Thanks Hazzben....good data, but it left out Illinois...I know us flatlanders are used to it   ;D

Just for fun I looked and counted (and I could have missed one here or there) the number of Illinois players on the rosters of WIAC schools.  Here is what I found

UW - River Falls         0
UW - Eau Claire          2
UW - Stevens Point    4
UW - Oshkosh           6
UW- Stout                7
UW - LaCrosse          7
UW - Whitewater       27
UW - Platteville         53

Now when you consider distance from the Chicago metro area, the closest are UWW, UWP and UWO, so I have to believe that proximity, winning tradition and facilities entered strongly into the decision.  Also the tuition reciprocity that UWP has with Illinois and Iowa helps them in a serious way.
Yep, no IL. I didn't gather the data last time (oversight?) and didn't have time to look it up this time. My knee jerk would be that it's probably a zero sum back and forth. Maybe not.  ???

What strikes me as interesting is that UWO has so few IL kids. They obviously aren't hurting for talent. But given that the 3 top teams (UWSP may prove me wrong this weekend, we'll see) are all in close proximity to IL, but only two seem to be leveraging that advantage.

Just goes to show, more than one way to skin a cat. I don't know much about UWP coaches, but obviously UWW's staff is top notch and I was more than impressed with what I saw from UWO over the course of the playoffs last year. That's probably the biggest common denominator between the three.

I know that Bethel is actually at a significant disadvantage when it comes to recruiting and aid offered. We've got one of the smallest endowments in the MIAC (unfortunately). Carleton, Olaf, UST, SJU and the Cobbers consistently out offer us by a wide margin. The former two do it strictly for financial aid and merit reasons. They go out of their way to not help athletics, unfortunately. The latter aren't afraid to get competitive. Bethel's coaching is a huge asset. As is its unique evangelical culture. We'd be toast if we weren't looking for a bit different type of kid than the other private and state schools around us.

But the aid gap hurts. Case in point, we had a stud O-Lineman just this year that didn't return. He would have been a starter and the coaches thought he was a clear all conference and beyond caliber player. But he and his parents sat down and decided they just couldn't justify taking out $25k in loans for a single school year, especially since he was just a soph. I can't blame them one bit for that decision. It was probably wise, its crazy to go $100k in debt for an undergrad degree. But it was a big blow; the coaches were understanding but also disappointed. With better aid, the kid might have only needed to take out $10k. Probably stays in school. C'est la vie!

How dare you complain about a competitive  :odisadvantage on this board!!! :o

Watching UWW vs UWEC.   28-0 Whitewater at half.   Defense has dominated.  UWW failed one in red zone due to penalties and then a field goal hit upright.

UWL has an important test at Stout tomorrow, but will be playing without LT Matt Krier et al. as injuries have come to complicate an already difficult situation. In addition, the coaching staff is going with a new QB in Trent Cummings. He replaces Andy Sires, who has started 15 games for the Eagles. It's time to take the opportunity to grab our first win of the season, and I'll be looking for it. The defense steps up, and La Crosse wins 21-17.

It should be a good game. Stout has a couple of kids who can make plays (#1 and #4). On the plus side for LaCrosse is that Stout pretty much runs the same offense as Oshkosh these days (the O'Grady influence).  I'm sure Coach Dettwiler felt like he needed to change something up to spark the Eagles offense.  Hopefully, changing quarterbacks will provide that. Based on how they both played against UW-W, I would pick Stout.  But obviously, every Saturday is a new opportunity to take a step in getting better. Both teams will be hungry for a win, that's for sure.

More reciprocity agreements (discussed on these pages earlier) are being implemented as a reaction to demographics that  project a slow, but continuous decline in the number of future Wisconsin high school graduates for the next several years.  Platteville's Tri-State Initiative (sold to the Board of Regents as a means of attracting more future engineers) has been highly successful.  For decades UWRF was several hundred students larger than UWP.  That situation has been reversed.  My granddaughter is a student in Marion, Iowa (next door to Cedar Rapids).  A Platteville recruiter was there a week ago Thursday.  Finally, there is no such thing as out-of-state tuition at UW - Superior, regardless of whether the student comes from Duluth, MN or Brisbane, Australia.

I had the great pleasure of attending the UWW-UWEC game last night.  A beautiful setting and atmosphere with Friday Night Lights.
This is the first time I've seen UWW live since Wash U.
I am truly amazed at the difference in this team.  The coaching staff has performed a transfiguration of the offense (no religious offense intended).  The UWW offense is nothing, and I mean nothing, like it was.  Even when the offense fails to maintain a drive or score, there seems to be nothing but confidence that they will get it done the next series.  The pace of the game, the breadth of play calls, distribution of the football and play making ability is a complete joy to watch.
The Defense- unreal.  It wasn't until a botched UWEC punt that ended up in a first down for them that UWEC broke 100 yards- and that was against the second unit and mid 4th quarter.  The LB's get a lot of the praise and deservedly so- the DB's executed terrific coverage from start to finish in the game.  The UWEC QB simply had nobody to throw to without risking interception.  The D line was constantly applying pressure too.

A giant 2 Thumbs up from this fan to the entire UWW program.

A well-deserved honor for a UWL footballer who was injured while serving his country - Jason Church, recipient of the 2014 National Collegiate Athletic Association Inspiration Award. What a touching, inspiring moment it was to see him awarded a Purple Heart last season during the UWL-Whitewater game...

Kumerow now has scored 6 TDs in his last 2 games, giving him 10 on the year (thru 6 games). D. Stanley holds the UWW record with 17 in a season. If the Hawks can get into the playoffs and make a deep run, this might be a record setting year for the junior. He has the size and hands to be one of the Warhawk WR greats when his college career is all said and done.

Also, I'm glad to see a pair of 100 rushers from last night. This UWW offense is hitting on all cylinders heading into their challenging part of its schedule.

Congrats to UWL on a 21-3 victory over Stout.

I was there last year and it was extremely moving ceremony.  This new honor is a wonderful award for an outstanding young man.  Thank-you for sharing it with us.
