I only know what the UPS media release said about her vertical and after watching her play I didn't have any reason to doubt it.  I assume that it was measured with the two or three step start that you often see outside hitters utilize as opposed to a standing jump.
I assume it wasn't measured.  A 30 inch jump would be amazing for a woman.  The highest known measured vertical that I can find is from Deanna Nolan in the WNBA at 34 inches.

I remember the year the WARHAWKS women's team won a National Championship they played Puget Sound during the tournament.  UPS had an outside hitter that was 5'6" with a 40" vertical.

Some female volleyball players can really get up, but she didn't have a 40" vertical.  Giving her a conservative estimate on her reach at maybe 7'3" means she would be able to get 7 inches above the rim on her jump, throwing windmills down with 2 hands.  A quick google search brought up the famed Nebraska women's volleyball record jump at 29".   You haven't watched much intramural college volleyball if you think that the Warhawk football team is so incapable of figuring out the timing needed to play volleyball.

I guess we need to define the competition. Do I think the best athletes on a football team can train for a vball game and be competitive?  Yes.
But I don't think that was the gist of the discussion.
If UWW put its best football player athletes into a vball game w out training they get absolutely destroyed- even against my daughter's team.
They would need a whole lot of intense practice to come even close to the UW women's team.
As I said before I suppose you could find 6 Warhawk football players who had never played volleyball, but that really wasn't the question.  I would bet there are at least 6 Warhawk football players that play intramural volleyball and would be entirely competitive with the women's team and would beat them if they attempted to seriously practice.  This is obvious when you watch Men's volleyball at the olympic or college club levels.

What's w the word twisting?  I didn't suggest the football players couldn't have "ever played vball before". I'd bet big donuts that a high level club girls team wipes the floor w football players that have played some intramural. We need to define how serious these guys are that play intramural. If all 6 are practicing together and playing together over an extended period then yes, I agree with you.
But that's sort of a no brainer isn't it?  I thought the point of the discussion here is that even the best male athletes that don't play / practice volleyball regularly will have little chance vs a good women's volleyball team.

The UW-Whitewater football team has yet to announce its 2014 football schedule however Franklin College released its '14 schedule today indicating that the Warhawks will travel to Franklin on September 13th in Week-two non-conference action. The two teams met in week-two of the 2013 playoffs.

Franklin's first two games are (at) IL-Wesleyan, then home against UWW.

You have to love Franklin. No backing down.

:) That's a fargin trick question.

If Chuck Norris was on one side of the net the volleyball would refuse to pass over it.

There's really no excuse for the way he was treated.  Talk about a rush to judgement. Best of luck to him.  I'm glad to see he's getting another chance.

He has a wrongful termination suit pending. I hope he wins a fair settlement.

Did the Super Bowl remind anyone else of the Stagg Bowl this past year?

- The league's best defense going up against the league's best offense.
- The defensive minded team blows out the offensive juggernaut, to everyone's surprise.
- The league's MVP (just so happens to be a QB in both cases) is out shined by the other team's QB.
- Pick six by both winning teams.
- Bad snap that lead to points (this one is a stretch).
- The offensive powerhouse teams only manage one solid scoring drive.
- A 38 point win verse a 35 point win.

Both games showed that a great defense doesn't compare to a great offense.

Good post 02.
I'd add another similarity- the strength of the opponents played- namely the 49ers- three times.
I was surprised to see how much faster the Seahawks looked.  Their D looked like it played with 12 guys.
I told people I was rooting for Peyton and the Broncos to win but I felt Seattle would prevail as there is too much proof that #1 D beats #1 O.

Yes,

I was saying the same thing. A high powered offense with the "Best Player" at quarterback versus the highly touted Defense. As it is always said "Defense wins Championships, offense sale tickets and are good for T.V. ratings"
