DOC has been grinding this ax for a while. Surprised that he would come back to it, though, after an active Linfield player spent four days in jail this summer.

It's unfortunate. It's a great time of year and a ton of interesting topics to discuss.

Was there for their beatdown of Platteville. Score was closer than the game IMO. Hope to make it to a Bethel/UWW tilt if that's in the cards.

I don't know that it is necessary to highlight the off field troubles of another young man to make a point.  Maybe something more general would suffice.

I understand your point ROR.  But the difference is I know I (and I hope others) won't be performing an internet search so that I can find out who the player is, and then go on the NWC board and drop a random question every now and then.  Pat's point is right on, if we want to do enough digging, we can find issues everywhere.

Why don't we just move on and discuss something football related?

Despite knowing that the staff will harp about it all week I might normally be concerned that the WARHAWKS could have a mental lapse this weekend.  After two really intense weeks of preparation and gamedays it might be expected.  However given what happened last year and the fact that most of the team played in that game I think we'll go into it with a bit of a chip on our shoulders and something to prove.  Added to that is the fact that a victory clinches no worse than a tie for the conference championship and with us holding the tie breaker over the only team with a chance to share it the automatic bid into the playoffs.  Given all of that I think the team will be mentally ready to play.

I agree BW that there is way too much at stake for a mental lapse.
I will admit I'm a bit concerned about the physical health of the team. I know UWW has a great strength and conditioning guy and he will have a plan in place. It's just that we've seen two weeks of hard fought games with important players getting dinged up.

The nice thing is like you said- if UWW wins Saturday they are in. Not that the last game doesn't matter because seeding is important, but maybe some guys can get healing time.

Welcome back to the power pinnacle my UWW friends!

(In my best Dean Wormer's voice)...I really hate those guys!   ;)

Son, we live in a world that has brackets, and those brackets have to be filled by men with cannons. Who's gonna do it? You? You,Skunks Sidekick? UW-W has  a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for UW-Oshkosh, and you curse the Warhawks. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. UW-O's stumble, while tragic, probably saved the WIAC. And UW's existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, strengthens D3. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you WANT UW-W in that bracket.  you NEED UW-W in that bracket. We use words like WIWA and monkeystomp and purple kool aide. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the influence of alcohol .   ;)

awesome!  8-)

I meant to give you a thumbs up on this post Ret, it's nice to simply agree with you every once in a while.
Even when UWW was down 9-0- it felt to me like UWW was dominating the Pioneers.  The stats in the first half of course show that.  The weird thing was the UWP opening touchdown of the third quarter, putting them within a TD of the lead.  It was a complete reality check as I had spent halftime thinking of the post game celebration.

On the other hand, I listened to the UWW radio broadcast of the game the other day- holy moly you'd think the sky had completely fallen for UWW.  The broadcast crew painted a picture of a game I didn't see, constantly harping on the Kumerow fumble, the Pick Six and a couple of penalties-  calling it the worst half of football UWW played all season.

It's all about perspective I reckon.

This is one of the true wildcards down the stretch. Which teams can not just ensure that they are in, but do so in a relatively healthy manner.

It's also why those top seeds are so important. A guy can get injured in any type of game. But a one seed going up against an overmatched opponent in week one usually involves a pretty healthy margin of victory. It can give you an extra quarter or so to rest some of your starters for the following week. At the very least, they don't tend to be the brutally physical games that other teams are playing in Rd 1. In some sense, the playoffs are a war of attrition.

Bethel has had a few times where a team/conference MVP went down either right before or during the playoffs. It drastically changes the makeup of a team. No doubt every team can think of a few similar examples.

This is where being healthy and/or having quality depth on the two deeps is what separates teams in November & December. The latter is probably one place where UWW still has a good advantage over a number of teams they'd face in the postseason.

Good points.  I know Bethel has had to overcome some tough injuries and it's really unfortunate.

Here's to hoping all players can stay healthy from here on out.

Like you said- all teams have injury issues so I'm not suggesting UWW has more than other teams, I just want to list some of UWW's as a testament to your point about the critical need for depth.
UWW has been without Tyler Huber, a pre-season AA receiver, for the majority of the season.  Jake Kumerow stepped up in his place and was putting up AA numbers.
Jake was hurt on the first series vs UWP.  Two AA level receivers, yet guys continue to step up.
UWW lost three RB's this year- the #1, #2 and then depending on how you rank Dennis Moore, either #3 or #4.  Fortuantely for UWW, the next men up have come up big.

As the Packers showed last night though (finally found a way to get Bears' victory onto this WI board), at some point or position, not all injuries can be overcome.

Bears barely beat the Packers by a touchdown without Rodgers! If he was in they would have been toast.  :-*
