So what the heck happened to La Crosse this weekend?
Sometimes a blowout score isn't indicative of a blowout game.  UWL was blown out.  They mustered only 138 yards of offense and gave up over 500.
That's embarrassing.

I think the WIAC teams need to start showing a little better against non-conf competition to retain it's #1 conference ranking.
UWEC gave up over 300 yards rushing?
River Falls 0-2 again.

Looking at this week's games, I'll be shocked if they come away with more than two wins.

So what do we attribute this too?   Platteville looks strong, but the balance of the conference appears to be either the same or weaker than last year.   Is it the opponents, the coaching, recruiting or something else?   I am really surprised at Oshkosh so far.

Perfect topic, guys!  Now posted on Warhawkfootball.com:

"WIAC "Stock Up/Stock Down" feature. Discussing all 8 teams and whether their stock is now "Higher, lower, or the same" as it was before the first two weekends.

One hint, there are no "Stock Up" ratings for any of the 8 teams. Two weeks is a little early to lower stock, but three of the teams have managed.

I'm not sure the reasons, but I do think the pre-season performances have been disappointing on the whole.  I am guessing there was a lot of hard work this week on WIAC campuses.

Also on the front page, I still have the "Hawk Ratings" of the UW-W performance at Franklin College last weekend.

What the heck happened to La Crosse last weekend ? We got clobbered. After a nice win over Dubuque, the wheels fell off the bandwagon. The biggest problem was that Jr. QB Trent Cummings suffered a rib injury at Dubuque, and was not available for the Tommies. Grayshirt Frosh Colton Peterson got the nod under center, and St. Thomas threw the kitchen sink at him. The big and strong Tommie defense shut down the run game as well. In addition, the Tommie offense pulled out the bag of trick plays and the rout was on. Coach Dettwiler says the team panicked, but we should be past that point. It gets worse. Young Mr. Peterson has since violated a team rule and left the team. As Mr. Cummings is unable to play, the Eagles will play two Freshman QB's against second- ranked UMHB. The poop will probably hit the fan on Saturday, and I can't see an Eagle win. Cummings should be available for the WW game, and I still believe that an improved record is in the cards. Still, this is a tough stretch.

Exactly.  It was a tough situation, with a freshman quarterback making his first start against a tough defense, but we folded and didn't put up much of a fight.  Our o-line is supposed to be better this year but they got manhandled up front and our young qb got off to a shaky start and didn't recover.  Our run defense, which was great against Dubuque, was gashed by the Tommies.  UW-L's current philosophy of speed over size is showing itself to be ineffective.  The biggest guy on our d-line is 255/260 at the most and they got pushed all over the field.  Good luck to the Eagles this week, it's going to be a tough one.

Thanks Hazzbeen and to all that posted best wishes for me. I'm eternally grateful!!!  It sounds like the Warhawks 15 hour bus ride to New Jersey was long but reading the many twitter and facebook posts it sounds like the "business trip" has gone smoothly.  Looking forward to listening to my close and personal friends, Gary Douglas and Arnie "the Riddler" Peck with the radio call of the game on KOOL 106.5. Kickoff will be at 1 PM Central Time.

Go Hawks!!!!!!!!!

Hard to say what the reason is.
I'm not a betting man- I will be surprised if UWP is within 3 touchdowns of NCC though. For the sake of the conference I hope they win, but I just don't think they have the line of scrimmage strength and defensive toughness to play w NCC.
Reading the UWL reports below gives no reason for hope. I mean come on man, the UWL D can't step up when the offense struggles?  UMHB might find the going a little tougher due to UWL's embarrassment last week, but probably not too much. Again I hope I'm wrong.

It looks like the MIAC is pushing for #1 conference standings.

Screaming Eagles: I am similarly dubious regarding the smaller, quicker defensive line strategy. It seems to be the fashion in some circles these days, and may work against spread offenses, but how does it stop teams with a big OL on 3rd and 2 ? Last year, even Platteville abandoned the pass and ran it down our throats. Coach Dettwiler assures me it can work, but I am not persuaded. Let's hope for a good showing tomorrow.

This whole "Build a Website from Scratch" project is really a learning experience!

Anyway, two new postings on warhawkfootball.com:

Preview and prediction of UW-W at TCNJ

The first 2014 Warhawkfootball.com podcast!

I am definitely an amateur at both editing and presentation, but the podcasts will get better.  And if I can get another Warhawk fan to join me, it will be more interesting for sure!

Without a doubt, the highlights are a "Thank You" to Tom Pattison and the Warhawk Fight Song.  Pattison, at least YOU'd better listen to it. I think I might have said "I love you" or something like that.  Out Loud. To another guy.  On the internet.  Wow, I'd better go write something about football or somethin...  :D

It worked for the Johnnies in the 2003 Stagg Bowl, and all season, for that matter.

I'm hoping this is referring to execution and not effort. I think it was after the UW-W game last year that Coach Dettwiler lit into his team pretty good (and publicly) about effort.  They may or may not hang in there tomorrow, but I don't think there will be any question about effort. He will have them ready.
