In looking at the stats of the Whitewater game, I should have mentioned Matt Behrendt in my previous comments. In a cold, windy, and overall nasty day, 24-38 for 279 yards and 3 TD's with 0 interceptions (of course)  is a pretty remarkable performance.

Especially with a half a dozen (or so) drops  .......

Very good point. His stat line very easily could have been even better.

For the record...it was a F%$#%$# cold one in Whitewater today. Our fire pit in the parking lot saved lives today I think  ;)

It was even cold in the press box lol!  Game time wind chill was -11. At the start of the 3rd quarter the wind chill had dropped to -15.

Since official game stats (from the archives) only list temperature and not wind chill its difficult to determine cold game temps (as per wind chill) at Perkins Stadium. I researched the issue for over two hours this morning. My calculations say today's game was one of the Top 5 coldest in Perkins Stadium history. My best guess is 3rd coldest.

While I have been a vocal critic of lack of attendance at the Perk during the Playoffs there is no criticism from me tonight. For the slightly over 1000 at the Perk today, I salute you. You are TRUE Warhawk football fans!!!

Yes, I had no problem with Behrendt. Dropped passes were crazy today....very frustrating. Wouldn't mind seeing the O-line tighten up a bit as well.

I've been called out a lot lately for questioning the Hawks, so I'll cut this one short.  :)

02, I'll pick up for you here.  But I will go against the grain regarding Behrendt.
I think he's a bit impatient, overly afraid of interceptions and too willing to take the short route.  Forever we've all heard the phrase "take what the defense gives you".  I'm not a believer of that.  On 3rd and 10, defenses give you 3rd and 7.  Thanks but no thanks.  The trick is to take what the defense doesn't want to give you.
I watched pretty closely today and I saw several opportunities where a UWW receiver broke open on an intermediate or deep route, but Behrendt commonly took the short route.  I'll grant that several of the short routes had decent YAC.  That said, I believe Behrendt's internal clock is a click too quick.  If he'd simply take another count in his head and set his feet, we'd see some serious passing yardage.

When you think about it, UWW runs some 5 receiver sets that include Huber and Kumerow on the outsides and some talented guys on the inside.  UWW completed one deep route today, the Post to Kumerow off the play action late in the game.  Receivers need just another tick in the QB's head to mature their route.  Behrendt's clock needs a little calibration.

That beind said, I go back to an earlier post.  I'm ok with the offense being sluggish and inconsistent.  Make enough plays to win and I'm happy.

You guys really need to chill and have a burger at the Deluxe Billiard Hall in downtown McMinnville.

Bluenote! How can you SAY THAT! You haven't experienced the agony that 02 and Emma have of having to watch UW-W and especially the offense this year! They are averaging a paltry 38.2 points per game and just under 415 ypg this year. It's been excruciating to watch Behrendt rush things and settle for shorter routes as he scuttled his way to 29 TD passes to go along with that one horrid interception. Plus not only has the offense sputtered, it turns the ball over. Seven turnovers this year!  Unacceptable! They get off to notoriously slow starts outscoring teams only 253 to 63 in the first half. Then they finish even slower outscoring their opponents 171-24 in the second half. All this while playing in the indefensible WIAC.

And Bluenote, the struggles continue in the playoffs where, on a day with winds of 20 MPH and a wind chill that got to -15, their margin of victory was only 3 point more than Linfield's! Small wonder why 02 is feeling downright giddy of his prediction that your Cats will beat the Warhawks! IF UW-W even gets that far!

This offense is no where near the teams that piled up 253 yards and 3 scoring drives of under 30 yards at NCC in 2010
Or the team that mauled Mt. Union for 238 yards and 13 points in the Stagg Bowl in 2011

Of course the statistical numbers don't really speak of a dramatic falloff, but that's just an inconvenient technicality.

Tough days in Whitewater, Blue. If UW-W is fortunate enough to survive next week, maybe you will get a chance to see for yourself how far this team has fallen.  ;D

Bleed...
That's what I'm talking about. Your sarcasm taking 02 and Emma "to the woodshed" this morning has already made my day!

The only negatives you'll hear me utter today are halftime lunch in the Perk press box was late yesterday for the 3rd time this season  :-X
and the media member that asked a question yesterday with an expletive deleted during the live on radio press conference  :(

retagent

I like to think my mind is active, but at times, a little slow.

My thinking has been that UWW is not as good as in past years. While that may be true, it now strikes me that it will never play the UWW teams of the past. They will only have to play the teams that it actually faces this year. Are they good enough to beat those teams? That is the question that will be answered in the next week, or more. My answer is that they very well could be, but it is probably closer a call than recently, and those other teams are probably good enough to beat UWW. Any given Saturday. (To paraphrase)
