Behrendt's average completion is still a first down.

So did last year's QB.  :D ;)

I get what you're saying though. Minimizing risks on the offense has been a big part of Whitewater's game plan so far....and it's worked out.

I was surprised by that stat 02. Looking at the last few years you can see a trend.

2013 Yards per Completion:  10.9
2012 Yards per Completion:  11.5
2011 Yards per Completion:  13
2010 Yards per Completion:  13
2009 Yards per Completion:  13.7
I don't think anybody is suggesting Matt isn't performing well or that 29 TD's to 1 Int isn't terrific.  From my perspective, I think it's an interesting question:  Are the benefits of strectching the field more worth the risk of a few more interceptions?   This question is not an attack on Matt in any sense, because I believe his lower average is the result of choice more than ability.

It's just a question.

I guess anyone who answers this question is simply giving their own opinion on the matter.  To me, turnovers are killers.  Sure, there are third and long interceptions where a 45 yard pass intercepted is no big deal.  But others can be very big deals. To me a quarterback who is a good decision-maker and does not throw interceptions is gold.

To no one's surprise, I would like to go on record as being completely in favor of UW-W's formula for success this year:

*Defense: Ranked #1 in the Nation
*QB passes per interception: Ranked #1 in the Nation
*TD passes: Ranked #8 in the Nation
*Turnover Margin: Ranked #3 in the Nation
*Kickoff Return: Ranked #1 in the Nation
*Pun Return: Ranked #21 in the Nation

It's a formula that I like for playoff football.  Obviously, anything can happen on any given Saturday, but I am more comfortable than the experts when it comes to UW-W's chances. Also, I still maintain we will see more downfield passes if we could get a game without the wind blowing 25 MPH!  ;)

If I was a sports writer from Spain covering Spanish soccer and I was awakened by a transatlantic call to pick a division three winner I'd answer, "The winner of the largest enrollment state school conference." Then I'd go back to sleep.

What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

That list is certainly hard to argue with, and I don't.  You know my fear.  One of these Saturday's UWW may run into a team that requires the offense to stand on its own more, without the help of great field position from the D or the Special Teams.  That may not happen.  The formula above definately worked in 2011 Stagg Bowl.
I do think UWW has better receviers this year than they've had since 2010.

I know we are on the same page on this. I think you agree that by and large the formula is a good one. And I agree that it will be important to be able to stretch the field as the playoffs progress.

GO HAWKS!

Maybe you haven't heard, D O.C., the "all campus tryouts for the football team" posters vanished from campuses in the 1950's.  Believe it or not football teams are now a separate universe of recruited athletes. I'll bet you'd find that out it is true west of the rockies as well if you checked into it.

The crazy thing is that in spite of the lack of logic in your overall comment, your hypothetical Spanish sports writer would actually be right in his prediction!  :)

We are all looking forward to a fantastic game between two of the top offenses in the country.

DOC meant cost of attendance...and matriculation rates

Of course winning championships every year usually cures all of that (see: MUC)

Very impressive game by the Hawks today. This defense just might be the best we've ever seen in Whitewater, holding the high-flying Franklin offense out of the endzone. Just unbelievable.

I thought MB had a great game. Glad to see the Hawks stretch the field on a few plays. Kumerow is unreal. That TD catch was one of the better ones I've seen in Whitewater in quite some time.

Looking forward to a great matchup against Linfield next week. Should be a great one....and I'm going to be a wreck this week leading up to the game.

Also, I wouldn't want to be Johnny West tomorrow morning....he took a pounding today.
