once WW started rolling and no amount of "we just didn't play well" talk is going to change that.  So much for that "upset alert" that everyone was talking about.  Did WW look more impressive than the defending champions we played the week before?  No comparison.  I have not seen Platteville play yet but after watching WW play, I have to say that calling Platteville the conference favorite as Lance did yesterday on our Sat. show is "coachspeak" at its finest.  It was a great atmosphere, the WW people were, as usual, a pleasure to work with, (except for that "clock guy" who sucked) and another reminder that WW is still the class of the conference and all the rest of us have some more catching up to do.

stoutguy--Before the game, Matt Walker said Pville is very good, even better than ranked. I doubt he has reason to change his mind now.

RF had one good drive just after the half to score and make it 28-7, but then they gambled on an onside kick, lost the ball, and got scored on almost immediately. From there on, they had no chance. I thought the Pioneer running game was only okay, but their passing game was unstoppable yesterday. Kelly almost always had a lot of time to throw. Walker previously had praised their receivers, and that praise was  borne out yesterday.

Even when we were  0-3, I thought we could improve on last year's record, but now I'm not so sure. There seems to be a bigger split between the top four teams and the rest this season, but it may be a bit too early to make that conclusion.

GOT BALLS? PLAY FOR THE FALLS!

Stoutguy,

Thanks for your kind observations. Much appreciated. Sorry I didn't stop by your box. Looked like you guys were pretty busy!

Congratulations to Matt for an outstanding performance and a place in the  UW-W record book. Obviously to say Kumerow is a luxury is a huge understatement, but Behrendt made some throws yesterday that were flat out spectacular. I'm sure there were others, but three very different throws, all to Kumerow,  stand out in my mind. The TD pass he dropped over the defender perfectly into Kumerow's arms on the dead run along the right sidelline was one. The TD STRIKE he threw on the slant (man, velocity!) was another. And the third was the deep back shoulder pass to Kumerow to the left sideline.  Knowing the timing that throw requires and that it was flat out perfect is really impressive.

I think UW-W's offense deserves a great deal of credit for yesterday's performance. To play as well as they did without their top receiver and their top two running backs suited up (and to lose another during the game) is a real tribute to the whole unit. WIWA!

For those of us unable to see live, film or replay, it's great to get a report like this Bleed- thanks.
What a difference some confidence makes.

WIAC pickem particpants please remember that there is a Friday night game this week.  That pick is due by 6 pm (CST) Friday.

Stoutguy, first it was great to see and chat with your again.  Secondly, I hope you and your partner were able to restrain yourselves when the Blue Devils got on the board first. ;)

Lastly, I have a question for you.  Is your field goal kicker approaching some sort of record?  I'm trying to understand why the Blue Devils went for the field goal in the fourth quarter.   I know he's a very good kicker and he is a senior so I thought maybe he's closing in on a record.

Maybe as simple as: Three points is better than zero points.

I have a somewhat humorous, but disrespectful anecdote. I was looking for when the replay(s) of the UWW/Stout game were going to air this week. I checked on my Time Warner supplied cable menu, looking under the broad heading "College Football". There was nothing scheduled, so I decided to see what high school games were coming up in the near future, and found that was where the UWW/Stout games were listed. If I were youse guys, I'd be outraged. >:(

Pretty good. It was better than the last time I saw that group cover a game in Whitewater. In the previous game, the color commentator (Brophy?) was pronouncing Leipold as "Lea-pold" the whole game. However, he was getting Lance's name correct this time around.

They also seemed to know their way around the WIAC pretty good, which added some credibility

After 12 penalties for over 100 yards against LaCrosse the WARHAWKS were only penalized 3 times for 14 yards against Stout.  In the LaCrosse game it seemed we were literally unable to return a punt without an illegal blocking penalty.   Against Stout we were flawless.

In connection with my previous post on rebroadcast times for the Fox Sports Wisconsin telecast of the Stout at Whitewater football game. The Website indicated a 1 p.m. rebroadcast time today.  I believe the times listed are EST as I'm watching the Oregon-Washington replay right now and the game is in the 4th quarter.  Look for today's Stout-UWW replay to air at Noon today.
